    Creative ideas wanted!

If they are former allies, they would have a good idea of the party's capabilities. A feyslaughter weapon (which is good loot for the defender) will stop the eladrin's teleports. A web spell (or other zone/area spell affecting movement) will take care of the rest. And, with most parties, as long...

So ... my DM doesn't let us buy items ... ever ... what do I do?

I'm fine with a DM that says that s/he won't allow certain item/feat combos. But, as with all house rules, state it up-front: don't let a player invest in the feats and then just leave them hanging for the item. A DM that lets players waste feats in this manner is not smart. Just mean.

Weapon damage dice on pregen characters / weapon chart wrong?

Wouldn't this be listed among racial traits?

    Advantages / Disadvantages

I was wondering about this, and I'm not so good at the maths, so I had a spreadsheet count out the permutations, and these are the results: the average result of selecting the best result out of 2d20 is 13.83. Compared to 10.5, that's an improvement of +3.33. The odds of rolling a 20 is 9.75%...

So ... my DM doesn't let us buy items ... ever ... what do I do?

As other posters note, this is true. Unlike S'mon, in fourth edition, I sympathize with your position. If you're into character building at all, you can't ignore items as a resource. In this position, you can't ignore that certain items are essential to a particular character build. Frost...

Inherent bonuses: winners & losers, pros & cons

After being a fan of inherent bonuses for a very long time, I'vecome around to just preferring giving the party lots of residuum and letting them sort it out.

    D&D 4E 4e Character Log: Need Feedback

    XP is disabled, but this.

    D&D 4E 4e Character Log: Need Feedback

If it's just the 20 magic arrows that are an issue, I'd put that info on *one* character sheet, no matter who uses them, and make tracking them that player's responsability.

    D&D 4E 4e Character Log: Need Feedback

I would add each player's finances and party finances. Also, instead of dots, use the initials of the actual powers or item powers used. Many DMs feel that this is the kind of stuff character sheets are for, but each gaming group is different.

    D&D 4E 4e Character Log: Need Feedback

I'm confused by the fact that you're tracking their dailies and death saves but not their encounter powers. Also, I don't like tracking ammo, but I imagine some do.

How do you handle food and drink?

What Siberys said about food and water. I'd rather assess them a "lifestyle cost" that goes along with their purported lifestyle: this covers all day-to-day costs involving shelter, entertainment, food, mundane ammunition, the needs of a mount, and gives other benefits for those who choose to...

4th edition DM battle sheet idea

This is what I use. Rings for frequent straightforward conditions (marked, cold vulnerability in frostcheese parties, psychic lock if that's a common effect), and a whiteboard for anything more complicated.

    Warden AC Gimped Defender ?

My mistake: I meant resilient focus. Sorry about confusing things further.

4th edition DM battle sheet idea

While this idea has some merit, and I hate to poop on it, it has three shortcomings (according to me). 1) it has no easy way to track duration of the effects - at paragon and epic, characters (and monsters) inflict a LOT of conditions, and there has to be a way to easily figure out when they...

    Power retraining question

I skimmed the portion of the PHB that discusses this. I might have missed it, but I didn't see any language restricting which class' powers could be retrained. Therefore, I think you technically can do what you propose, but I also think most DMs will oppose this, since you are trading a...

Who makes the Coolest Evil Noble Family?

I thought tieflings would be too obvious as well, although that would give room to play on that very issue ("we're always being accused of evil, when will this end?"). Eladrin would work well, given the long lifespans and ancient heritage, but I don't see elves and half-elves in the same way...

    Power retraining question

While this makes a lot of sense, I'd like to see a page source for this, since I don't remember the restriction in the text.

    Power retraining question

You're probably going to have to state your question a fourth or fifth time, but my inclination is that while you might squeak by on a hyper-technical reading of the rules, no sane DM is going to allow this unless you are paragon multiclassing, which might garner enough pity that a DM might...

    Power retraining question

Are you referring to the PHB Novice, Adept, and Acolyte Power feats? The ones that say "You can swap one X power you know for one X power of the same level or lower from the class you multiclassed into." Yes, those can be retrained to swap higher level powers. The retraining removes the old...

Critical Hits with Power Strike and Corroboration

If you're trying to use customer service as a source, you might as well use first edition initiative rules as a source. Seriously, put these in front of the DM: http://knights-n-knaves.com/dmprata/ADDICT.pdf When s/he throws up his or her arms in frustration, explain that RPGs rules are long...
