    Witchlighter Theme: Need help balancing.

Lowering the hit by one might not be enough to bring it in line with other themes. You could spend a minor action to gain +1 to your next attack. I think AA's suggestion of making it a buff or debuff, or inflicting a small amount of damage on a miss is more interesting. Making the damage bonus...

    Witchlighter Theme: Need help balancing.

They aren't necessarily TOO high. They're just more than what other themes give you. As I said, if you want to run a high-power campaign, feel free. Just be aware that characters who don't select this theme will be comparatively less powerful. You answered your own question regarding the...

    Witchlighter Theme: Need help balancing.

For what it's worth, I agree with AA that the theme is probably more powerful than it should be. The power, the damage bonus, and the bonus to hit are all greater than anything of comparable level. While some of these are conditional, this is much less of a problem in a campaign focused on...

    A Thought on Turn-Based Movement

Oh, I didn't take it that way at all. It's nice of you to post as much though, and I hope I didn't come across as overly critical (that's what I was trying to say when I said I didn't want to push my contestation too far...). In any case, props to you for respectful internet dialogue. I agree...

    A Thought on Turn-Based Movement

I guess I would omit the "damn" from that sentence, but I respect your position as a sensible one. I've found it useful to have a houserule that says, more or less, that any ruling, until formally incorporated into the houserules, is a one-time ruling, and cannot be used again by players. I'm...

    A Thought on Turn-Based Movement

I used to feel that way as well. I thought the game balance in 4e had been worked out by the designers so that it was perfect, and changes here might have dooming ramifications elsewhere. Then I realized it was not. The game designers miss tons of stuff, and the game is not intrinsically...

New RPG that uses a deck of cards

I like how the decision mechanic is also the HP mechanic, but I don't understand how that works when you "refresh" your suit after losing all the cards.

New RPG that uses a deck of cards

The bulk of the rules appear to be here: http://i.imgur.com/cy0CjgQ.jpg More details on the sidebar in this subreddit: http://www.reddit.com/r/shadowside The simplicity is appealing, but I I'm wonder if these kinds of systems only really work with a special group of people. I'm not sure 4 or 5...

    A Thought on Turn-Based Movement

This is just a truism. http://www.gagbay.com/images/2012/09/ron_swanson_award_winner-144437.jpg More seriously, this is true. Those actions are best used within the round structure. But there are times in which it is opportune to use them outside that structure. Your OP illustrates perfectly a...

    A Thought on Turn-Based Movement

Posting to emphasize MoogleEmpMog and shidaku's points. You can ready actions before combat begins. If the readied actions conflict (e.g. I throw my spear at the first creature I see behind the door and I get out of the way if there's an enemy on the other side of the door), then you move those...

D&D 4E Adding powers to elites and solos (4E)

I don't think your ideas are particularly overpowered. Have at those players. As a player in a high paragon game, I'm a fan of monsters that have two turns per round, and an immediate action power that it can use between each of its turns.

    D&D 5E (2014) Shift Feat: Usefulness?

Exra squares of shifting movement sounds pretty powerful to me. Maybe add a level requirement if that's going to be a feat. I think they stuck this among feats because they wanted to make a slim core ruleset, and the shift concept starts making things more fiddly. They maybe should have just...

    D&D 5E (2014) Shift Feat: Usefulness?

I share your lack of enthusiasm for the feat. It has some marginal (albeit non-trivial) utility, but I would probably rarely select it.

D&D 4E VTT / Maptools: D&D 4E Dark Sun using Maptools, my experiences and tips for new users.

"You must spread xp around..." Thanks for posting these kinds of updates, complete with screenshots. I take it you don't use maptools to track conditions and effects much? Or is it just a lack of statuses that I'm noting?

Thanks, those macros look pretty compelling. I thought there was some easy way to "erase" a portion of a line-of-sight blocking line.

    Nemesis Destiny's Houserules Thread

You might want to add some houserules regarding warforged, unless you feel that they ought to be able to be action-point batteries. They have a racial feature that makes it impossible for them to fail a death save, so they would feel free to trade them for APs at any point.

    Sheets for 20th Level Character

My 19th level Shaman's character sheet, without counting rituals or item cards, is 6 pages long - 3 pages of basic character sheet (front, items, and features/feats) and 3 pages of power cards. In addition, she also has 3 pages of item cards, a moderately generous amount, if you ask me, and 4...

D&D 4E VTT / Maptools: D&D 4E Dark Sun using Maptools, my experiences and tips for new users.

This thread is fantastic. I've always thought of using maptools in a face to face game, but I hadn't actually read a detailed "report" about it. Thanks for posting all this detail. I might have missed something, but how did you "open" the window (or door) to allow line of sight? Is there a way...

    D&D 5E (2014) Human racial abilty modifiers

This. Although the fact that they went back to having exploration and social parts of the game competing with combat parts is pretty close.
