I think TSR was right to publish so much material

I don't think that's even close to true. --Erik

I certainly wasn't expecting you to apologize for your viewpoint. I appreciate the link and the clarification. --Erik

I think TSR was right to publish so much material

Well, that's my guess too. Ryan's company was Organized Play (note the caps), and John didn't capitalize the words in his post, suggesting maybe he was talking about the concept of organized play in general. Which is why I asked. :) --Erik

I think TSR was right to publish so much material

I'm operating off of ten-year-old memories here, but all of the books I mentioned earlier in the thread were still in their production cases, so none of them had been returned from retailers. I think it wasn't just one book. My impression is that retailers returned tons and tons of books (many...

I think TSR was right to publish so much material

Your lousy view of the OGL is of course a matter of public record here on EN World, but I'm curious what you mean by Ryan Dancey being wrong about organized play. Could you be a bit more specific? --Erik

I think TSR was right to publish so much material

It's interesting that you single out the Gothic Earth Gazetteer. In my first year on the staff of the RPGA (1999), we put together prize support boxes filled with unsellable "dead" product from the later part of the period dicussed in this thread. There were lots of those slim Al Qadim boxed...

I think TSR was right to publish so much material

Since we are extolling the virtues of 2e art, let us not overlook those gorgeous blue clip art offerings from the genius of JEM. Those things were the pinncale of D&D art. Say what you will about Brom or Larry Elmore. My money is in JEMs! --Erik

I think TSR was right to publish so much material

Ooh, ooh! Also Puppets, Childsplay, and Gargoyles. I heard they were updating all three of those to 4th edition, so the proof is in the pudding. Classics to endure the ages! --Erik

    The Pinnacle of your Collection

My favorite item in my collection is a contributor copy of Expedition to the Ruins of Greyhawk (which I co-wrote) signed by Gary Gygax, who wrote: "Dear Erik... a Doppelganger?" Which was awesome. --Erik

WotC is *NOT* Evil: THE FINALE

Wait.... what? I'm not mad at WotC, and I'm certainly not mad about their rules for using their copyright images online. I don't even know what they are. --Erik

Pathfinder 1E Paizo news/announcements hard to find?

A lot of news comes out at Gen Con, including hints of stuff that is barely even on the drawing board. We've announced all of our products through June 2011. The Tian Xia stuff will be coming some time after that, so there's not really a lot of concrete info to offer beyond "we're doing...

    Ravenloft Boardgame?

Yeah, I think the clear guys are mostly ghosts and stuff. I seem to remember that the flaming skeleton was clear, but we played in a bar, and you know.... I'd love to do a Pathfinder board game some day. We've certainly discussed the possibility, but we'd have to make it awesome indeed be in...

    Ravenloft Boardgame?

    1) Absolutely not. Purists will probably be happy pretending that this is just a spooky haunted castle rather than an attempt to recreate the classic adventure. It's very combat-focused, with all of the roleplaying elements (that I saw) involving smack-talk between rounds. That said, it's also a...

    Ravenloft Boardgame?

I played this with some of the WotC guys at a bar at Gen Con, and I had an absolute BLAST. I thought this was really, really, really fun, and that's coming from someone who is by no means a fan of 4th edition. I broke it down like this: D&D + Dungeon! + Betrayal at House on the Hill + 42...

    Ultimate Faith & Ultimate Social

We're currently not imagining a future that includes products like "Ultimate [Ice Cream] Social" or "Ultimate Faith." Ultimate Magic will contain a ton of stuff for divine spellcasters, and Ultimate Combat will have lots of material for rogues, bards, and other skill monkey characters. We're...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder and the ENnies

Sure! After taking the stage a half-dozen or so times to accept various awards, I opened my final acceptance speech by saying "this is the last time you'll see me up here," and then added a coy "this year" as an aside. Ha ha ha. I mean: "BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!" :) --Erik
