WotC Older D&D Books on DMs Guild Now Have A Disclaimer

Well thanks for upgrading my post to front page news 🙈 At least Wizards of the Coast chose a middle of the road statement that everyone will be satisfied with.

WotC Older D&D Books on DMs Guild Now Have A Disclaimer

If you go to any of the older WotC products on the Dungeon Master's Guild, they now have a new disclaimer very similar to that currently found at the start of Looney Tunes cartoons. We recognize that some of the legacy content available on this website, does not reflect the values of the...

D&D General D&D Settings with No Problematic Areas?

I know it's easier to wrestle with strawmen, but this isn't really responsive at all to people's critiques of the settings. For example, even from "woke" authors I've never seen them bring up the dragonmarks of Eberron as an issue. Do better.

D&D General D&D Settings with No Problematic Areas?

While I'm a huge fan of Dark Sun & Eberron, I don't believe they'd be good core settings. What makes them work well is they subvert the core assumptions of D&D - if they're no longer subversions it just doesn't work as well. I'd rather see something like 4e's Points of Light get promoted, where...

AD&D 1E About the Asian contributors to Oriental Adventures, or Who even were these guys?

At this point all I can say is you and I have fundamentally incompatible views on what an RPG sourcebook should provide - if I'm paying for a sourcebook I want it to provide depth and show care for its work, not something sloppily put together made up of half baked ideas. You can do all of that...

AD&D 1E About the Asian contributors to Oriental Adventures, or Who even were these guys?

Because today we expect good writing? Having a depth of understanding of a culture and its myths dramatically improves the depth of writing, because you can add the nuances a shallow understanding would miss. Furthermore, we still today see issues where non-western sourcebooks and adventures are...

D&D General D&D Settings with No Problematic Areas?

Not to mention WotC fully owns the mtg settings, so they can cut out authors who receive royalties from those settings still.

D&D General D&D Settings with No Problematic Areas?

@Remathilis got the basics down. In general the tone has tended to glorify the colonialist looting of Xen'drik a bit too unconditionally. Furthermore, the writers went too far on keeping it "mysterious" to the point that it leaves out the opportunity to deepen the cultures of the Drow. Keith...

D&D General D&D Settings with No Problematic Areas?

If you read the critiques levied at FR, many of them are rooted in that the other regions are written from an "outsider looking in" perspective, unlike the Sword Coast which is written with the assumption of the familiar. That perspective leads to not just harmful stereotypes but frankly bad...

    D&D 5E (2014) Keith Baker: Exploring Eberron

For the record Baator also fits, same letter count & ending with r, plus it was part of the (heavily disliked) 4e cosmology rework - not to mention it fits alphabetically there.

    D&D 5E (2014) Keith Baker: Exploring Eberron

For the record the redacted mystery section that starts on 147 was a late add to the book - POD wants submissions in multiples of 4, and they were 2 pages short, so Keith whipped up something to fill two pages after the rest of the book was done.

    D&D 5E (2014) Orion Black No Longer a D&D Designer [UPDATED!]

Small industry with little to no real competition enables nepotistic corporate structures more than usual - why try to hire for merit when you'll still be top dog hiring your friends? As for why this is coming out now, it's clear a lot of people feel this is a time of social upheaval and think...

Keith popped on the discord to confirm that the 9 pages on Kech Dhakaan is 9 pages on new and existing Dhakaani Kechs.
