D&D 5E (2014) How should 5th edition introduce the remaining classic settings?

Yeah doing a baseline "Here are the racial traits for our signature races and mechanics" goes a long way to unifying the community. To continue the Dark Sun example, if you know the rules for defiling will be consistent you can run different adventures from different authors that play with the...

D&D 5E (2014) How should 5th edition introduce the remaining classic settings?

Opening stuff up to dmsguild is huge - it means people can write conversions of old adventures in a setting without WOTC having to put their tiny team on it. Sure, an individual DM can do the work, but the success of the dmsguild proves plenty would rather pay for someone else to.

    D&D 5E (2014) Keith Baker: Exploring Eberron

Nothing firm, but it sounds like they're going to make it this month barring catastrophe. Almost all the book is into editing and layout, which means they're close to doing proofs. Guessing it's going to be the end of the month though rather than next week.

Volo's Guide had 5e gnoll content but it was basically "bloodthirsty marauders with no depth"

    D&D 5E (2014) Keith Baker: Exploring Eberron

The 4e Dragon article for playable gnolls was written by Keith Baker. It's one of his few non-Eberron d&d publications.

    D&D 5E (2014) Keith Baker: Exploring Eberron

For what it's worth, Keith's vision of airships is closer to WW1 use of airplanes, which is to say not terribly involved and mostly used for reconnaissance. What's more relevant to air power is flying cavalry, which due to the cost of raising the mounts has significantly different dynamics.

    D&D 5E (2014) Keith Baker: Exploring Eberron

Since this got rezzed I should probably update the OP to indicate that all signs are pointing to the book coming out in March. Also, here's what I wrote in the Eberronicon The point being, the house's reliance on family lines limit their ability to be true monopolies. Furthermore, the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Eberron Campaign thread

Yeah Sharn has a lot of unique features that W: DH, which wasn't written to be set in Sharn, doesn't utilize. Just because they're both big cities doesn't mean it's a good idea to convert adventures from one to the other. There's plenty of other cities in the setting that let you convert for way...

    Survivor Aberrations: BEHOLD THE WINNER!

Aboleth 8 Beholder 22 Gibbering Mouther 3 Mind Flayer 20 Y'all aren't seriously trying to sink the creatures before time, right? Also, Beholders are just floating sacks and not particularly interesting personality wise. At least Mind Flayers have a society.

    D&D 5E (2014) On meaningless restrictions

Re: The dominant argument. I'm inclined to agree with the position that 5e practically doesn't have class skill proficiencies, and the existing ones mostly just guide players into the class archetypes. Now, for weapon proficiencies, as someone who's played a weapon cleric I disagree that they...

D&D 5E (2014) Exploring Eberron delayed until March

Exploring Eberron, 2/6/20 For those of you not familiar, Exploring Eberron is an Eberron lore supplement by Keith Baker [the original designer of Eberron], that is set to be published on the dmsguild in both pdf and Print on Demand formats. To summarize, ExE is a "labor of love" for Keith...

    D&D 4E Am I crazy? I've just gotten a hankering to play 4e again...

At the same time, the stated reason for the PHB2 delays of "These guys have a troubled history and needed more time for hashing out" really was and is true for gnomes and half-orcs. In fact, one of my biggest issues with 5e is they got rid of the interesting "fey gnome" angle and went back to...

D&D 5E (2014) Fallen Celestials and (the lack of) Ascended Fiends

Eberron's Kalashtar are actually an example of ascended fiends. Per 3.5, Quori are Outsider (evil) and use all the same rules for possession classic fiends do. 5e tried to make Quori aberrations, but this was a change in editing Keith Baker considers a mistake. So, starting with the premise that...
