Races and Classes Art Gallery at Wizards

I like the art displayed here; the humans, the elves, the halflings and the dragonborn, they all look good. The dwarves, though, take the cake; the consistent look they got in 3e was a great step ahead from the earlier editions, but I think the 4e version surpasses that. And it's a funny thing...

D&D 4E So, which class will end up being the -Zilla of 4e?

The correct answer, of course, is "Absolutely impossible to say at this point".

    No more cone shaped powers?

The whole mess could be easily avoided if 4e went hexgrid. And I'm sure they could sell a ton of battlemats, as well...

    D&D 4E Non-Euclidean Geometry in 4E?

Wouldn't staggered squares (with every other row displaced one-half square) fix this pretty well? They are essentially equal to a hex map, but a lot of people find them easier to draw buildings etc. on.

    Ice Archon

Whoops, that's what happens when you start reading the thread from the end... :heh:

    WoW is becoming DDM

I don't disagree that Warcraft started off as a rip-off on Warhammer, via D&D and Dune, but by now I think it's evolved into a thing of its own. :)

    Ice Archon

But they are not flames. They are solid, can be touched without suffering burns (although it seems they're uncomfortably hot), and so on. They are creatures of elemental fire, not fire itself (which is, after all, non-living and non-sentient). Sufficient energy will first break up the...

    Ice Archon

I don't think they've said that, exactly; just that they're ditching creatures who seem to exist purely because of symmetry (particularly alignment symmetry) reasons. Having four sorts of elementals, and likely four sorts of archons made from those elementals, is IMO compatible with this aim.

Have These Basic Questions been answered yet?

Our group uses max HP for the first level, then roll two dice and pick higher for the HPs at every level afterwards. You're unlikely to get lousy HP, but you're not guaranteed high HPs, either.

Paladin should kill the Warlord and take his stuff!

I get the feeling a lot of the venom directed at warlord class is because a lot of gamers seem to detest anyone telling them what to do... even if that "telling them what to do" is restricted to tactical hints and coordination in combat, which gives you bonuses. Can't really fathom it, but...

If the devils are how monsters will be....I am so happy

From everything we've been told, no.

    Devils, the new paradigm?

At a guess, the rebellion has made devils rebellious. Angels are obedient servants of their deity, whereas devils serve reluctantly, and need to be bound into a hierarchy of obedience, intimidation and punishment.

    What's with the sexy githyanki?

I think she's pretty sexy, for a gaunt, knobby-jointed, mottled, nearly noseless humanoid. :)

DMG & MM: Players Stay Out?

I think that time and experience has shown that trying to keep rules hidden from the players is not only futile, it's a bad idea. It undermines the trust at the table, limits the players needlessly, and adds nothing to the "sense of wonder".

    On the Importance of Mortality

To repeat myself in another thread, I think that the threat of death is valuable for the game, but actual character death usually isn't.

    D&D 4E Elementals and 4E: All Evil?

I think that most elemental beings will be unaligned, and frequently uncaring about mortal races. Fire Archons seem like they might be Evil, but I wonder about the rest of the archons. Efreeti are likely Evil as well, considering that they create more FA:s and enslave others.

    D&D 4E Mouseferatu weighs in on 4e

Excellent! I'm a major gnoll fan myself, so this is a neat development! :)

    D&D 4E First Impressions of 4E / Predictions on 5E

IIRC, the demon in question was marilith. And, honestly, the ability made zero sense for tactical purposes. Any party which will find the marilith's zombie minions a credible threat would be annihilated in a fight with her; and if they can stand up to the demoness, they'll cut through the...

    Halflings: An Identity Crisis

The way halflings are generally used and played in D&D - as a race producing lots of adventurous rogues - is traditional, but doesn't match Tolkien's hobbits. Thus, 3e and 4e keep the traditional role - small, sneaky rogues who go on adventures - and adapt halfings to fit this, instead of...
