    Wyvern Concept Design

I like that. If it's the 4e wyvern, I'm quite happy; the 3.* one was one of the failures of the MM illustrations.

    Mike Mearls comments on design

If you learn and use Fourier transformations, does that imply that you've been taught by Fourier Adepts?

D&D 4E Call a kender a kender? What should 4E "halflings" be called?

Because, if you take the obnoxious out of a kender, you're left with a halfling. So calling them "kender" would be trying to disguise them. :D

Woot -- quality new race flavor!

The thing with tieflings is that, outside a setting with constant contact between more-or-less normal people and the various fiends (as in Planescape, where they originate), they should be very rare. This is a bit problematic if you wish to have numerous tiefling characters in your game, either...

D&D 4E Call a kender a kender? What should 4E "halflings" be called?

Halflings, thank you. The name "kender" refers to a very specific, congenitally cleptomanic, stupidly fearless and generally horribly annoying variant of a halfling native to Krynn (where they mostly stay, thank all powers).

A crying farm girl to her shocked parents: "I didn't know! He was so handsome and nice; how could I have known!"

Tiamat and Bahamut--Why Use Real World Mythology?

Tiamat and Bahamut are iconic D&D deities/monsters, dating back to 1e. I think they're some of the best implied setting stuff the game has had, and I for one would be sorry to see them gone. As for your complaint that they aren't like their mythological namesakes, I think that's a moot point...

Woot -- quality new race flavor!

That looks very nice, overall; I really like the ancient DB / Tiefling connection, and the roots of the dwarf-giant animosity.

What should WOTC do about Golden Wyvern Adept?

If the 4e designers at WotC put one-tenth as much effort in building a good game as we gamers spend in talking about Golden Wyvern, wizard implements, demon/devil changes or whatever, I have absolutely no worries about the game. :)

    Are Gognards killing D&D?

In reply to the question in the thread subject: As much as it pains me to say this, no, they aren't.

    D&D 4E D&D 4e = Traveller: The New Era?

True, true; that's why I spoke of the implied setting from which the Third Imperium grew. :)

    New troglodytes

Hmm, looks a bit like an armadillo or one of those armored dinosaurs, doesn't it? Works for me; troglodytes haven't exactly been prominent monsters in most settings and adventures that I know of.

    Remember when ...

The hate back then, like now, is mostly concentrated on the internet. IIRC, there was a lot of griping and complaining on the Usenet. Now, with Usenet being reduced to a shambling corpse of its former horror glory, the hate resides on forums.

    D&D 4E D&D 4e = Traveller: The New Era?

As far as I can tell, TNE's rules are very solid; the issue many Traveller fans had with it was the demolition of the Imperium (in a way which wasn't plausible in either the real world or in the Third Imperium setting). That said, I think the game got unfairly maligned, partly because a...

    Give me choices!

Having played White Wolf games, which have from the start had extensive rules for social interaction, I cannot agree, in any way whatsoever, that such rules limit or eliminate role-playing. In my experience, it's exactly the other way around: the rules support and encourage interaction: if you...

    D&D 4E Flying in 4e

I'd like it if, to fly, you needed either a flying mount (with all the problems that implies); had to turn yourself into a flying thing; or needed a flight device such as a broomstick, carpet or something similar. "Superheroic" flight, with no wings or mounts or items I'd be happy to get rid...

WoTC_krg posts on game design theory

Yeah. Point-buy systems lend themselves to munchkinism and min-maxing on levels almost never seen in D&D; they're wonderfully flexible, but that flexibility can be used for bad ends, creating hyper-focused psychotic killbots and whatnot that spoil the game for other players.

D&D 4E Post here if you ARE going to 4E!

Add me in as another gamer who's very likely, almost certainly, going for 4e.

And what about the name Dungeons & Dragons

Not iconic enough. I mean, there are dungeons and dragons in WoW, and in several animes and mangas, and in all other sorts of badwrongfun sources! The purity of our hobby means we must play only Flumphs & Fastnesses. Anything else is the betrayal of our integrity to the base hordes of people...

    The Mortal God

"If you give it stats, someone will try to kill it (and take its stuff)." That said, I'd rather have deities with stats. This way, if I want statless deities, who function entirely behind the scenes or as plot devices, I can ditch the stats without problem.
