    D&D 4E What's Wrong With 4e Simply Put

What's wrong with 4e is that people seem to be taking what they like or dislike in 3.* and earlier editions as obvious universals, and demanding that a game aimed for a wide audience, specifically including new gamers - should cater to their personal preferences in terms of both crunch and fluff.

Infernal pacts - appropriate for player characters?

Could we give this argument a rest? It has an unpleasant undertone that 4e is pandering for the kids, and that anyone playing a tiefling, a warlock, or in fact anything beyond a shining knight of purity and justice is shallow and immature. Besides, the idea that darker themes such as people who...

    D&D 4E Rant on the 4E "Presentation"

D&D is a reasonably cheap hobby, all things considered.

    D&D 4E 4E Cosmology & Yougoloths

I think the best solution would be to leave this open for the DMs' interpretation. (Personally, I'd lean towards alien powers from ancient eras when the universe was still raw and ill-formed.)

    Warlord or Soldier?

Warlord wins. Go warlord go! It's interesting; people keep complaining loudly about how bad Warlord and other WotC names are, but when put to test, those names tend to win. It's almost as if the designers at Wizards might have actually thought about this, considering the alternatives and maybe...

    soldier instead of warlord

But a warrior is not a martial leader. Like fighter, it's someone who fights, not someone who leads and coordinates a fight. Warlord's better for that, I think.

H2 name changed to 'Thunderspire Labyrinth'

    Thunderspire sounds better, hands down.

    So...this is the new Ettercap?:(

Exactly my opinion, as well! As for the actual miniatures... that is a pretty sorry, ugly bunch, overall. :( The fire elemental, the elf conjurer and the nightmare look good; the sphinx and the werewolf are promising, too. The rest? Very bleh, with some downright ugly sculpts (or lousy paint...

    31 Flavors of Warlock

What, exactly, is wrong with "pact"? I'm starting to think that people (not you, but people in general) are inventing outrage for outrage's sake.

    Exotic zombies at WotC

The gravehound zombie sounds particularly nice, with its undead deathgrip. (Reminds me of the werewolf boasting in Prince Caspian). Also, I'm betting that you can easily adapt it for other four-legged animal zombies.

    soldier instead of warlord

Agreed. It's hardly perfect, but it's better than any of the suggestions people come up with. (In fact, didn't we have a poll about this, with Warlord getting less than 50% of votes, yet beating every other alternative?)

Those posters were pure brilliance. :)

    Eladrin, warlords, and unnecessary D&Disms

Those are some very specific, not-at-all, in no way, generic terms. (Or are you making a joke? I'm having a hard time telling sometimes. :) )

    A mystery race ?

I see a full orc as a possibility, especially if WotC is redoing them a bit. (Such as dropping the light sensitivity; the 3.* orcs aren't Tolkien's orcs. Goblins for Snaga-hai and hobgoblins for Uruk-hai are a much better match.) Goliaths are another possibility; I don't know too much about...

A detailed town in the DMG: your preference?

The 2nd edition DMG, which was lousy. It had neither the charm and information density (all those tables and rules!) of 1e DMG, nor the clarity and information density of 3.*e DMG. As for the example town, I'm for it; as others have said, it's going to be helpful for the new DMs (especially if...

"...the ancient empire of the tieflings..." and Sword & Sorcery gaming

That's a flaw of English language, not of the game. Switch to Finnish, people! ;)

    Eladrin, warlords, and unnecessary D&Disms

No, it won't; and if it is, it's much less than "faerie" or "fey" or whatever. I'm betting that the people having most trouble with it are the older gamers. Agreed. Warlord, although not perfect, is probably the best consensus choice: it implies someone who wages war and leads. (And the people...

D&D 4E What 4E class do you most want to try out?

It's a bit early to say, but I'm thinking of Fighter. Warlord and Wizard are probably my second and third choice.

Dungeoncraft article: Shifters in MM, deities mentioned

That is very nice piece of art, I agree. My problem (well, more of a mild, occasional annoyance) with Mialee wasn't that she was not that attractive; it was that everyone kept drawing her in a different way, and nearly always badly.

    Zombies! New Dungeoncraft article up

Cool; looks like I might actually use zombies in 4e! In the previous editions, they've been more or less useless against any party featuring a cleric after the first couple of levels, and even then they were pretty boring. (Incidentally, I'm hoping that you can crit vampires, as well; a stake to...
