Here's to the extinction of the AOO

Easier, yes, but with AoOs, you *can* pass there... just not without a risk. Adds an element of tactical consideration, and doesn't in my experience slow the game down significantly.

Here's to the extinction of the AOO

I've never quite understood the hatred of AoOs. Grappling slowing the game down, I can understand; it doesn't come up that often, so people often don't learn (or don't bother learning, as it may) the rules by heart. Anyway, I really hope some form of AoO-like mechanic remains, to keep people...

DMG to include a "starter town".

It's iconic for everyone who's played the Basic D&D boxed sets, I'm sure. Personally, I've never played any of the adventures where KotB, Hommlet or Saltmarsh come from, so they have zero iconic potential for me. :)

The missing Role: speculation on Healing rules

That sounds pretty good, and if clerics retain their healing powers (as I think they will, though not necessarily to the same extent as in previous editions), it would help keep the classes separate.

What would you like to see brought back from older editions?

It's also weird that it's always about a STR penalty or limit to women, yet nobody for it seems to want a similar CON penalty or limit for men (c'mon, women live longer in general and, IIRC, have higher pain tresholds).

Do you like Warforged in your Forgotten Realms?

I like warforged, and think they are one of the most interesting races WotC has come up with; however, I don't think they fit FR except, possibly, as near-unique creations of weird magicians or something found "deactivated" in the ruins of some Netherese or Raumathari laboratory. So, I voted...

    Design & Development: The Warlock

It's a good thing that 4e is going to have warlocks who draw their power from sources other than pacts with infernal powers, isn't it?

    Design & Development: The Warlock

    It's Just Because. :)

Game Day mini = Spined Devil

Maybe they are, but it's just named "Spot", because it's used for on-the-spot, heat of the moment perception checks, and "Search" is the one you use for longer, more careful and meticulous study? :)

Game Day mini = Spined Devil

This looks promising; the stat block is considerably simpler and clearer. Now I want to see what the big, complex beastiers (like dragons, or high-end demons and devils) look like!

    Design & Development: The Warlock

Actually, I'm wondering if the (possibly fey-powered) feral warlocks are a stand-in for druids...

    WotC does listen

Oh, they still listen to you. But whether or not they are going to do things your way, that's a whole another thing. ;) Or, to put it another way... game design is not democracy. It's utter foolishness to not listen to your customers; but it's equally foolish, I think, to let your design be...

FR last blog entry of Perkins

I think you forgot to use the word "videogame" there, and to call everyone who isn't all doom-and-gloom about 4e impressionable sheep, or whatever the latest buzzword is. I'm not crazy about all the implied changes to 4th edition FR, but I would never, ever, in a million years, say based on them...

    Untrained/trained Skills....Noooo!

AFAICT, it removes the choice that players could be making, even if they don't. In my play experience, people are always maximizing the most relevant skills (for a wizard, for example, Spellcraft, Knowledge: Arcana and Concentration in this order), and not really caring about other skills...

Who Do You Want Illustrating 4th Ed.?

Less wizards, elves and dragons, as well. :) Add me as another player who doesn't care if the armor and weapons in D&D are, strictly speaking, unrealistic to the fans of Middle Ages; I want them look a) cool and b) verisimilitudious; that is, like something we can imagine people actually using...

So, I bet that the d12 is getting kicked to the curb...

Alternity dropped d10, actually; IIRC, it didn't fit in the probability pattern they wanted for the dice system.

    Per-Encounter/Per-Day Design and Gameplay Restrictions

Yes. I think there are very few people, even among those who like D&D, who like everything about it; furthermore, I think that most of the people liking D&D in the whole are also liking parts of it which Raven Crowking may not like, and disliking parts he likes. In other words, although his...

    Per-Encounter/Per-Day Design and Gameplay Restrictions

I think you're putting the words into his mouth. People can and do like D&D, yet not have all the same opinions as you; they can even want to change the game. Shock, horror! Edit: Also, thirding Hong's request above.

Poll: Do you want Save-Or-Die in 4th Edition

I'm mostly against save-or-dies; especially because they, by their existence, create a need for things like death ward which renders undead and necromancers pointless as enemies. I think it's a problem with absolute effects; a "finger of death" which causes cascading CON drain, representing...

    Core books cover art

Agreed; it was a good idea, and very welcome after 2nd edition. It really highlighted that yes, this was a system of interconnecting parts that worked together, instead of the mish-mash of tables and disconnected rules in the earlier editions. Now, with a new edition coming, I think it should...
