D&D 4E 4e -- Is The World Made Of Cheese?

As much as I disagree with Gygax on many things, he was absolutely right when he, in the 1e AD&D DMG pointed out that the game's intended to be a game, not an accurate world simulation. Anyway, how did Lizard and the other people complaining about this ever deal with admantine weapons in 3.5...

Please kill off dual wielding ranger genre for 5th ed, please?

I've been more or less indifferent about ranger double-wielding (they do make excellent archers, too, if you're bothered about TWF!), but lately I've found myself leaning towards codifying the TWF thing in D&D all the way down to double-digit editions and more. If only because it will tweak some...

    Feystep

It's definitely that book; and well worth a reading! As others have said, all you have to do to keep an eladrin imprisoned is to blindfold them, or put them in an oubliette, or in a lightless cell so that they can't see where they're going. I think that most powers require you to see what...

Do you like being slated to win?

Somewhere between "normal" and "heroic", tending towards the latter. I like having themed campaign arcs, and having your characters (especially ones who are linked to the campaign) keel off randomly is a big hassle.

Why is 4e like World of Warcraft?

Anything that means fighters can and will intercept the monsters, and keep them from roaming freely to butcher the mages, is a good thing. Time will tell if the 4e implementation of the Defender role is a huge success or an epic failure (most likely, something in between), but I'm optimistic...

    Where's the oppressive fluff?

Actually, there's a thread on RPG.net complaining about the blandness and genericness of the 4e rules... :D

    4E is NOT a V3.75!

I'm perfectly okay for them hating 4e for what it is, but hating it for what it isn't (in this case, a tuned-up 3.5) is kind of missing the point, in my opinion.

Rituals take too long and creative casting is dead

Flight + invisibility at will = total scouting. :) Silence has an area of effect twenty feet in radius; this way, the pixie stayed outside the AoE, and could hear the rest of us telling where to move the silent area. :)

So why can ANYONE use rituals?

Like most non-Lizard people in this thread, I like the idea that rituals are available to anyone who has spent the time and effort to learn casting them (picked the feats). Take a common archetype: a wise old sage, who has delved deep into ancient lore and has knowledge of things most people...

Rituals take too long and creative casting is dead

If there ever was a spell in need of nerfing, it was Silence. This second-level spell not only rendered Move Silently obsolete, and made beating security (ie. guards and alarms) much too easy, it was the generic spellcaster-busting effect. (Sure, Still Spell countered it... but unless your...

    4E Art Direction--Yay or Nay

What I've seen is, IMO, mostly on par with the 3.* e as a whole; some of the stuff isn't as good as the 3e corebooks, but I haven't seen anything as bad as some of the art in the splatbooks. Also, thankfully little Wayne England. ;)

    D&D 4E 4E-inspired art...

Indeed! The rest of the pics are quite nice, as well. :)

Really, No PC Gnomes! Stop Asking!

You know, rolling for scores (in the same way as in 3e) is still listed in the PHB.

    piracy is a problem

Indeed. I'm all for the distribution of stuff via internet, and I know you can't stuff a technological genie back into the bottle... but piracy is not a good thing, not by a long shot. "Parasitism" is a perfectly good and accurate description of it, and I'm worried about the long-term viability...

    Paladins and alignment

The only thing I'm having a bit of a problem with are the (potential) unaligned paladins. That just seems wrong to me, honestly. A paladin should be someone with strong beliefs, be they good or evil.

The Travesty! The Horror! Male Medusae.

Male medusas do not bother me at all; as has been said, maedars have been around for a long time. (Also, this way I don't have to come up with explanations about where the baby medusas come. Although compared to the sphinx, medusas are easy.)

    Excerpt: Archons (merged)

And angels aren't elemental, either. Sounds like he's stuck with the old meanings of the words.

D&D 4E Notes from the 4E Corebooks: Alignment, Monsters, Artifacts and More

I expect at least weretigers and werebears in MM2 next year. They'll come, sooner or later.

    D&D 4E Elementals in 4e ?

I think it's talking about "elementals" as a category of elemental creatures, including archons, efreeti, djinn and the old-style elementals (and probably more). Most of these won't be of only one element in 4e; the archons, and the pure elementals they're made from, are probably the chief...
