Skamos Redmoon, the Pathetic Tiefling Wizard

My concerns about the class have been ameliorated by what I've seen in the higher level spell sheets. However, Skamos isn't representative of what a wizard can do. His spell selection was rather bland. The controller role involves more than leveraging damage across multiple opponents.

    Powers...am I missing something.

Did no one use the ranger's class encounter power?

    How did recharge work?

EDIT: It seems that statblocks containing recharges with a single number lower than 6 were merely shorthand by the transcriber.

    Tieflings

Dear gods. Sans pause. Perhaps I should have written it 'tife-ling'.

Your choices are Kill, or ... Kill

In some thread somewhere, it was said that you could make any attack non-lethal.

    Tieflings

Pronunciation makes all the difference for me. Teef-ling makes me think of some house gnome that bogarts your nose hair trimmer in the middle of the night. Tie-fling sounds more sinister, and that's how I'll say it, right or not.

    D&D 4E My 4e adventure

What a nice demonstration of the complexity that can result from a few well thought out abilities. Awesome battle.

Jason Bulmahn Speaks about DDXP(His take on the system)

He did specifically mention spells cast "throughout the course of battle" but even if we take buffs into account, utility powers in 4e seem to require an action of less than a standard action, so there's actually more opportunity to burn through your roster if you so choose.

    D&D 4E Why Keep a Grid? Measurement in 4E

I come to the exact opposite conclusion. The grid doesn't allow for tactical fuzziness. You know exactly when you're flanking. You know precisely which routes across the battlefield will provoke. It's clear when you're in melee and when you're not. IME, this is the sort of certainty that...

Jason Bulmahn Speaks about DDXP(His take on the system)

Wait. What? You are talking about the notorious 2-3 round battle of 3.x right?

Jason Bulmahn Speaks about DDXP(His take on the system)

Magic missile may be the worst option in most cases. Leave that to the strikers. The wizard should be dropping area attacks to get the baddies nice and bloodied.

Jason Bulmahn Speaks about DDXP(His take on the system)

Point taken. It seems that irrespective of the 'swing' built in to the 4e mechanics you mention, there is also an implicit opportunity for mitigation. The low damage effects and high hitpoints I mentioned before seem to provide(in my admittedly limited experience) a chance for PC response to...

Jason Bulmahn Speaks about DDXP(His take on the system)

I appreciate the explanation. It strikes me though that a 3.x party running into bodaks and having a bad day on the dice is likely to go in the toilet pretty quickly. I've seen girallons evicerate a healthy party simply because they won initiative. With 4e, the larger number of hitpoints, the...

Jason Bulmahn Speaks about DDXP(His take on the system)

I can't believe he said that and expected anyone to take him seriously. Yes, when the DM rolls well and you roll poorly, you have a hard time.

Trip is an Encounter Power now

That's a really good idea. I could see it requiring the tripper to have combat advantage in place of a really crummy modifier.

5th Level Wizard Has 2 Daily And 2 Encounter Powers

Anyone have a guess on how utility powers are doled out with respect to the encounter/daily divide? It caught my attention that the level 16 spellsheet includes 1 encounter and 2 daily. This suggests that you either get to pick which type you'd like or you get more than one.
