Huh...though I posted on this again...oh well. Wrote a review on Paizo's site. Gave it 4 stars because of how overwhelming all the new categories of fiends were. I think I've figured out the other thing that bugs me...some of the entries are rather obviously there (or look like they are...

    Rethinking Psionics

Yep, bought the book. It's a good book. Well, the art is kinda iffy, but the mechanics look sound. They do a good job of 'porting 3.5/d20 psionics and crankin' them to 11. However, I get the vibe that it really is it's own thing. Psionic races seem to have a major leg up in a psionic campaign...

    Your Current Game?

Here's how I rang in the new year - and my n00b players want more. Once the players get the hang of the basics (in a level or two), I'll open up an invite on Gamers looking for Gamers.

A Clockwork Soul - the Aulos

Fluff implies armor bonus is natural. Actually, DR 1/- (or better yet, DR 1/adamantine) sounds fine, and leave it stackable (like with a barbarian's DR).

Taking computer RPG material into your table-top RPG

Sort of. I learned dungeon design from playing too many Zelda games. A metroid-style dungeon, though, would be awsome yet extremely complicated to make. Maybe someday.

Looking for advice on a Boss Fight- Summoner

It could turn into a good reoccuring villain, too: same Eideleon, different summoner. The summoner is really just a "host" for the Eideleon.

    Rethinking Psionics

Retooling all spells as an attack/caster check means that static defenses for Will, Fort, Reflex like 4e instead of opposing save rolls. I don't really want to do that, though, even for psionics. Perhaps what would work better is having a caster check to determine the power of the effect (if...

Pathfinder 1E Mythos beasties in Pathfinder Bestiaries?

While not part of the mythos, Paizo has made flumphs a part of it. Caulborn look to be something of Paizo's creation (although I could be wrong - quick googling and wikipedia searchs turned up only Paizo stuff), but have some freaky psychic stuff.

    Bestiary 3 Commentary

No, but according to the Paizo forums, they've been statted and have artwork yet keep getting cut from products.

A Clockwork Soul - the Aulos

Interesting. I'm not sure about the natural armor bonus...at least it doesn't stack with normal armor, but it would stack with amulets of natural armor, or the monk's AC bonus. Despite the dex penalty, this would make a nasty, nasty monk. The constitution bonus already handles durability...

But there is still no turkey. Why, oh cruel world? Why? Oh, well. At least we now have the chocobo..er..axebeak. Titanus Walleri for the win, there. Hopefully Bestiary 4 will have even more megafauna, as well as mammal-like reptiles. Or at least no new categories of fiends. We have enough, now.

Making guns palatable in high fantasy [Design Theory]

I think people are mixing up plausibility, realism, and suspension of disbelief. The technical definition of Suspension of Disbelief simply requires that a world is consistant with itself. That doesn't mean there aren't "deal-breakers" that ruin it for individuals, though.

    Rethinking Psionics

No, just completly rewriting psionics. Most of the problems you are thinking of are solved by making them spell-like abilities. Fort, Ref, Will still come into play, and some powers will be vs. AC or CMD. Less variety in exchange for more usage. Saga has a recharge mechanic like 4e - wait a few...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition OGL?

Third Party support isn't needed at launch - it is needed to keep sales going even longer. Opening something up makes lawyers and excutives nervous, because it means giving up a certain amount of control. For those who may argue that they cannot make money off of free, isn't the Eberron MMO...

    Rethinking Psionics

So, alpha concept: rethinking psionics. I was looking back over Star Wars Saga's Use the Force and got an idea: Psionic powers manifest using a similar method as using force powers. But here's the major change: 1. Power points come into play to recharge a psionic ability after it is spent...

Making guns palatable in high fantasy [Design Theory]

On the lethality of swords in movies..Lancelot did mow down half a wedding entorage with a sword. Gun-fu also has a tendency to lessen the deadliness of firearms in movies, unless it's a mow-down-the-mooks scene. Doubly true in most anime.

Is the Split a Bad Thing?

I think the biggest difference is that this time there is the Internet. Yes, the internet has been around for quite a while, but there are exponentially more people online today than back in the year 2000 (in the year two-thoousssaaand!). Internet communication has a tendency to exasperate nerd...

    Bestiary 3 Commentary

There is a lot that is thematically incompatable with what I'm currently doing. The many categories of fiends are getting harder to keep track of and new ones are increasingly specialized. Still, it is spawning a few ideas that are being tucked away for future use - like a war between Imperial...

    Making multiclassing competitive with single-classing

It's going to be tricky, since that goes against Paizo's design philosophy for Pathfinder. Personally, I like how d20 modern and SW Saga handle multiclassing, but other than synergy feats houserules or just regular houserules, I don't think the system will give you exactly what you want. Not...
