D&D 5E (2014) What Single Thing Would You Eliminate

This is actually what my first instict told me to say.

D&D 5E (2014) Does anyone else feel like the action economy and the way actions work in general in 5e both just suck?

I love the action system in 5e, it is one of the best features of the game compared to previous editions. I have been playing since 1981 and I think it is the best we have had so far. That said, if you don't like it in your game replace it.

    D&D 5E (2014) sleep vs tasha's laughter

This is not true at level 4/2. Sleep is much, much better at dropping them than SA. At higher levels of Rogue it will eventually be true, but that is not until you hit 9th level in Rogue With advantage and a 16 Dex against a 15AC foe SA is averaging 8.5 DPR for a 4/2 Rogue/wizard (13.8 on a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Your Favorite 5e Houserule

This is not a good way to solve this IMO. To start with the cleric is still going to say it before every skill check, so it does not even solve the "parrot" problem. You still have the main problem you are concerned with, just without the benefit for the party that it is supposed to come...

D&D 5E (2014) Are we at, or close, to peak D&D? Again?

I think the fall in the 90s had a lot to do with poor management and poor QC. Those things could sink D&D again, but I don't think they will. The business model is a lot different now, putting aside the mass media idea, D&D right now makes less I think on actual sales than it does on royalties...

D&D 5E (2014) can a Rogue reroll a SA dice with the piercer feat?

or an Elf can swap longsword and shortsword (which he gets with Rogue anyway) for heavy crossbow and whip.

D&D 5E (2014) can a Rogue reroll a SA dice with the piercer feat?

Weapon master is an great feat for a 1st level Rogue with custom lineage. Doing that, you can start with an 18 dexterity and pick up proficiency with heavy crossbow, whip, net and one other weapon (usually either scimitar or a blunt martial weapon). On point buy that is one of few ways you...

    D&D 5E (2014) Ranged Rogues. Tasha's Changed My Mind

If you don't have disadvantage and if it actually works out that way. All the enemy has to do to beat this is close within 5 feet of you instead of someone else (giving you disadvantage on missile attacks), then you have disadvantage on the attack unless you have CBE or gunner feat...

D&D 5E (2014) can a Rogue reroll a SA dice with the piercer feat?

I have a Rogue that primarily uses a heavy crossbow. He occasionally uses a whip or short sword, not often though. I was considering piercer vs elven accuracy. Key question is can the Rogue reroll a sneak attack dice instead of the d10. For example if he rolls an 9 with the crossbow and a 4...

    D&D 5E (2014) sleep vs tasha's laughter

Thanks everyone. I think I am going to go with sleep. I honestly won't use it much because I have a ton of other spells I will likely use more considering this build. I would't use tasha's much eaither, but if I get sleep I will have it for those corner cases.

    D&D 5E (2014) Ranged Rogues. Tasha's Changed My Mind

First he can only get one SA per turn. Second steady aim is a bonus action and only works on the first attack after you use it. Third if the DM was letting you take steady aim and shoot at enemies at will every turn, with only a -2 to cover, he was not playing the enemies very smart. That...

    D&D 5E (2014) sleep vs tasha's laughter

As much damage as sleep? Unlikely. Average is 14.5 if I hit with SA that is only if I hit. It creeps up to 18 if I have hex running. Average on a crit is 25, which is still less than sleep with a 2nd level slot and I would need a natural 20 for that.

    D&D 5E (2014) sleep vs tasha's laughter

Which one would you pick for a multi-class 4/2 arcane trickster/wizard? At 4th level rogue I get another spell which must be an enchantment or illusion. I already have charm person and disguise self, there is not a lot left that excites me. Sleep is pretty weak for a 6th level character...

D&D 5E (2014) Can I cast a reaction spell and an action/BA spell on my turn.

So RAW no misty step and feather fall as in my example.

    D&D 5E (2014) What's the worst spell?

To start with are you suggesting a casting time as a bonus action or cast as an action, then take dodge as a BA. If it is the first then it is overpowered, since this is a cantrip and not subject to spell slots, it could be used every turn as a free dodge. Think about this with a fighter with...

    D&D 5E (2014) What's the worst spell?

I think bladeward can be pretty useful for a bladesinger.

D&D 5E (2014) Can I cast a reaction spell and an action/BA spell on my turn.

I know there is a general rule about only casting one spell on a players turn, so you can't use both an action spell and a bonus action spell. Does this apply for reaction spells too? RAW reaction spells can be cast on your turn if the trigger happens - example you start falling on your turn...

D&D 5E (2014) AoE spells: Do you play by RAW or RAI?

This is generally how I try to play it, although it is not clear to me. The only thing that makes me question this is the phrase "a turn" instead of "its turn". "A turn" implies they can take this damage on anyone's turn, to include taking it more than once a round. Also if you think about...
