D&D 5E (2014) AoE spells: Do you play by RAW or RAI?

I would say I try to play RAW and as a player I usually do. As a DM, I often screw this up, especially if it is the first time one of these was cast in a while and the player doesn't know/remember how to play it right.

D&D 5E (2014) AoE spells: Do you play by RAW or RAI?

Ok how about if someone pushes you into it? If I turns on a spotlight just to the right of you and someone else comes along and pushes you into that beam, you do "enter" it.

D&D 5E (2014) booming blade plus shove as a tactic - does this work?

You need to be a 6th level wizard to get multiattack. I am not there yet, I am currently 3-2

D&D 5E (2014) booming blade plus shove as a tactic - does this work?

A bladesinger can cast a cantrip using the attack action. It is a feature of the bladesinger's extra attack ability: "Starting at 6th level, you can attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn. Moreover, you can cast one of your cantrips in place of one of...

D&D 5E (2014) booming blade plus shove as a tactic - does this work?

I have a Arcane Trickster-bladesinger with booming blade cantrip. I am thinking of using a tactic where I use booming blade and then use a shove for my second attack. The Character has expertise in athletics, so she is pretty good at shoving even though she has an 8 strength. Question I have...

    D&D 5E (2014) Buffing Level 11+ Monks

18=8+5prof+5wisdom and they have to save before they cast a spell targeting the Monk. At 11th level it is 17 like you said. IMO a Monk should max wisdom first and the role of the class is not to do massive damage in melee, maxing dex for the Monk so he can do damage is like maxing strength for...

    D&D 5E (2014) Buffing Level 11+ Monks

Well it should be an 18 DC. I am sure something will save but a CR11 Dragon is going to fail more than he is going to save and he is not going to save often enough to do serious damage if the Monk can get in and out. Even a CR17 Dragon is going to have a difficult time doing serious damage...

    D&D 5E (2014) Buffing Level 11+ Monks

1E got bonuses to weapon damage as well. I think it was +0.5 damage per Monk level

    D&D 5E (2014) Buffing Level 11+ Monks

I disagree with the premise that Monk's get weak. While some of the 11th-level features seem undepowered, the 13th and 14th level Monk abilities are among the best high-level abilities in the game. Diamond soul is the equivalent of three feats in one ability. Most of the 17th-level features...

    D&D 5E (2014) Your Favorite 5e Houserule

Drawing one weapon is interact with object, which I call a free action above. RAW picking up off the ground should be the same. In my mind and in my game, drawing from a scabbard or off your back where it is slung or whatever is an easy and it is probably something you even practice in front...

    D&D 5E (2014) Your Favorite 5e Houserule

As a DM there are two house rules I always play with: 1. Picking up a weapon off the ground takes an action. You can kick it with your free action, but you need to use an action to actually pick it up. Drawing a weapon from a scabard is a free action and dropping a weapon is completely free...

    D&D 5E (2014) Comparing Monk DPR

This is absolutely not true. The sample variance changes with every measurement (roll). Even if the sample distribution exactly matches the expected distribution for a population, the sample variance will still be larger than the population variance because the denominator in the sample...

    D&D 5E (2014) Polearm Master and Monk

Spear works with PAM and is versatile as well and does the same damage as quarterstaff. Greatclub doesn't work with PAM, but it shouldn't. FWIW I don't think either of these weapons should do more damage than a quarterstaff. Not sure I do understand.

    D&D 5E (2014) Comparing Monk DPR

Well any monk can use sharpshooter with a shortbow or crossbow. A Kensai does more damage due to his Kensie damage bonus and can use a longbow, but sharpshooter is a viable build for any monk. If you want attack damage, Kensei is undeniably the best monk build. It gives up quite a bit to way...

    D&D 5E (2014) Comparing Monk DPR

Tasha's greatly expands the weapons Monks can use and more or less makes this not applicable any more. Sharpshooter in particular works really well with just about any Monk using a crossbow or shortbow, it also works with a Kensei and a longbow. You can also do a Kensei build with GWM and...

    D&D 5E (2014) Polearm Master and Monk

According to English fencing manuals from the 15th and 16th century the quarterstaff is one of best hand-to-hand weapons one can use. The techniques used with it are mirrored or often described in the same section as polearms, so including it with polearms is historically accurate. As for...

    D&D 5E (2014) Polearm Master and Monk

In general I do not think that is a great feat for a Monk because he can already make a bonus action martial arts attack for as much or more damage. If you combine it with Sentinel and play a bugbear it might be ok, but that is two feats.
