    Overrated/Underrated Geek Media

Yeah, it was pretty ambitious, but it was interesting, had solid cast of characters. In a sense, they were ahead of it's time with multi season story arc ( i think they originally intended to have at least 2 seasons) in era where most tv shows had at best loose plot thread but every episode was...

Problem with the Rock is he is just playing himself in different costumes. He is more or less the same in every movie.

    Spoilers The Pitt on Max

Love this show. 1 episode- 1 hour of the shift is great. It cuts down on time for soap opera interpersonal relations most medical tv shows are full off. We see in "real time" effects of their decisions and how it impacts characters.

    Overrated/Underrated Geek Media

Underrated: Space:Above and beyond. Very solid military sf from the 90's, unfortunately, it got canceled after only 1 season. Overrated: Dune books, especially God Emperor, Heretics and Chapterhous. It's just booring snozefest of philosophical ramblings. Atlas Shrugged- some people love it...

How do you like to handle dungeon mapping?

Well, we are lucky, since one friend is architect, so drawing buildings and floor plans is what he does professionally. He is the guy that usually maps things. Sure, scale might be off, but he is darn good at approximating things. I'm no slouch myself when it comes to drawing maps ( 75 hours of...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5.0 Retrospective. Races Most/Least Popular (anecdotes).

Humans, elves, half elves and dwarfs make more than 95% of characters in our games in last 10 years. 5 dragonborns, 2 tieflings, 1 warforged, 1 shifter, 1 tabaxi. That's it.

D&D General Doing Tragedy in D&D

@Hussar I have. It's fun game. And it's mix of tragedy and horror that always ends with - world ends, everyone dies, no matter how hard you try. It's meant to be played as one shot. But there are other games that do tragedy better. Like good old VtM. Virtues, vices, humanity, hunger...

D&D General Sandbox style: Rumors say a +1 sword is in a cave nearby. Go get it?

Incentive to go trough monsters to get +1 sword is highly setting dependent. In Dark Sun, it's pretty darn big one for regular steel sword, let alone magic one. In FR, where +1 swords are so common you could pick one up at your local grocery store, not so much. But, if DM uses it as a hook to...

D&D General Doing Tragedy in D&D

For some genres, D&D just isn't good fit. Is it technically doable? Sure, pretty much anything is technically doable in D&D. But like @Hussar said, for some genres you are actively fighting system. I would argue that for the amount of work needed on both player and dm end, juice just isn't worth...

D&D General How often do you use Homebrew in your own games?

Player options almost never. Everything else, almost always. House rules, setting with all it's quirks, monsters (some of which are modified MM), items ( both mundane and magical). Only time i use only published stuff is when i need to cobble together one shot on short notice.

D&D General Doing Tragedy in D&D

At my table, first and most important rule is - don't be A-hole. Bringing in character that actively avoids going with the program is A hole behavior no matter what veneer of "i'm just roleplaying my character" player puts on. Wanna play that "i just wanna stay home" character? No problemo...

D&D General Which edition handled alignment best?

3.x( PF1 included) had fair bit of alignment restrictions when it came to classes and spells. My only problem is DMs authority over alignment changes and it's up to their interpretation if something is in line with alignment or not. On the very basic level, sometimes that alignment change would...

D&D General Which edition handled alignment best?

I don't ever since 5e playtest came out way back in 2013, and we also ditched bonds, flaws and ideals along the way. Best thing they did is removed mechanics tied to alignment. In 3.x you kinda had to use it since you know, items, classes, spells, DR's and similar stuff were all baked in...

D&D General Which edition handled alignment best?

This is big one, DM's interpretation vs players interpretation of what is too far or how many times is too many times. Pair it with decent chunk of classes and prestige classes that have alignment restrictions, spells and items that target specific alignments or require them to use and for good...

D&D General Which edition handled alignment best?

Sometimes logical thing to do would go contrary to alignment. And then you can get punished by DM. I always viewed TN as someone who "doesn't stink, doesn't smell". Debates revolved around universal vs relativistic morality when dealing with good and evil.

D&D General Which edition handled alignment best?

And Chaotic Stupid Antipaladins (if we include pf1 with 3.x). One of the reasons i never liked alignment is tying mechanics to characters personality and moral and ethical code. It pidgeonholes them and punishes people who like to play with complex shades of grey morality characters. Not to...

    D&D 5E (2024) What's Your 2026 WotC D&D Wishlist?

Book of 9 swords updated to 5e. D&D 2024 modern - urban fantasy adventures Space opera rules set, with appropriate new classes and cool new items. After all, it's just fantasy in space. This is wishlist and not one of those things will come out ever.

D&D General Which edition handled alignment best?

5e cause it's reduced to pure aestethics. You can ignore it and game runs smooth without it, no mechanics tied to it. On the other hand, alignment was always one of those things that pissed me off in d&d.

D&D 5E (2024) Is Combat Tedious on Purpose?

New edition bad is usually - i invested money in books and don't wanna buy whole new set. Problem is, core books are bestsellers. So, compromise solution is - half edition with heavy emphasis on compatibility. But that compatibility comes at the cost of creativity. Design choices are heavily...

D&D 5E (2024) Is Combat Tedious on Purpose?

As a very small shareholder, i want Hasbro to do well. So far, it's couple of bucks up. Wouldn't mind if it goes to at least 70 bucks, but more, the better, since it's dividend yielding stock at 4.55% dividend. As a gamer, i couldn't care less about some nebulous "hobby". I care if companies...
