    [MotW] Tamer of Beasts Prc

This is one of the things that really bugs me about this PrC. Why in the blue blazes would you ever WANT your animal companions to become magical beasts? Some of your best spells would then be useless on your own animal friends. No Animal Growth, Nature's Favor, etc. The addition of ability...

    Silly druids

The designers have said that the restrictions on a Druid aren't there for balance... they are there for flavor. As such, you could rule 0 the lot and give them the same proficiencies as Clerics if you wanted. Wouldn't make much difference overall. If I Druid with a Greatclub makes sense to...

    Shifters and non-melded equipment

I'd say humanoid forms only just to keep things simple. Those are the only forms that would really use armor anyway (well, I'd maybe make an exception for a horse with barding) and otherwise things just start getting goofy. "What the heck is that?" "Why, it's a dire weasel in plate mail of...

    MotW shapechanging PrC

Be aware that the big limitation of the Shift PrC is that you completely give up all spellcasting advancement. This means a couple of things to a druid. Your animal friend will no longer get any better (since it's based on caster level) and you won't get those nifty higher level spells. In...

Animal Lord PrC and unlimited healing

By the time you can do this type of shift-healing, clerics are usually casting multiple COMPLETE healing spells per day. What's the big deal here guys? Seriously? I mean, are you running a campaign where your party basically NEVER gets to rest where this ability would actually be THAT...

    Animal Companion

Shifter is cool and all... but a straight Druid or Verdant Lord is probably more powerful overall. Their shifting isn't quite as strong (though it's close since they don't have to worry about the whole hit dice limitation) but they still get all the spells.

    Animal Companion

Acutally this exact case is spoken to in MotW and says that the Awakened animal DOES NOT just wander off. Page 37 under Awakened Animals. Also of note is the Tamer of Beasts who gains the special ability to grant their pets extra intelligence and changes their type into Magical Beast. It...

    Animal Companion

Coming from experience, the Giant Constrictor is hard to beat for a companion. We had a guy with a Rod of the Python and we eventually had to come up with a reason for destroying it because we felt guilty using it... it was just sick. :)

MotW: Behold, I am the Elf/Dwarf, with a Prc at 2nd level!

Why yes dream spawn... yes he would. You just nailed my latest character design. :) +10 Strength when raging and frenzied. Of course, you better make sure you find a way to raise those Will saves, or you'll be hacking your friends to pieces if you can't stop the frenzy after the baddies are...

    Shifter questions...

Re: Re: Shifter questions... It doesn't heal ability damage. The description specifically mentions it even IIRC. :)

    [MotW] Faster Healing?

The healing that Shifters and high level Druids gain through Wild Shape is fairly negligible considering the type of healing powers a typical party has by that point (multiple complete healing spells per day). Just my 2 cents on that.

MotW: Behold, I am the Elf/Dwarf, with a Prc at 2nd level!

The Fighter/Barbarian/Forsaker is much nastier than a Monk/Forsaker IMHO. Rage becomes HUGE when you are depending solely upon your natural stats. Of course, if you're just going for an uber defensive character, the Monk might have an edge as you could ignore getting good strength and just...

    Shapechange --> Golem

This is tough because technically if the Magic Immunity kept your Shapechange spell (or other magical buffs) safe from an Antimagic field (or area effect Dispel or Disjunction for that matter), it would also keep you from being effected by the very Shapechange (or any other buffs) you seek to...

Pitiful Monk, your speed impresses me not.

This whole thread is exactly the reason we changed Expeditious Retreat and the Boots of Springing and Striding in our campaign to a flat movement bonus of +30ft. Solves all this madness about x4 suddenly turning into x8. :)

Killing a retriever (aka The Neverending Fight)

All CRs assume a party is "reasonably prepared" to face the challenge. Take that as you will. ;)

    Motw: Shifter (and Shapechange spell)

Just rule 0 it. :) Going to talk to my DM about it next session. I doubt he'll have a problem putting Fey in there somewhere.

    Miasma: Slow Inevitable Death?

It would be possible... sure. But we're talking roughly 30 rounds before an average threat (to a 7th level party) would suffer any negative effects from Miasma. Do you really think that the target isn't going to A) escape or B) be killed by the party or C) have killed the party during 30...

    Motw: Shifter (and Shapechange spell)

Aye. It's definitely strange that you can't become Fey. Not really sure for the reasoning behind it (other than a possible oversight) since the really nasty Fey abilities are Supernatural and therefore not inherited.

    Miasma: Slow Inevitable Death?

It's extremely slow, has a duration, and has a medium range increment. In my opinion it's worthless except for roleplaying situations. There are much deadlier spells available at 4th level. You can run away when you get hit with Miasma or better yet... just go thwump the caster until dead. ;)

    Motw: Shifter (and Shapechange spell)

One key thing to keep in mind about the Shifter is that Greater Wild Shape is limited to a creature of equal or less hit dice. So if you're a Druid 5/ Shifter 2... no shifting into a Green Hag for you. Even though it's a Medium Monstrous Humanoid it has 9 hit dice and is therefore off limits...
