D&D 5E (2024) How many of you would implement the drop to 0 HP, get 1 level of exhaustion house rule?

I don't plan to, but I might if the rule included a boost to healing - I might re-add a rule I tried once: When you heal hp, you can also spend Hit Dice. Up to one Hit Die per die rolled for healing, or one Hit Die per 5 hp healed if no dice are rolled. This makes it possible to actually keep...

    D&D 5E (2014) Greyhawk: Pitching the Reboot

Vampires were, in general, dominating the fantasy space at the time. So I'd say it was both.

    D&D 5E (2014) Greyhawk: Pitching the Reboot

The World of Darkness line was outselling AD&D for a bit there, actually. Vampire hit the zeitgeist of the 90's just right and did very well commercially for a ttrpg. Nowadays it just wouldn't - pop culture isn't into vampires in a big way anymore - but it did well in its day. Based on the...

D&D General Which non-D&D races would like to see in Dungeons and Dragons?

Just make them high-level spellcasters. They probably shouldn't match DnD gods, but be strong enough mages to have personal armies. The basic template is a mid-tier warrior. Then add an elite warrior or two (say, CRs 5, 8, and 11) and assume other roles are filled by Jaffa who are also trained...

D&D General Which non-D&D races would like to see in Dungeons and Dragons?

Vulcans are highly emotional - they have to work very hard indeed to maintain a semblance of self-control.

D&D General Which non-D&D races would like to see in Dungeons and Dragons?

Something like that, except they can pull off being seen as a living god so much, much stronger. But the pic is close enough (actually slightly better) Jaffa look human (big dudes but would pass for human if not for the scarification) and are mostly soldiers. Some are other ranking servants...

D&D General What Races/Species do you think are missing from Dungeons and Dragons?

If you want a word from real-life lore, it's probably however a Mandarin Chinese speaker would pronounce the kanji for kemonomimi. Shapechanging animals have a long history* in East Asian mythology.** If you're want to pull form DnD lore that's hengenyokai, which is also Japanese. But DnD has...

D&D General Which non-D&D races would like to see in Dungeons and Dragons?

With Star Trek in particular, there's also an issue of niche invasion. Vulcans are basically space elves, and Klingons are basically space orcs (although late-series Klingons are more like space dragonborn IMO). So they're kinda redundant.

D&D General Which non-D&D races would like to see in Dungeons and Dragons?

The Goa'uld are evil snake-things that imbed in you body, wrap around your spine, and take over your brain. Do ing so grants some physical advantages to the host but the goa'uld gains complete control. They use their advanced technology to pose as gods. A DnD version would be powerful...

D&D General Which non-D&D races would like to see in Dungeons and Dragons?

I’d be interested in a DnD take on Goa’uld and Jaffa from Stargate. More as antagonists than pcs, though.

D&D General What Races/Species do you think are missing from Dungeons and Dragons?

I agree about dog-people. Heck, they're one of the oldest fantasy races - the ancient Romans talked about them! You could throw in wolf-people and jackal- and coyote-people as variants/subraces/refluffs. I'm also surprised that I haven't seen a UA for kemonomimi (lit. "animal ears") aka anime...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D species article

Not to be that guy but... Pathfinder 2e did that (kinda, via versatile heritages and a feat.)

    D&D 5E (2014) Strength bows?

Welcome and congratulations on your first thread necromancy! I don't recall which thread or poster it was but I do remember someone saying that had success just giving bows the finesse property, which works both ways.

    D&D General Brobdingnag

I agree that if you're playing giants you should still be bigger than everyone else. But for some reason I think this would combine well with a prehistoric setting like Planegea. Giants + lower tech feels thematically right. Edit to add: also, I think you'd need to do a lot of homebrewing (or...

D&D General A Setting with Only Small Races/Species?

I feel that the limitation would reinforce the theme: you're little guys, you don't wield big weapons. There's a slight balance issue in that the hand crossbow is not the best weapon in the game (under 2014 rules; we'll see how that changes in a few months) which is a little annoying but I'm...

D&D General A Setting with Only Small Races/Species?

In 5e, you can tank with dex just as easily in most cases. Not the halfling or gnome barbarians really suffer form the lack of heavy weapons - sword + board was always the tankier option.

D&D General Words which replaced "race" in fantasy games

That is the rub - we don't have a non-loaded term for major biological differences, because humans don't have major biological differences. Race is loaded. Species would be good but creates silly arguments. Speaking for myself, I don't really have a preference beyond not liking either of those.

D&D General Words which replaced "race" in fantasy games

I'd say "ethnicity" has moved into the vacant slot, although non-academics use it like it's much clearer than it actually is.
