D&D 5E (2024) I thought the new Sorcerer art Iconic was actually the Bard's in previous art.

Siblings would also work; tieflingness might not manifest even in people with fiendish heritage. Or their dad's a bard.

D&D General Race Has No Mechanics. What do you play?

Call of Cthuhlu has been around nearly as long as DnD, and the 90's World of Darkness line didn't have an equivalent of race unless you combined lines. If we look at DnD-inspired video games, quite a few big names don't use race at all, like Ultima (after 4) and Guild Wars 1. So I don't think...

D&D General Race Has No Mechanics. What do you play?

It's be a slight nerf to pc's overall, and a reduction in customizability, but the game would still work. I'd include a level one bonus feat if I were to do this. That should mostly make up the "lost" ground.

D&D General What Do Tabaxi Look Like in Your Games? (A Poll)

Any of the above - I assume beastfolk all exist along a spectrum of human-ness to animal-ness, and anywhere along that spectrum is at least possible. The average is towards the middle. There's a stereotype that more human-looking ones have more human-like intelligence, but it's not really...

D&D 5E (2014) If you don't like ASI at character creation...

I'd go one step further: let's just drop ability scores altogether. But if we're not killing that sacred cow, OP's idea is a fine one I'd be happy to play with.

D&D General Race Has No Mechanics. What do you play?

Having played a centaur, I can tell you the most important mechanical aspect was: +2 strength. All the other stuff barely came up (as in, maybe once) in a 1-16 campaign. So even if you reduced them to only +2 strength ... they would play exactly the same mechanics-wise. All the rest - all the...

D&D General Race Has No Mechanics. What do you play?

The true essence of playing an elf is being 7.6% more likely to hit with a bow. Without that, are you really playing an elf?

D&D 5E (2024) I thought the new Sorcerer art Iconic was actually the Bard's in previous art.

They're also using a lot more (at least 60 if each class gets five) so it's more of an Easter egg when one repeats. I suspect the artists might like to re-use designs and tell snippets of stories via art over the course of the books, and I imagine the art directors will allow this, but it's...

D&D General Race Has No Mechanics. What do you play?

One interesting choice here would be centaur, as there's a built-in workaround for some dms having extreme difficulty with the concept of characters who can't climb ladders, despite never using a ladder in the actual game.

D&D General Race Has No Mechanics. What do you play?

Given the opposition to changelings, it seems that the answer is no. Also I was assuming the options were the normal playable races, not any species the player can think of. So frost giants and dragons would probably be out.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Video Schedule: July 1st-12th!

Yeah, it's kid of a deep cut into DnD lore since they usually have the exact same stats as sun elves (being the two main types of high elves) - but Warcraft night elves look like FR moon elves. Drow have their own distinct look.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Video Schedule: July 1st-12th!

looks more like a moon elf to me - they're the blue/purple ones; drow are grey

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Video Schedule: July 1st-12th!

It's a weird name for the "using more power than you can handle" trope. "Overflow" would probably be a better name for the feature.

    D&D General Your next race/species

Don't limit yourself like that - you could be a dwarf rogue! (and complain about the poor craftsmanship on all these locks. No standards these days.)

    D&D General Your next race/species

If my next game allows it, I have a shifter barbarian concept I'd like to play. Shifters are a direction I've never really explored. The other idea is a gnome artificer, which is a combination I haven't seen yet in play. (Well, not since AD&D 2e was the current edition.)

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Monk"

Looks like a lot of small buffs and removing spammability from Stunning Strike. Could be good?

D&D General Race Has No Mechanics. What do you play?

For a hengeyokai, the only way to play that would be to play a druid and re-fluff wildshape a bit. But given the "everything else is positive" clause in the OP I'd try to get a homebrew rule where I get more uses of wildshape but am more restricted n form choice (my options are: cat and bigger...

D&D General Race Has No Mechanics. What do you play?

Dragonborn, probably. Because dragons are cool. In theory, it's "human unless I have a reason to pick something else" but it takes so little reason that it's not all that likely that I'll stick with human. I tend to base characters on one of two things: art and/or interesting mechanics. If...

    D&D 5E (2014) A better model for Legendary Resistance

Which is another way to burn through LR - just stun or grapple. (LR should be usable against grapples, by the way. Mostly so fighters can burn them too, but also because being grabbed can be nearly as bad as being stunned in terms of screwing a solo monster.) In my experience, LR is only...

Yeah that's totally cool in 5e with no penalties, except for the lance
