D&D 5E (2014) Escaping from (rope) bonds... What is your ruling?

I default to allowing proficiency if it makes sense at least a bit, and both of those qualify. I would also allow strength (athletics) to simply break the rope, though the DC may be different.

D&D General What is the right amount of Classes for Dungeons and Dragons?

For a surprising number of people: it's not called fighter. It's not enough that the option exists, they need it to have the label they want. Similar to how 4e made rangers (who dont use magic in 4e) the archer class (and dex-warriors in general) and some people hated that. They wanted fighter...

D&D General What do you like to do in playing D&D

Nearly any of these; even the one I didn't vote for could be fun I just haven't seen them handled well very often. A general theme though is: I want to see my character grow and become someone special; there's just a lot of ways to do this.

D&D 5E (2014) Adapting the Warlock Chassis for other Classes

Yo. I just don't think that really involves changing any full casters much - wizards are plenty strong already. I'd say the same about warlocks for the most part (the Mystic Arcanum options are... lackluster) and sorcerers need more spells somehow, but otherwise ful casters are fine...

    D&D General Boomer/GenX 5e? (+)

Just add in close proximity to a ski resort and a summer camp with a lake and we're cooking with gas!

    D&D General Gish Thoughts

A good gish is more than just fighter + magic-user; there's always some special extra thing that brings the two ideas together and blends them. It doesn't need to be much; you can do it with a subclass feature in theory. But then you really want a half-caster which limits you. The Hexblade does...

D&D 5E (2014) Adapting the Warlock Chassis for other Classes

Hexblade is the second-best gish in 5e (after paladin). The others don't manage balance or blending well.

D&D General What is the right amount of Classes for Dungeons and Dragons?

Different person but I listed 17 several pages ago. Arcane gets wizard and artificer, divine gets cleric (white mage really) and paladin, primal gets druid and beastmaster ranger and warden/primal barbarian, dragon magic gets sorcerer and dragoon, fiendish magic gets warlock and hexblade...

D&D 5E (2024) Which section of the 2024 PHB will you check out first?

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

    D&D General Boomer/GenX 5e? (+)

I remember seeing a survey that asked: Which generation is most often overlooked? a. Boomer b. Millennials c. Gen Z d. Gen Alpha

D&D 5E (2024) Which section of the 2024 PHB will you check out first?

I'd probably skim and maybe look deeper into any specific option that I generally like - ie I'd check out dragon born and warlocks and certain feats and spells before I read the rest of the races and classes.

D&D General How Do You Handle Falling Damage?

If I was going to run an airship-based campaign, I might make a houserule that falling off an airship = death unless you can start flying before you hit the ground, as a way to simplify how we handle falling off the ship. On the other hand, I ight not. If you're tough enough to survive a 20d6...

D&D 5E (2014) Which classes have the least identity?

That's not what the analogy was meant to show, though: An objectively worse option shouldn't be included.

D&D General What is the right amount of Classes for Dungeons and Dragons?

I think the only real consensus is that it's a multiple of four.

D&D 5E (2014) Which classes have the least identity?

I thin the closest analogy would be: You allow each pc to start with a magic item. If they're a weapon-using class, it's a magic weapon. They have three choices: +3 weapon Flame Tongue (+2d6 fire damage) Moon Blade (only glows) They all glow as bright as a torch. The third option is...

D&D General What is the Quintissential D&D Mascot Monster?

Just changed my vote - Tiamat hits all the beats you'd want for a single iconic monster for the entire game. Cons: she wants to eat me five times as much as all the other answers, so definitely fails Morrus's criteria

D&D General Which Edition Had The Best Dragons?

I kinda like the distinct profiles - it makes them more iconic and means they're still identifiable in black + white drawings. Not that I use by-the-book dragons in actual play like, ever.

D&D General Druids and Path Dependency: Why the Scimitar Helps Illuminate D&D

Mistletoe is such a weird choice since it's a parasite plant anyways. And can't make enrgy from food. But this does allow me to have my plant=person druid just have her spellcasting focus growing out of her arm, which is neat.

D&D General What is the right amount of Classes for Dungeons and Dragons?

It could be, but only if we're breaking up fighter and rogue into several classes. Swash fits nicely in the middle of those, being a dex/cha primary class. It would probably use superiority dice (as would a more str-focused warblade.) Dex/int would be more like a skill-based rogue, including...

D&D General Which Edition Had The Best Dragons?

It's the cover of a Dragonlance novel; the horn patterns by type weren't codified (or a thing at all) until 3e.
