D&D 5E (2014) Onmyoji: A class in production: feedback welcome

Hmm. Making a class too focused on a certain type of enemy generally doesn't work well; they'll be too weak in fights against humanoids and beasts. You might think you can balance this by making them overpowered in demon fights, but aside from requiring the dm now have to worry about...

D&D General 70% Of Games End At Lvl 7?

My actual experience matches this, but based on how these conversations go and the actual data we have I think we're the outliers. Most people just struggle to keep a group together for that long.

Can they bind any creature? And what happens to a bound creature?

D&D General 70% Of Games End At Lvl 7?

With weekly play, that's 26 sessions if exactly none get canceled. More likely it's about 20 sessions. In other words, if you level up every session you actually play, 1-20 is barely possible to do in six months.

D&D General 70% Of Games End At Lvl 7?

I've been in a lot of 3-20 campaigns, and a few 1-20's. They take 5+ years at least. Getting a group together for that is the main outlier. If you only play a campaign for a year (much more realistic) it's hard to do more than ten levels, and probably more realistic to do 5 or fewer. So 3-8...

So you're done with D&D but still want to play D&Dish fantasy...

Near as I can tell, Daggerheart is one step toward narrative-focused play (starting from 5e). So if you like 5e but wish it was a little easier to refluff, was more flexible on backstory, and had more roleplaying prompts than 5e, Daggerheart might be right for you. If you’re starting from a...

D&D General What if we gave dragonborn four arms?

I never minded dragonborn, I think they might be my favorite DnD race -but I can understand why some people don't like them aesthetically. I also don't want wings on my dragonborn because I want them to be distinct from half-dragons - but that's also mostly an aesthetic preference. I'd...

D&D General What if we gave dragonborn four arms?

Some dms don't mind flying pcs, other despise them. I think it depends on the kinds of encounters you like to make, since flight trivializes some and is barely even useful in others. I don't know if I'd want flight on a core race, though. That makes it harder for dms to restrict it.

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

It seems like learning to use Fear in a fun way is going to be the main skill for gming Daggerheart well. Yeah this is the main issue I see with this - unlucky rolling is potentially screwing the players three ways - more failure, more Fear, and less Hope. Any one of those wouldn't be a...

D&D General Can I use your character for an NPC in my new market?

Aandhee Skel, blue dragonborn wizard. She hordes knowledge. (because to become a dragon, you must have a horde.) Also by the end of that campaign there were at least four copies of her running around doing wizard-dragon stuff.

D&D General Optimistic Thoughts on Optimizing

Are there other ways to fail? If so, optimize for success under those conditions. If not, and it’s just a low-stakes game then mechanical optimization is kinda pointless. You may want to optimize for story potential, which is a different set of considerations.

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

I woud structure it this way: Part 1 of the book is a broad overview of the setting, highlighting te things that make it special. So an Eberron book would talk about the Last War and magic-punk and unknown gods. A Ravenloft book would talk about horror in ttrpgs and the vibes of the setting...

D&D General Optimistic Thoughts on Optimizing

Analogy: running is fun and good and healthy. Walking is fun and good and healthy. But if you're on a walk with friends but insist that they run, you're being a jerk. But if your (ex-)friends decide that the problem is running, they're being a different kind of jerk.

Not much, but campaign frames don't need extra rules. But the frame also sets things like, themes, touchpoints, limitation and so on that are rather helpful to making Ravenloft work. You gotta go in knowing it's a Hammer-horror game. I might add some details about character fears to work with...

Amazon seems to hedge their bets on delivery times - mine was supposed to come sometime in early July, but it came last Saturday (a few days after I ordered it.) Under-promise and over-deliver seems to be their motto.

    VTT/online-play Etiquette and Horror Stories

I have had an issue with "overly comfortable" dress, but that guy has enough red flags for a CCP parade. The rest are more hypothetical problems than recurring issues for me.

D&D General Chris Perkins and Jeremy Crawford Join Darrington Press

After thinking about this (and some other news) for a couple days I realize I have no idea what, if any, effect this will have on Hasbro or WotC. They're both way to big for me to predict. This is still very big news for Darrington Press, and I've mentally upgraded the odds of them being a...

D&D General Chris Perkins and Jeremy Crawford Join Darrington Press

Given Daggerheart’s “campaign theme” mechanism I think there’s some real potential for stuff like this, especially if the module adds new game features to really make it shine.
