Racism is real and so far all of the arguments for cultural appropriation have leaned so heavily on it that it should be obvious why.
Culture is a side effect of humans with shared experiences.
I blame academic delinquency for cultural mores like this. The same kind of thinking that spawned...
Oh, it just occurred to me the injured man.....was a chef! The dragon was going to force him to cook it’s meals.
Never go in against a paladin when Death! Is on the line.
Would you let a druid wear metal armor just once to save their lives without penalty?
Would the paladin have given the...
The term itself is nonsensical. It’s exactly what I stated. You cite two examples of something you think is disrespectful to the originating culture. You proceeded to expose bias as Cinco De Mayo is a Mexican holiday last time I checked Mexican does not mean Latino. While spirit animals exist in...
What do you want the game to do? Is it only a more granular chargen process on a d20 system? Is there a style you are aiming for like gritty, S&S, High Fantasy and/or something else?
I tried to find the article you mentioned. Is it in this thread?
I still disagree about Cultural Appropriation. Here’s why. Culture is always changing. Traditions that define culture are abandoned. They are not static and they are discarded when their purpose is no longer relevant. Sometimes...
Cultural appropriation does not exist. It is junk science adopted by people with an axe to grind. No proofs are required, people will just believe because it explains why they are unhappy. ( even if they weren’t ) They now have a bogeyman that they can persecute.
Write what you want, some will...
I think they just dabble in paladinhood.
For six levels. What we’ve got here is a magic using warrior, no paladin.
When I think of a paladin (yes even oath of the ancients) I think of Luke Skywalker. So yeah this guy wasn’t cut out to be a paladin. No slight on him, I wouldn’t do it. Take his...
I am not a paladin. Not a murderer but possibly a coward. People are not money. I would part with my money but with people on the line my self preservation might not kick in as fast as my sense of do something quick!
Diplomacy: Yes you could eat this man and me too. Spare us and I will bring you a team of oxen or a herd of goats to feast on. Surely such a venerable paragon of draconic might has an appetite such that we morsels would not sate it.
( I might have saved us both and then some for 60gp.)
I reread your post and still feel it ambiguous. You state that the player was given no good options. I never felt that the options were A) give the dragon this guy or B) Fight and die. If those were the only options then that is bad.
Don’t try to think outside of the box, that’s impossible...
While I am having fun you might not be. Let me know if you want me to lay off.
The paladin didn’t just make a mistake. The paladin used someone who was ostensibly in their care or custody as a bargaining chip.
A Paladin, a Dragon and an injured man take a vote to see what’s for dinner.
It was a choice
Did you refute my claim? I don’t think you did. Moral relativism was the root of the arguments against the alignment system. Players want agency not constraints. Nine alignments and usually about nine paragraphs about what they are. Is it any wonder the system didn’t work well...
