D&D 5E (2014) Are you using 3d6 apply as rolled and if so can you share your experience?

I have done it several times. I will probably do it again. I say that because I had fun. They weren’t joke characters. Some had decent scores. In my experience, the more you have invested in creating a character the more things can impede your enjoyment. (Mind you this is not a guarantee.)...

Pathfinder 2E Are you moving from 5E to PF2?

After reading some of these responses I think that if Pathfinder 2e is easy to run I may give it a go. I would be impressed if the GM section had something new and/or useful. In my experience GM guides are about as useful as the screen.

Pathfinder 2E Are you moving from 5E to PF2?

Will PF2e have tons of splatbooks?

Worlds of Design: Who Needs Spellcasters Anyway?

I think the comparison of damage is putting the cart before the horse. AOE spells do lots of damage IF there are multiple targets BUT would the targets exist if no AOE spells were there? Thus high damage is dependent on both possession of AOE and multiple targets. Also damage is often assumed...

    D&D 5E (2014) Players: Why Do You Want to Roll a d20?

D20 is like the Goldilocks of dice. D4-d12 maximum roll is too common. D100 is too rare. That’s why I like it. Plus D&D means d20 and d20 means D&D to me.

D&D 4E Where was 4e headed before it was canned?

I think it was headed in the direction of board games. Wrath of A and Legend of Drizzt. I got both in the last couple of years and they compelled me to reevaluate 4e. I decided it was better than I gave it credit for being.

EN World What do you like about the new site?

For me it’s notifications. They work better and you can stay with a thread easier.

Pathfinder 2E Are you moving from 5E to PF2?

I will be trying it.....but, So far we have made characters and that alone is enough for me to give it a hard pass. I do not like any of the design considerations. Nor the art direction. I am again confronted by a nagging suspicion that modern RPG’s “customization” is an illusion.

D&D General Escaping the Shadow of Drizzt

Easy peasy, make a drow that acts like a drow.

    Favourite D&D edition that’s not 5E

I voted 2e. It was a tough call between 2e and 3e. Mechanics wise they both have plusses and minuses. Lore for 2e is miles and miles ahead. Last but not least art direction. For me Elmore, Caldwell and Easley are tops. I have nothing nice to say about Wayne Reynolds style. 4e has become better...

D&D 5E (2014) The Charismatic Fighting "Hero" - Which Core Class does it Best?

The poll outcome looks like I would imagine. I also think it is very close to truth. Look up hero in the dictionary and the paladin’s picture is next to it. The bard is great but is closer to the scoundrel type imho.

90% of D&D Games Stop By Level 10; Wizards More Popular At Higher Levels

This sounds cool. Too bad I missed it. And I have no AUD. Travis Henry Basic Basic D&D is there in D&D. A lot of people were taught D&D. Some taught themselves. No one gets it right. Not One. If you were lucky enough to start young chances are you grabbed some dice scribbled down some...

    Wish me (epic) luck!

I’m in about the same area. My players are 16th going on 17th the things they can do are insane. I don’t think I will take them to epic but 20 sounds nice.

How to Make the Fey Less Twee

You may have your work cut out for you. If you have murder hobos. (John Carpenter’s Vampires comes to mind with their vampire hunters.) I think the movie Evil Dead might make the fey less twee. (Not Army of Darkness Ash but sawed of his own hand in desperation Ash.) Or Make the NPCs around...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e - Just Missing the Mark

That’s how bad the index is. The books are clearly designed to be read once and memorized. Until character generation then you must look it up. It’s downright Quixotic.

    D&D 5E (2014) I hate rapiers. Do you?

Apparently I already voted on this one some time ago. I wonder how I voted. If I were me I would...... I give up. I don’t know how I would vote. I don’t want to appear wishy-washy and contradict myself so my vote stands. All in favor say aye. Aye. The aye has it. Is there other business on the...

    Mythological Figures: Odysseus/Ulysses (5E)

He then fired it through seven axe handles. Or at least the rings on the back which I would think needs a pretty strong draw to flatten the arc of the arrow. Unless they were very close together. I am not an archer so I don’t know.

    Mythological Figures: Odysseus/Ulysses (5E)

I would say he has at least a 16 Strength and 16 constitution. Probably 18. The bow being one example he could string every time. His son could do it but it took 4 tries. None of the suitors could string it and it was twelve axe handles. He physically restrained at least three of his men I...
