Thoughts on Eldritch Knight Polearm Build

Yeah, who cares about the rules of the game. :) Not exactly a helpful attitude when someone is asking questions assuming we are actually following the written rules.

Thoughts on Eldritch Knight Polearm Build

LOL, well then I guess my fireballs have a range of 250 feet, do 20d6 damage, and have a 40' radius. Because that's how I'm going to choose to "interpret" the spell. And you can't say different, because that's my opinion. :)

Although in this case the Sage is entirely correct, and you were ignoring the wording of the spell. But why let things like facts get in the way of a good rant?

How Involved Should The DM Be As A Warlock's Patron?

My personal opinion is the DM should have the patron be as involved as the player wants them to be, generally. Some players have a character concept that has the patron being heavily involved with the character (i.e. communicating via dreams and visions, having other warlocks or minions show...

    D&D 5E (2014) You find a magical _____, it does _____

A Pretty Penny (Wondrous Item, Legendary) This legendary coin has a value equal to the exact price of any single item you want to buy, as long as the item is for sale and has a price assigned to it. No one knows why the pretty penny is worth as much as it is, but everyone agrees that it...

D&D 5E (2014) Need backstory help with an Orc OotA Paladin in service to a Fey Lord

He entered the service of the Bear King as the result of his father challenging the Bear King - and losing. His father was a mighty warrior of the Orc Tribes, but not mighty enough. Normally challenging the Bear King and losing means your life is forfeit, but he managed to strike a last...

Cleric of Gruumsh in a party with an Elf

Obviously this calls for a cage match between the players (not the characters) with the DM playing ringside announcer. The winner gets to play their character as they wish, the loser has to create a new character.

    Why I dislike Milestone XP

See? Even he agrees. Just do things to his liking and you won't have any problems. [emoji2]

    Why I dislike Milestone XP

Whatever you say mate. He's done everything I've mentioned - it's all here in the forum history for you to read. I'm not making anything up. Obviously your mileage has indeed varied from mine. :)

    Why I dislike Milestone XP

You can quote lots of stuff from books. Doesn't mean you believe it. He has repeatedly stated he wants to focus on things that advance his character, and not spend time on other things. Sounds like if he doesn't get rewarded with a tangible sign of character advancement (i.e. XP or a clearly...

    Why I dislike Milestone XP

It's a matter of feeling in control. Unless the DM is running one of the books where the milestones are set in stone and you can predict them, you can feel a lack of control because only the DM knows for sure what qualifies as a "significant encounter" or a "milestone" or "end of chapter"...

    Why I dislike Milestone XP

If he can't "game the system" to advance faster, he won't enjoy it. He doesn't want to engage in the story, he just wants to "win". Which is a valid playstyle, but one that will likely be frustrated with milestone or chapter based advancement - because it will feel like they have no...

    Why I dislike Milestone XP

Wow. Someone is certainly impressed with their own opinion. [emoji2]

    Why I dislike Milestone XP

Wow, you really don't get it. None of that matters - he's talking about AL, where the possible XP is predetermined for each adventure ahead of time. If the mod only gives XP for combat, that's all you are going to get XP for. This is a weak argument. You should probably consider dropping it.

    Why I dislike Milestone XP

Because people only learn from their experiences if their life is at risk. 🤣

    Why I dislike Milestone XP

Yeah, but you don't get XP. And as we all know, that is the only reward that really matters. [emoji2]

    Why I dislike Milestone XP

Nicely passive aggressive. That specific sentence was a joke. Sadly, you chose to ignore all the constructive things I actually did say that preceded it. :( Oh well, cherry picking things to be mad about seems to be par for the course around here.

    Why I dislike Milestone XP

Another way to look at it is there can be competing reward systems - playing in order to gain the reward of XP, or playing in order to gain the reward of a fun time playing your character. Ideally, they are in synch and you feel equally rewarded for pursuing both, and can pursue both at the...
