Left 4 Dead in 5e: The Infected

I'm setting up a special scenario for my home campaign, based on the "Left 4 Dead 2" cooperative survival horror (3rd person shooter) game from Valve. This is what I have so far (still working on the rest of the stat blocks). This is a very rough conversion of the Infected from Valve’s “Left...

Help me decide where the seven parts to the Rod of Seven Parts are!

The various rod parts are 1) Behind the couch at their mother's house. (Whichever PC still has living parents. You know, the weird character who isn't an orphan out for revenge.) 2) Being used as wedge under a table leg to keep the table from wobbling...in a bar in the City of Brass on the...

Paladin / Warlock Faith conflict query

Obviously their god doesn't provide everything, or there would be nothing to gain from multi-classing into warlock. :p Besides, just because they grant you spells doesn't mean your patron deity is micromanaging your life. It's not all about you. Maybe the deity is really busy with other...

Playing D&D: Homebrew or Published Setting? Why?

I prefer to run and play in Homebrew settings, but I play a lot of Adventure League because that is where the play opportunities are in my area.

    D&D 5E (2014) Make a Flawed Magic Item

Gnomish Boots of Striding and Springing (Uncommon, Requires Attunement) -These boots incorporate gears on the ankles that turn with every step, storing energy in pistons attached to the calves. These boots make a grinding/whirring noise with each step, giving disadvantage on stealth checks...

Please remove Demiplane of Dread Story Award next season

How dare you question the word of the Prophet! They know the greed that lies in the hearts of players better than the players themselves! The tenets of Pauperism tell us that far too many players are in danger of actually enjoying the game. Too much gold, too many magic items, and now...

Recommendations for a first AL module?

DDEX1-02 Secrets of Sokol Keep is a mod that is pretty simple to run and has some good RP potential, and is relatively easy - is has no "big boss" encounter, just several smaller fights.

Recommendations for a first AL module?

DDAL 5-16 Parnast Under Siege. (Just kidding, don't do that.) Are you looking for something simple, or something challenging, or something with a good magic item at the end to get people hooked?

    D&D 5E (2014) Homebrew Monster: Prismatic Hydra

That's why I made the room so big. The heads each take up a 10x10 area and spread out, and move around every turn. The wizard was able to get two of them in a fireball, once. They could have gotten three at one point, and another time four heads were lined up for a lightning bolt but they...

    D&D 5E (2014) Homebrew Monster: Prismatic Hydra

I ran the encounter tonight - it was in 100' x 100' room with several 10' x 10' platforms and catwalks around the edges and "pump controls" in the center of the room. The room was a central processing point and pumping station for trash and sewage in a massive sewer complex under the city...

    D&D 5E (2014) Make a Flawed Magic Item

Boots of Excessive Springing: These boots triple your jump distance, however when you jump you always jump your maximum possible distance (i.e. 3 x your str score on a running jump). If you do not have enough movement left to complete the jump, you end your turn in mid-leap and land on your...

D&D 5E (2014) Character Backstories: Care to share?

This one is pretty long. It's the backstory of Jack Frostbrand, a hexblade warlock I'm currently playing in a non-AL game so the DM gave me free reign to reskin the fluff while keeping the mechanics the same. I may have gone overboard - a three page family history, plus 5 pages of his personal...

D&D 5E (2014) Help Me Think Like an Ice Devil

You're a devil. It's time to make a deal with someone. Probably those humans, since they seem to be able to come and go as they please. They are champions of Law, you are a being of Law and Evil. Play up the Law, downplay the Evil, and find something you can offer them or promise them in...

    D&D 5E (2014) Swimming and combat : rules clarification

I generally treat shots through the Air/Water interface as granting the target 3/4 Cover (+5 AC, +5 to Dexterity saves), rather than Disadvantage. If the target is submersed in murky water, then the attack would have Disadvantage (as you can't see them), but it may be canceled out if the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Adamantine Skeleton?

I'm being totally realistic. That's why you need a healing factor (or the D&D equivalent - regeneration) to compensate. I mean, it's clearly spelled out in the relevant literature. B-)

In D&D Adamantine has traditionally been a black metal.

    D&D 5E (2014) Should a D&D 5e DM read the DMG and PHB?

Given the number of people I've played with who don't know how even basic class abilities of their 10th level character work...I'm not even sure literacy is required to play D&D, much less reading the PHB or the DMG. That being said - it sure does help, both for the players and the DM.
