    D&D 5E (2014) So Was That Z Fellow right?

Maybe not to you. But I think there is a huge difference - because if the DM is being spiteful that means your PC really has no chance. If the DM wants you dead, you are gonna die. If the DM is running their monsters intelligently but fairly, that doesn't mean certain death for the PC's.

    D&D 5E (2014) So Was That Z Fellow right?

Yeah, but that's not what Parmandur is saying. He's just saying he's going to target that character. No waiting to see them chop down anyone, just innate knowledge of the PC's capabilities and automatic targeting. Presumably they also know the PC's worst save and the best way to defend...

D&D 5E (2014) New Primal Path and Why it is OP

Sorry, don't have the book with me and I was going by the OP's post where they said the barb was immune to the "Unconscious" status.

They are immune to the "unconscious" status while raging, so Sleep doesn't work. Other stuff will though.

D&D 5E (2014) New Primal Path and Why it is OP

I'm not 100% certain either, but I'm leaning toward "You dead, real dead." Probably a good question for Sage Advice.

D&D 5E (2014) New Primal Path and Why it is OP

It does mean they are incredibly vulnerable to a lot of "insta-kill" effects while at 0 HP. Disintegrate, Power Word Kill, Finger of Death, etc.

D&D 5E (2014) New Primal Path and Why it is OP

Not exactly - they die at the end of their rage if they fail 3. Until then they are dead on their feet and still fighting. Unless they get any healing before their rage ends. Such as popping a potion after you kill the last of your opponents.

D&D 5E (2014) New Primal Path and Why it is OP

That's true only if you assume opponents of the barbarian will only use damaging attacks. Easiest way to deal with it is to put them in "time out" of some kind after they get into the danger zone. Banishment, Maze, Hold Monster/Person, Suggestion (Run home as fast as you can...), etc.

    D&D 5E (2014) So Was That Z Fellow right?

Not totally true. Some people enjoy playing D&D as competition between the DM and the players, with the DM actively acting against the PC's - but usually it's within certain limits or it's not "fair". Not my cup of tea, but I can understand the attraction. My only objection with what...

    D&D 5E (2014) So Was That Z Fellow right?

Doesn't sound like a risk, sounds like a certainty. "Make a character in a way I don't like, and they will die during play." The way you describe doing it sounds like the opposite of fun. But whatever floats your boat. Just glad I don't have to deal with it. :)

    D&D 5E (2014) So Was That Z Fellow right?

So you make sure they all know you are an adversarial DM who will kill their characters if they step out of line before the game starts. I guess that's a good thing?

That's not even being passive/aggressive. That's just aggressively being a jerk.

D&D 5E (2014) Do you prefer to fight with melee or ranged weapons?

I play a lot of melee and ranged, with both weapons and spells. I tend to prefer spells for range, as archery in 5e is pretty boring (if very effective).

    D&D 5E (2014) Demon Lord Summoning Ideas

You need Orcus's True Name to summon him physically into the Shadowfell. Orcus can't/won't tell the lich, so he is searching out bits of text and forgotten lore that contain parts of the True Name. The PC's can try to find locate and recover/destroy them first to try and stop the lich...

    D&D 5E (2014) Using a quarterstaff one handed?

I visualize it as a cross between the Escrima fighting style (which uses shorter weapons than a quarterstaff) and a bo staff fighting style. The character "chokes up" on the staff and uses their body as a brace as they swing, gaining extra torque as it rotates around their torso. Or does...

Looking for a Hexblade Bladelock Build

Warcaster lets you cast a spell on an Attack of Opportunity that can only target a single creature. After lvl 5, Eldritch Blast can target multiple creatures and is no longer usable with Warcaster. [Edit: Sorry, I was incorrect on this. I think I was confusing it with the errata for the...

D&D 5E (2014) The "Powergamers (Min/maxer)" vs "Alpha Gamers" vs "Role Play Gamers" vs "GM" balance mismatch "problem(s)"

To give them a sense of the scope of the world and their current place in it? To give them a goal to strive for later? (Dragons have treasure hoards!) To lend a sense of verisimilitude to the game, as not all enemies will be carefully calibrated to the PC's levels, so they should open to...
