Yes, I thought that was very cool. WAR does a good job of depicting characters that look like they've been through some stuff and survived to become badasses.

Very interesting indeed, but I don't see how this has anything to do with running D&D without minis. I expected a discussion of how combat could work without a grid and miniatoures even in a heavily tactical system like 4e seems to be. Ahhh well.

You saying this is very interesting to me because I have found that the way powers are described in 4e reminds me very much of the HERO system.

Why not give players and DMs the option of starting characters out at a lower level if they want a more gritty experience or starting characters out at 3rd or 4th level if they want something more powerful? How can providing options not be a Good Thing?
