    D&D 5E (2014) White Plume Mountain - The Weapons

Since I'm without a DMG (but I do have one on order!), could you guys just let me know what weapon types they are? TIA

    D&D 5E (2014) eldritch knight multiclass

I just looked this up: the 6/14 and 7/13 splits get the same number of spells at 20th level. That 7th level EK ability is definitely worth it!

Pathfinder 1E What do I need (never played Pathfinder before)?

Is it safe to say 3.5 isn't too foreign for somebody who is only familiar with 3.0?

Pathfinder 1E What do I need (never played Pathfinder before)?

Haha, yes, I have dice. Only one set right now, but I have them.

Pathfinder 1E What do I need (never played Pathfinder before)?

Hey guys. I've never played Pathfinder before, but I found a meetup group very close to me that plays. I have read it's related to 3.5. I have played 3.0 in the past, so I assume it's fairly close. I liked the 3e system when it came out. My main issue with it was the best physical characters...

    D&D 5E (2014) White Plume Mountain - The Weapons

I know this is a bit of thread necromancy, but is Whelm a war hammer or a maul? What about the stats for Frostreaver? How would intelligent weapons be treated in 5e?

D&D 5E (2014) Characters that annoy you (and/or the players who play them)

I've never been a fan of Elves. Not sure exactly why, but it probably stems from back in basic D&D, when your class was "Elf." They were overpowered and there was one gamer (who cheated and had the DM's constant favor) that always played an Elf. When that player was finally convinced to play...

Well, I've certainly never played with you then.

D&D 5E (2014) Characters that annoy you (and/or the players who play them)

What annoys you as a player? Me, I don't like when a majority of the party isn't heroic. There are very few fantasy books or movies where the heroes aren't Good (The "Elric" books come to mind though). I despise consistently late players. I don't like when players justify their actions by...

    D&D 5E (2014) Help a WotC newb!

Wow, thanks a lot guys. I didn't realize two things that really turn me on to spellcasters: 1) Wizards "memorization" has changed. I always hated that. 2) Warlocks get all their spells back after a short rest. Wow.

    D&D 5E (2014) Help a WotC newb!

What issues with spellcasting do I find difficult? Hmmm, I guess it's because it's a whole new world to me. I mean, I just got the PHB less than a week ago. I haven't had time to read the whole thing, so I decided to go with my tried and true favorite (Fighter) because that cuts about half the...

    D&D 5E (2014) eldritch knight multiclass

I also read somewhere the EK 6 > Wizard 14 was a very good build. I like the progression: start off as a Fighter, dabble a bit in wizardry (EK levels), then decide that's the way to go for you, and advance as a Wizard the rest of the way. I think with 6 Fighter levels, you'll never really be...

    D&D 5E (2014) Help a WotC newb!

Hey guys. Last time I played a lot of D&D, it was 2e. TSR, much different rules than today. I noticed in my game last night that there are really no Magic Users in the party (yes, we called them Magic Users back in the day). There aren't any Bards, Clerics, Druids, or Sorcerers either. This...

    D&D 5E (2014) Hit dice used

I'm in a similar boat. I did play a couple of 3e games about 10 years ago, but very few. 85-90% of my gaming experience is in AD&D 2e. These new rules are ... different. It's definitely a bit overwhelming at first. My first game is tomorrow. I'm hoping it gets easier and clearer after that.

    D&D 5E (2014) Multiple Standard Arrays

Really interesting idea. You could modify the point buy in another way: just allow more or less than the 27 points, depending on the level of game you're shooting for. Also, a DM could house rule higher stats for players who wanted to play MAD characters. When I played 1e (with unearthed...

D&D 5E (2014) Trying to build a pole arm fighter

I just got off of work, but I was thinking the same thing during the day. I also don't see why I can't use a Halberd at 5' distance. No point in the Greataxe at all IMHO. I hope this new DM sees things as I do. I also hope he's flexible with the Halberd. In AD&D 1e and 2e (90% of my D&D...

D&D 5E (2014) Trying to build a pole arm fighter

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Here's my goal list: Polearm Mastery Sentinel Great Weapon Master Heavy Armor Master Heavy Armor Master is most useful at low levels, but it has nothing to do with the concept. It puts me in a tough spot: do I take it first and reap the benefits (DR - which...

D&D 5E (2014) Weapons hidden in the MM

I've never seen this in a book, only in Baldurs Gate and games like that. I remember one of the later Basic D&D books having weapon mastery, but it was incredibly unbalancing.

    D&D 5E (2014) Reach weapons: what's the drawback?

Is there a rule against a reach weapon being used at a 5' range? My whole "halberd wielding half orc Fighter" concept had me thinking he could just choke up a bit and still use the weapon close. When you look at it, using the Polearm Master feat with that 1d4 butt end attack doesn't make a...
