I'm putting together a half orc fighter. They get intimidate for free, and if I choose the soldier background, they get it again. Am I throwing away a skill by choosing this background, or is there a substitute? TIA

unfortunately, I think the spiked shield would end the benefits of the Dueling fighting style, but that only affects some Paladins and Fighters.

I can definitely understand that! One huge drawback of Wizards since AD&D has been around has been that losing that spellbook is absolutely crippling.

All I can find is that they can not use weapons with the Heavy property. Does this mean that a Gnome or Halfling Fighter can swing a Battle Axe or Long Sword with a Shield and have no penalty?

It seems to me, in my admittedly extremely limited experience, that a weapon with Reach is extremely powerful. They keep many enemies at a distance they can't hurt you, and if an enemy without Reach wants to hit you, they provoke an Opportunity Attack. Is that right?
