    D&D 5E (2014) Help a WotC newb!

Ok, whew, thanks. I thought I was doing it right, but this is our first wizard character. Always good to make sure.

    D&D 5E (2014) Help a WotC newb!

Wait a sec, something in this thread is making me question myself... One of my players has a wizard, and I'm allowing him to recharge slots with short rests. Did I read it wrong, am I allowing him something he should not have?

D&D 5E (2014) Players Killing Players for stupid reason

This thread made me think of Belkar in Order of the Stick - a fantastic comic if you haven't heard of it. Even if your PC is a murderous little evil halfling rogue, aka SEXY SHOELESS GOD OF WAR, they still have to work with the party and play the game. Murdering other PCs ends the session, if...

D&D 5E (2014) Familiars: what happens when the summoner dies?

One of the newer 5E adventures has a regular pseudodragon that can potentially bind with a PC. Checking for it now. Edit: Severin's pseudodragon in the Rise of Tiamat is NE and will try to kill the PCs if you kill Severin, but I think the potential is there for perhaps an evil warlock PC or...

D&D 5E (2014) 5th edition Forgotten Realms: Why can't you just ignore the lore?

To each their own, just stating what I'd want. OGB 1E is the only type of reboot of FR that I'd buy. *shrug*

D&D 5E (2014) Familiars: what happens when the summoner dies?

Certainly with an Imp or Quasit, I'd treat them like pseudodragons. They would go off and do things they'd normally do, after their master dies. If the master/summoner is brought back to life (raise dead or whatnot), then it might even be a fun side adventure to have them go track the beastie...

D&D 5E (2014) Familiars: what happens when the summoner dies?

In 5E, technically, aren't they now a kind of bound spirit that takes animal form? I'd imagine they'd -poof- back to the plane they were summoned from. Although special familiars like pseudodragons are still monsters, and are rather more companions these days. In older editions, they were...

D&D 5E (2014) 5th edition Forgotten Realms: Why can't you just ignore the lore?

Completely agree. Reboot to the Old Gray Box of 1E Realms, before all the cheez-whiz.

D&D 5E (2014) 5th edition Forgotten Realms: Why can't you just ignore the lore?

For those people who care about playing in the canon "living" Realms, no - it would be insufficient. Take a look at some people like Sailor Moon who prefer canon games. In this thread she's point-blank told people to "go educate yourself" and that others "obviously aren't familiar with the...

D&D 5E (2014) 5th edition Forgotten Realms: Why can't you just ignore the lore?

The moment you start cutting out huge swaths of lore from the Realms, technically you're no longer running a Realms game. Many people do run homebrew games and import bits and pieces of the Realms. But those are homebrew, not canon Realms games. And people who beg and cajole to play in the...

D&D 5E (2014) 5th edition Forgotten Realms: Why can't you just ignore the lore?

I don't think you understand the scope of the problem. The Realms canon includes everything published by WotC (and TSR), which includes campaign guides. But it also includes novels (and there are scores of those) from many authors. It also includes modules produced over the past 20+ years. A...

D&D 5E (2014) 5th edition Forgotten Realms: Why can't you just ignore the lore?

It was a joke, and I was referring to the place in the Realms. If I say more about what happens to it, it'll spoil the novel ending for you. Suffice it to say that it gets pretty damaged.

D&D 5E (2014) 5th edition Forgotten Realms: Why can't you just ignore the lore?

Ed's most recent novel involved a lot of damage to Candlekeep. The wards are shattered, and most of the monks, well, you'll have to read it.

D&D 5E (2014) 5th edition Forgotten Realms: Why can't you just ignore the lore?

I don't know if you've been lately, but Candlekeep is full of angry ghosts and cobwebs.

    D&D 5E (2014) Minimum ability scores for a PC

What mechanical observations? I've never made a single post about 5E mechanics, or any mechanics of the game in any edition.

    D&D 5E (2014) Minimum ability scores for a PC

I hesitate to share this, because some people have freaked out when we tell them how we do stats. But it's worked for us for years. We let people create their character concept, and allow them to choose stats that they think are appropriate. No rolling of dice, we just let players assign...

    D&D 5E (2014) Copper piece value in U.S. dollars?

Not sure what to say, other than being sorry I can't find it now myself. I don't have the basic set, and the "huh, that's interesting" moment that I had today while working on my new character had to have been while I was using one of the manuals. I don't remember having anything else open at...

    D&D 5E (2014) Copper piece value in U.S. dollars?

I can't find it now, but it had to be something in 5E because I was working on a new character and remember seeing it in something official done by WotC. Still looking for it. I can say, though, that quite a lot of people have done some pretty interesting calculation estimates over the years...

    D&D 5E (2014) Copper piece value in U.S. dollars?

Yes, pretty sure it's this. I think one of the manuals estimates 1gp to be about $100 or so. If it's 10 copper to 1 silver and 10 silver to 1gp, that would be 1cp = $1, roughly. Local prices and availability of items/services might be different from one country to another or even city to...

D&D 5E (2014) How I think HoTDQ should of been handled.

What an extremely friendly and terribly selective response. Thanks SO much! Once again I forgot that it's important to give detailed explanations when using any nouns on a forum talking about FR, so I'll elaborate. By "beta materials" what I meant was everything that was published and...
