    D&D 5E (2014) Upcoming BBoC...

Yeah, I know I have heard Mearls et al. talk about the idea as a general design concept, not just for AL but for maintaining accessibility. It is similar to the idea that he has expressed that everyone should be able to just have the core 3 books and be able to run any adventure they put out...

    D&D 5E (2014) Upcoming BBoC...

That sort of philosophy, and it extends beyond the AL rule, is a part of why I am so into 5e. Unfortunately (for me) it's likely they will break with it as time goes by. The fact that they aren't treating Vgtm as "core" in the adventures is promising though. Wotc doesn't owe me anything, they...

D&D 5E (2014) Anyone else think the Bard concept is just silly?

Who in there right mind would bring singing, drums, horns, trumpets or anything musical into a battle? Sure it happened all over the world in history but everyone was silly back then. Now stand back so my wizard can wave their wand and say the magic words... :)

D&D 5E (2014) Mike Mearls interview - states that they may be getting off of the 2 AP/year train.

I will never understand the need to say things that obviously aren't true.

D&D 5E (2014) Basic Thoughts on All the PHB Classes

Don't take this the wrong way but I just had to say that this made me laugh out loud. I am sure there is a reasonable explanation for the assumption but the idea of someone thumbing through the PHB and thinking "This class looks TOUGH" is funny to me. Don't get me wrong I agree that the 5e Bard...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Explores Downtime Activities

"Dungeon Life" released a video about this one already with explanation by Mearls and Crawford that's interesting IMO. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZgQLjILm48

You shouldn't feel sad though, because there are hardback RPG books that are selling really well. The 5e PHB sold more copies than previous (3.0, 3.5, 4e) PHBs quite awhile ago.

D&D 5E (2014) Mike Mearls interview - states that they may be getting off of the 2 AP/year train.

Yeah, there are definitely different preferences and different strategies among rpg publishers, but the size and nature of the companies hasn't mattered much. We have seen small companies try to milk it's audience for everything it's worth (in my unbiased opinion ;)), put out very little outside...

D&D 5E (2014) Mike Mearls interview - states that they may be getting off of the 2 AP/year train.

Well it's quite simple if you just read what I wrote. TTRPGs are about people playing role playing games together. Why would that mean that there can't be any "business" involved? If someone buys anything related to TTRPGS, or in any way money is made as a result of it then business is...

Where is your evidence for this, I see mountains of evidence that RPGs with multiple interests provide huge satisfaction to huge numbers of people, you must have examples that exceed this to back up your point. Or is it entirely theoretical?

There's a whole lot of wrong in this post, like undeniably provably wrong. Except there very obviously is. This is just pure fantasy or deliberate untruth. 5e has benefited customers (I for one have benefited greatly, having fun with RPGs in a way I haven't for decades despite trying many...

D&D 5E (2014) Oh god, not goblins again...

I know the feeling! It seems like almost every single time I pick up a book or watch a movie or tv show it has humans in it! I mean, there must be a million stories written about humans at this point and we have all seen hundreds or thousands of them, is it really possible to write another one...

D&D 5E (2014) What's up With Durnan's Coin in Tales from the Yawning Portal?

I mentioned it when they first talked about supposed "easter eggs":hmm: on the cover. Figured there would be an explanation in the book, weird.

    D&D 5E (2014) Best Class and Why???

I can't really pick favorites but over the years I have mostly found myself wanting to play either a Fighter or a Wizard, opposite ends of the spectrum but I kinda like them equally. I liked the cleric but they kinda got too smashy in appearance for me to prefer them, and it always seems like...

SKT IMO has exponentially more easy to steal locations and encounters and they can work in so many settings with almost no effort. If you are paying 50 I am guessing it is at a bricks and mortar store (it's 25 USD on amazon right now), so a quick flip through should make it very apparent. I am...

Well, I can say I would never have bought it in softcover, not saying I am representative but it makes a huge difference to me. Ok, I suppose "never" might be overstating but I really prefer hardcovers.

D&D 5E (2014) Do you use all of the P.C. races and classes from the PHB?

It really just depends on the game to me. I am not a fan of Dragonborn because IME they are one of those options that seems to draw in and amplify the things in players that I want less of. I often don't have PC Druids because I find them a PITA to run in the same way I sometimes discourage...

D&D 5E (2014) Legacy of the Crystal Shard Mine of Phandelver

I don't know much about LotCS, but LMoP is super easy to drop into most settings. I mean you have a small town, a cave, a forgotten castle and a forgotten mine, etc. these things could be anywhere in reasonable traveling distance from one another. I will say though, LMoP ties very well directly...

D&D 5E (2014) I allow using INT for initiative bonus, thoughts?

I would have to agree with others in that I don't think it particularly makes all that much real world sense for "intelligence" to determine initiative. I dare say most people who have been to a MENSA meetup would agree. I suppose the farther you remove Int from IQ the more it makes sense but it...
