What's the point of the Eldritch Knight PrC?

What about the battle sorcerer variant from UA? I haven't seen anyone mention that class yet. How do they stack up?

    New Campaign Idea: War!

First off, what genre of game is it? D&D or modern? If you want to run a game about a tight-knit unit of grunts like Saving Private Ryan or Platoon, I'd suggest a more modern setting, since that kind of small unit dynamic is more common in modern warfare rather than medieval-style war. If its...

    DM Reference Sheet 3.5??

There's an updated sheet in the downloads section. Also, I've attached my own Labor of Love below. Its not landscape, though. Sorry

    Who's excited about Blue Rose?

Just read about it on the front page. I'm stoked. This sounds exactly like the d20-lite game I've been day-dreaming about ever since I bought UA. Just the skill-based magic system alone is worth the buy. All the fluffy romantic elements are optional I assume? Can't wait. Who's with me?!?!

Should there be a skill for the ability to smell?

This is the direction I hope a 4th edition goes. Refinement. Move Silent + Hide = Stealth? Intimidate + Diplomacy + Bluff = Persuasion? Climb + Swim + Jump = Athletics? Balance + Tumble = Acrobatics? etc etc Skills are broad, and feats focus things. Feats could allow you to do special...

Should there be a skill for the ability to smell?

As Crothian mentioned, there's already a scent ability. Personally, I wish some skills could be consolidated. Listen, Spot, Scent, maybe even Sense Motive into "Perception". Move Silent, Hide, maybe Disguise into "Stealth", etc.

    Fun with Tiles

You might try buying a big piece of plexiglass and when you have the tiles set up to your liking, just lay the plexi on top. Just an idea.

    Referendum on AD&D 2e

Ironically, I seem to recall 2e was designed based on player feedback from this gigantic questionaire in Dragon magazine. In other words, if 2e was crappy, you can thank the players who sent in the questionaire with their craptacular ideas. Makes you think twice about those "what would you...

fed up with mini randomness...back to counters? (teeny-tiny rant)

Thats a good idea. Didn't the old 1e Monster Manual have an entry in their stat block for rarity?

Best Mass Combat/Skirmish Rules for DND/d20?

If you can find it, Fields of Blood: The Book of War by Eden Studios has a really nice mass combat system. There are rules for converting any creature into a unit, rules for sieges, and air units. You don't need minis, but you do need to make your own counters somehow. Also, many units you have...

fed up with mini randomness...back to counters? (teeny-tiny rant)

Thats ok. I still want to keep him. He's pretty neat. And he's mine mine mine. :D Indeed. I have "Zombies". I bought it at GenCon last year. The board game is kinda meh but the zombie figures rock. And we have used them in our RPG. You can even buy glow in the dark ones, I think. How's THAT...

fed up with mini randomness...back to counters? (teeny-tiny rant)

Ok, so I pop open a new pack of Giants of Legend and I'm thrilled to get a frost giant. I look at the bottom and it turns out he's rare. Okay, so I guess I can forget about having an encounter with more than one frost giant. Sure, maybe I can trade for one or buy one online. But why does...

My Thoughts on DnD, and the next Edition (Long, rambly)

Uhg. I'd say feats and skills are some of the top things that slow the game down the most. If we're talking 4th ed. using UA variants, I'd use the level = skill rank rule, or some variation of it. Anything to save me time when creating npcs. Same goes for feats. Many can be consolidated or...

    Eberron soundtrack

Pretty good music. Quality is similar to the Neverwinter Nights game. BTW, anybody else try roleplaying to the NWN music? You can pull the music files off the disk, change the file type to mp3, and burn youself a disk to take to game nite. We love it.

    WotC Miniatures

Good idea. WotC could use more competition in this area. I need a bag of trolls. Nor do I want to pay $22 each for them in the aftermarket.

    Update on D&D Movie sequel

reacting to the gaming report post: If the film only has a 15 mil budget, I'm guessing it will go straight to video. Animated D&D series: I wonder if they're thinking maybe CG animated? That would be nice....the technology is definitely there.

    Which battlemat to get?

I'd say chessex is better. The ink tends to bead up or smear on Crystal Caste. Battle Mat. Get the biggest mat you can afford.

    Which battlemat to get?

I will mention one gripe about the tact-tiles : The grid lines are a bit thick. You have to use thick markers to get your maps to show up- thin markers, esp. lighter colored ones, are hard to see. I wish the grid lines were gray, just a few shades darker than the tile itself. Or better yet...

The offical ENWorld Doom 3 reaction thread.

The horror element, the whispering voices, the mysterious tendrils of otherworldly goo growing all over the place, and the unraveling story via pda's....all remind me of System Shock 2. Not so much the exact story, but the feel. I loved SS 2.
