    D&D 3.x 3.5 Question - Single or Multiple Checks

Probably because if they spelled out every game procedure that was subject to DM's discretion, there wouldn't be any room for rules. I've seen some D&D modules (RtToEE in particular) use that exact ruling... essentially inattentive guards "Take 5." IIRC Somewhere else I've even seen the idea of...

    Random Town Generator?

Also, for quick village and town maps, I've used a program imaginatively called "Roleplaying City Map Generator" or "Stadtplan Generator." The homepage is gone - replaced by some sort of browser game where you play gnomes for spam and scams - but the program can still be found: English v5.4...

    Talk me down: Withdrawal

Yes it's believable. A person can run around trees/buildings/terrain in such a way that all things being equal you can't get telling melee attack on them. I seem to recall similar standoffs as a child playing with toy swords. You either have to outmaneuver your target, or tire them out. Also...

    Random Town Generator?

This one doesn't generate a map, but it does give you inhabitants and shops.

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Question - Single or Multiple Checks

I would have the thief roll once, opposed by each of the guard's Listen rolls. Unless the guards had a reason to be alert, I would have them take 10 on the roll. I would require each PC to make a single MS roll (assuming the corridor is not especially long), opposed by the rolls of the guards...

How come no one's publishing the old Corebooks?

Not if prices for 3.5 PHBs are any indication. You can still get half to full cover price for a used PHB - more if the buyers are bid-crazy or in a hurry. The pricing on 3.5 DMGs/MMs is pretty stagnant though, so that might indicate there are a limited number of new DMs. I don't think there's...

    Appropriate ECL for 10 players?

My particular favorite version of the same thing is similarly organized, but easier on the eyes.

Is house ruling fair to the game or gamers when first introducing it?

Say you have a point... is it fair to the point to beat around the bush and try to get other people to agree with your point without them knowing it, or should you just get right to the point you're trying to make?

What are Your Favorite Out of Print RPGs?

    Arcane Chaneling full attack

"...the spell affects each target you hit in melee combat that round..." All attacks, but only once per target. IMO this is fairly clear from the description in PHBII, but just in case the FAQ clarifies it. Each target will only be affected by the spell once.

    Trailblazer in a Nutshell?

Similar but different. Here is a list of changes, but in IMO the real winner in the book is a section that takes apart the assumptions behind the d20 class and monster system and looks at the math involved across all levels. The info is great if you like to tinker with d20 games.

What Would a 4e Mystara Look Like?

I do. The only major breakout setting since Eberron (itself fairly vanilla) has been Golarion, which is about as middle-of-the-road fantasy as you can get. The tough thing is for the campaign not to be labeled vanilla by the fanbase (Living Greyhawk) or worse, treated as vanilla by the publisher...

    Talk me down: Withdrawal

It's a necessary action to keep the game from locking down once everyone is in melee. It's not a simulationist manuever, it's a gamist one. It's one of the few actions that encourages manuever in 3.5, so I'd be loathe to get rid of it. If it helps feel more "sim", try allowing participants in...

    Pathfinder 1E Well done Paizo

I wish Grinding Gear or Death Frost Doom would've won something - honorable mentions at the least - because I'd like to see more adventures like them... but Paizo definitely earned every award they've won. Congrats.

Do ENWorld Polls resolve or prove anything?

A lot of them lately seem to prove someone disagreed with the pollsters definition of something in another thread.

3000+ Spells Compiled into one book

You probably thinking of a different book. This one was completely retyped and reformatted, removing all duplicates. It had compiled spell lists, domains, pantheons and an appendix with stat blocks for every possible summoned monster, animal companion, and familiars. A really amazing, stunning...

What do you think of the faq?

The FAQ document works as a starting point, but in the end it's only another DM's opinion. If anything, it's a good idea to read it over at least once so you can anticipate your own answers for tough DM calls.

Fighting a Dragon at low levels

My number one concern: if you don't know where the dragon's lair is, it won't be worth all the resources you'll need to spend fighting it. Assuming that you have no chance of finding the dragon's treasure, If it costs less than a couple hundred gold per player, you're better off bribing it to go...

D&D 3.x gamers who skipped 4e, why are you not "upgrading" to Pathfinder?

I'm using heavily altered versions of the action point system, 10-minute rests, elite and solo monsters. And "the spine". Love the work there, worth the price even if you never touch the rest of the book.
