D&D 4E 4E boon or bust for Old School support?

Why start an arguement with people with there own publishing interests? If your looking to put alot of preasure on gaming companies and risk deviding the audiance, why not just do it yourself? Wether or not it would be contraversal or a challange, Infact, I'm interested in seeing you're well...

D&D 4E 4E boon or bust for Old School support?

I think it's more that they have questions about the legality of OSRIC, and since they are working with EGG, consider giving his work away for free to be somewhat tasteless. I don't entirely share these views, but I can understand them.

D&D 4E 4E boon or bust for Old School support?

Check the TLG boards for their previous reactions: Peter Bradley (who, along with Sirlern, reps for TLG whether they want him to or not) shuts down all conversation on OSRIC.

The Classic Dragon Reviews - Take 2

This was my first issue of The Dragon. Or technically, the oldest among the first, since I bought it with a few others in the 20's & 30's. At the time I thought it was the weakest issue out of all my purchases, mostly because of the focus on Napoleonics (hey, I was a kid - I barely knew who...

perception of OD&D/AD&D as random deathtraps

I agree. 2001 was a rough year all around for game design. ;)

What do you think so far?

The fluff sounds interesting, the rules sound awful, and the marketing BS (both the official stuff, and the behavior create by the marketing virus) is making me see red. The campaign as "points of light" idea along with dropping the Blood War and other little ideas brings D&D more in line with...

Prediction: 3.5 DMs will *always* find players

I saw an amazing thing a couple of months back. A group of people were playing AD&D 3.5. That is, they had all of the current books, character sheets, D&D minis etc., but watching them actually play? They weren't really using skills, they were rolling d10's for group init., they were playing...

Prediction: 3.5 DMs will *always* find players

As all the kids playing D&D3.x get jobs, build families, etc. it will be harder to find groups. Just as it's getting easier to find AD&D groups now that those players are "settling down" and getting more leisure time, it will start to get easier to find 3.x groups in about 15-20 years. Of...

Do you still use your 3.0 books?

Whoops. Yeah, I use this one. I don't even really consider it 3.anything, since it has so little crunch in it.

Do you still use your 3.0 books?

If I need to convert anything to C&C I usually hit the 1e or 2e books first. If there's something so cool from 3.0 (or 3.5) that's not covered by a previous edition and needs an actual rule around it I'll... hmm. I guess I'll get back to you when that happens.

I hope this isn't too obvious: it's only an added value if it doesn't cost anything. If the price of the books is jacked up, then not using a computer with the game nets a reduced value. I'm pretty turned off at this point. Money grubbing makes my inner mule ornry. I'm starting to feel my...

$70-80 a month for our whole group to keep up with D&D? No. Give me back my dead-tree subscription so we can pass issues around during the pizza break and laugh at the cartoons and talk about the articles. And what was that bit about "In 1st edition, you can fight one troll, in 2nd you can...

Is WoTC even relevant to you anymore?

I think you've got the right idea, only seperate products with unique product numbers should count. D3 and D3 with a full color cover are the same product, but D1 and D1-2 are not. Of course, you may not want to count minis if you're going by SKU. There were a *boatload* of minis produced for...

Is WoTC even relevant to you anymore?

Knowing and KNOWING seem to be two different things. WotC seems to me to be made up of people who play games for a living, not a quick pastime. It's hard to DM a homebrew AD&D game once you get into Real Life (TM). It's near impossible with 3E. There is a philosophy out there that says that 3E...

Is WoTC even relevant to you anymore?

I'm a DM not a player. I'm not relevent to them.
