D&D General In this day and age, people still laugh when you invite them to play D&D.

“Folks in their early to mid 40s” are older millennials. The youngest of gen X are in their late 40s now, and “people in their 20s” are mostly Gen Z. The youngest millennials are still clinging to their late 20s, but that’s not going to hold true for much longer. Anyway, I do think there’s a...

New D&D Unearthed Arcana Reveals Two New Subclasses for Monk and Sorcerer, Plus Revamps For Seven More

Or use the horde rules, but yeah, something to abstract a large number of minions into a more manageable set of stats makes sense.

New D&D Unearthed Arcana Reveals Two New Subclasses for Monk and Sorcerer, Plus Revamps For Seven More

I think the trouble with Conjurer, and this is shared by the Necromancer, is that conceptually they want to be summoning/animating large numbers of minions, but 2024 D&D wants to move away from having a single player control several creatures at once. With the conjure X spells being redesigned...

    D&D General Zero-Prep D&D Game?

I mean... “an intention or decision about what one is going to do” is a very standard definition of plan…

    D&D General Zero-Prep D&D Game?

I mean, even the most prepared DM in the world will still have unexpected things happen due to the input of the dice and the players, as you say. However, I think a well-prepared DM will be better equipped to come up with an appropriate response to an unexpected situation than an unprepared one...

    D&D General Zero-Prep D&D Game?

Which is why I didn’t say improvising requires planning, I said it’s making and executing a plan simultaneously. If you didn’t have a plan you would be acting randomly. Good improvisation does follow a plan, it’s just a plan made up as you go.

D&D General Rogue as Assassin and Rogue as Jack

Shows what I know about WoW then lol

    D&D General Zero-Prep D&D Game?

I think going truly zero-prep is a fool’s errand. Even a hypothetical perfect improviser can only ever produce something of approximately equal quality to a well-planned adventure, because improvising is just planning and executing the plan at the same time. It’s better, in my opinion, to focus...

D&D General Rogue as Assassin and Rogue as Jack

I agree with the core idea - rogue has long had an identity crisis between the AD&D style boxman who’s there to crack locks and disable traps but isn’t really cut out for a fair fight and has to rely on cheap tricks to contribute to combat, vs the WoW style DPS king who’s squishy but rips...

D&D General Would Mercer’s Bloodhunter be balanced with no self harm damage?

I have never had a blood hunter in my campaign, but taking your word for it that they feel underpowered with the self-damage, I suspect it may have been included purely as a flavor feature, rather than a balancing factor. If so, and if they are in need of a boost, I would be more inclined to...

D&D 5E (2014) Dragon Age lead says Baldur’s Gate 3 and Clair Obscur prove publishers wrong as games can crush market trends is they’re “given time to cook”

That’s one way the term is used. It’s consistent within that context because they’re consistently complaining about the same thing in that context. But the term gets used differently in different contexts. Ben Shapiro famously defines it as “a belief that our nation is founded on racism, sexism...

D&D 5E (2014) Dragon Age lead says Baldur’s Gate 3 and Clair Obscur prove publishers wrong as games can crush market trends is they’re “given time to cook”

The term is much older than that. It originated from AAVE, and originally meant being aware of systemic social issues - essentially, class conscious. That is a pretty overbought explanation, but it is at least closer to the original meaning than how it eventually came to be used by the...

D&D General My newest Dnd artwork! enjoy! (no AI)

Haha I thought I noticed the fangs but I was like “that doesn’t make any sense, it’s broad daylight in the piece.” Explains the red eyes too!

D&D 5E (2024) Could the DnDNext Sorcerer be revived as its own class?

It wouldn’t have only had to turn into a melee character, nor would it only have had to gain monstrous traits. The fundamental mechanic of using the willpower/sorcery point pool as a logic gate to turn abilities on or off at certain threshold values is incredibly versatile. For example, maybe...

D&D General Which Ranger Companion Solution Do You Prefer/Use

Assuming what I think is “best” and what I actually use are two different things, which would be more in line with the intent of the question for me to answer with?

D&D 5E (2024) Using general Feats when your ability is already 20

I think the wording is clear. “Your Charisma score increases by 1, to a maximum of 20.” Nothing about it says you can’t take the feat, you just miss out on the increase, since you’re already at the maximum of 20.

D&D 5E (2024) What Should a Psion Be Able To Do?

Pretty solid list at a skim. There are a few inclusions that I probably wouldn’t have chosen and I assume my own list would probably have a few you wouldn’t have chosen. But, the basic idea is there.
