    D&D 4E Piracy and 4e

The problem here is a confusion of economics and ethics. With regards to economics the goal is always to maximize utility, regardless of ethics. That means that there is nothing economically wrong with piracy[1], because no utility is lost and some utility is gained. [1] = So long as this does...

    The Controller Role Doesn't Exist

It always seemed to me like putting the Wizard alone in a Controller role was to help Wizard players feel better about getting nerfed into the ground. I have no problem with that of course, but people get melodramatic on Gleemax about it. Basically, I don't think a group with two strikers and...

    Best class/role for solo play

I agree with Paladins or Rangers. Paladins do decent damage, have good defenses, and have some minor healing powers. A TWF Ranger would be exceptional for dealing with mooks if the Stormwarden PP is any indication.

That is made of win (for the DM).

    17 days of Shadowfell?

KotS is the trial version for WotC's new line. If it sucks, they'll lose a lot of sales. ++

    Winterhaven Capsule Hotels

Same. The thing is, towns are a pain in the butt to actually try and stat out.

    Paladins mark "fix" a plazebo?

I think the WotC fix is better. Not being able to attack others screws with OAs and generally prevents the character from making sound tactical decisions. As long as the enemy can attack the Paladin (the Paladin is adjacent to them), let him use his melee powers on something else. This fix...

    Paladins mark "fix" a plazebo?

On the contrary Derren, I would have been very annoyed if the "fix" required the Paladin to make melee attacks. You feel that it goes against the Paladin's role as a defender if the player does not stay in melee... but that is its own punishment; the roles exist because they are useful. You...

I'm not sure I like that.

D&D 4E Will the 4E classes be deliberately unbalanced to get players to read?

So... 1. I want choices to be relatively balanced. 2. You want to be able to make a character suck at combat. Therefore: 3. I'm the simulationist? Your logic is astounding. Edit: Same here. I don't think "saving throw" and "reflex defense," I think "reflex save."

    D&D 4E Point buy, 4e & you.

Actually a point system (by definition) encourages flat, uninteresting stat blocks. Le /cry?

D&D 4E 4e playtest report...my effort to convert our group

Sure you do. You want to hit the Wizard before he completes his spell, not the random mook dancing around between the two of you.

D&D 4E Will the 4E classes be deliberately unbalanced to get players to read?

I don't think it makes sense for WotC to cater to the people that want to suck, even when it's not necessary to create a given character combination.

D&D 4E Will the 4E classes be deliberately unbalanced to get players to read?

Use point buy to obtain crappy combat stats. Edit: Note that even this is harder to do, now that they've fiddled with defense calculation...

D&D 4E Will the 4E classes be deliberately unbalanced to get players to read?

Yeah, I just feel like doubling the given number was a misleading simplification. That, and I'm an Economics major.

D&D 4E Will the 4E classes be deliberately unbalanced to get players to read?

This. Calculating with respect to hits is statistically flawed because what you need to hit varies. Everything outside of the crit instance is sunk. We roll a 1: the feat does nothing. We roll a 15: the feat does nothing. We roll a 20: the feat does something. 1/20 is our starting modifier...

I'm don't necessarily disagree, but expense would be a realistic hurdle in many cases.
