    Fallout: worth picking up?

I can't recall if this is different in Fallout 1, but in Fallout 2 you can have more than one companion, but it's based on your Charisma. If you dismiss someone, they stand there, and you can go back and get them again. Science is used primarily for computers, so you probably just haven't seen...

    [August] What are you playing?

I'm only about 1/3 of the way through, but it's pretty good. It has some pretty hefty system requirements, tho. Pick up the expansion at the same time, it makes some good improvements over the original. I got both for $30 on Steam.

    [August] What are you playing?

Just picked up Titan Quest and the expansion. It is Diablo II set in ancient Greece. Not like Diablo II, it is Diablo II. Some minor improvements and gameplay changes (new classes/powers mostly), but I liked Diablo II so this has been OK.

    Fallout: worth picking up?

It plays fine on XP, but you might see some weirdness on the overland map that results in you either getting way to many or way too few random encounters. I forget which. The Killapp patch I mentioned above does fix that. Your buddies have lousy fire-control. If you give them full automatic...

    Fallout: worth picking up?

I just finished replaying Fallout 2. While the game is great, it is BUGGY. Not "Temple of Elemental Evil" buggy, but still not great. Lots of little things are messed up, some quests can't be completed properly. For the most part, it's fine, but annoying. Fortunately, I found a fan-made patch...

    Less death, more "dying"

I should clarify this, as it's the major problem with the -Con house rule. Poison that does Con damage changes your negative HP. A PC with a 10 Con who takes 6 points of Con damage looses 3 HP per level AND dies at -4. That'll kill a lot of low hp characters flat out. We didn't realize it until...

    Less death, more "dying"

IMC, it's -10 or -Con score (not mod), whichever is better. It started as -Con, but we quickly changed that after an encounter with a fairly basic poison dart trap which would have killed a PC outright via HP loss. Actually, I like Nifft's -10+HD rule better, I might steal that. You could...

What exactly is a "ravenous" zombie?

Ravenous Zombies appeared in the Savage Tide AP (Dungeon Magazine), in the adventure There is No Honor. I believe Echohawk is right about the original source and abilities. That's basically them in a nutshell.

    Here's a tool that I use a lot:

You like it well enough to pimp it on the internet, but not pay for it? Anyway, there are a lot of free heirarchical notepads out there in case you feel bad about stealing but still don't want to pay. Keynote is older but has a ton of features. http://www.tranglos.com/free/keynote.html Jreepad...

I'd like to start a blog

They all keep all your posts, but LJ is not particularly good for going back and seeing previous posts. Wordpress and blogger are better for that. Just be sure you name your posts properly, and use tags to describe them. That makes finding old ones much better. You might also check out google...

I'd like to start a blog

LJ is part blog with a little bit of social networking. If you've got friends on LJ, it works pretty well. If you just want a straight old blog, Blogger/Blogspot is a good one. Takes about 1 minute to get it up and running if you've already got a gmail account. Both of those host the blog for...

    Diagramming Software?

Well, a non-upgrade version of Visio Standard 2007 costs about $250, so I think it's perfectly reasonable to ask around for free alternatives first. That said, you can probably pick up Visio 2003 for a lot cheaper, like $100. Make sure you find one with a full license, not just visio "media"...

Open door as part of a move

I don't want it to be realistic. I want it to be fun. The question was asked after a session in a manor house where pretty much all the doors were closed. The party was split up and moving in tactical time from room to room, and they just found it annoying more than anything else. Move up to a...

Open door as part of a move

One of my players suggested allowing characters to open doors as part of a move action instead of as a separate move action. It would consume movement, say 10'. Obviously, these are unlocked, unobstructed doors with very simple latches that are designed to be opened easily and quickly, like the...

    Lightweight spreadsheet?

There are a few here: http://freshmeat.net/browse/78/ Some are Unix only, and most aren't actually spreadsheets, but there are a few that look like they'll run on windows (especially the Java based "OS Independant" ones).

Help! I lost interest in my campaign... again!

Have you asked them for input? Players, not characters. Not "where do you go now that you killed the BBEG" but "Hey guys, I'd like you to drive the story for a while. What kind of thing do you want to do next?" They may not realize it's OK to ask.

    Computer Upgrade Time

Woah, Home doesn't support dual CPUs? It sounds like it doesn't support two physical processors, and most new computers are dual-core (one physical processor) at the moment. I'd really like some clarification there...
