    Older video cards with Vista

This one seemed pretty good too. It gives a clear OK/FAIL status for each item, and you can use it to track the status over time. http://www.passmark.com/products/diskcheckup.htm

    Older video cards with Vista

I think it's under Hardware-Storage and then the hard drive. The SMART stauts should say "yes" and then it will list a bunch of data. Actually, it's pretty cryptic. Normally the SMART status is either PASS or FAIL. You might want to find a different program that summarizes things better. SIW is...

    Making your own power cards

These power cards look awesome. I don't suppose there's someone willing to distill this 26 page thread into a short wiki article? Like a little tutorial on how to use the card templates? I've sketched out a rough article already so that people can add links to templates (and not have to sift...

    Older video cards with Vista

Well, worst case, I think you'd have to reinstall Windows XP, but I'm sure it's solvable. You should get a tool like SIW ( http://www.gtopala.com/ ) and use it to check your hard drive's SMART status, if possible. It'll give you a good idea if the drive is going to die. If you do end up going...

    Older video cards with Vista

Wow, you're running Vista on a motherboard so old it doesn't have even have PCI-Express? Yeesh. What's the processor? Is it a former server or something? Nvidia does not offer Vista drivers for their GeForce 4 series, so you're basically out of luck on that front. That you've gotten this far is...

D&D 4E What would it take to remove the short rest from 4e?

I think Happy Funball nailed it. As long as you wave your hands and say "fight's over", they may as well get the effects of a short rest. They also don't technically have to rest, I think. They can spend 5 minutes looting, identifying magic, or even running away, and I think it would be fine.

What are the key thematic elements of the Druid Class?

For me, the druid is definately a controller. Sure they can heal in other editions, but that's really secondary to everything else that they do. They probably should not be as damage-focused as the wizard, but they have a lot of terrain and weather based effects that affect multiple targets...

    July '08: Now Playing?

I was lucky enough to pick up some free copies of Lost Planet, GRAW and Serious Sam 2, so I'll be playing those... as soon as I finish HL2 (again).

How could earlier edition druid spells be converted?

Your best bet for converting spells is to try and preserve the "feel" of the spell rather than the actuall elements. As long as you have the feel, it doesn't matter exactly what the area is or how much damage it does, as long as it's on par with the other classes' powers. I strongly lean...

    Why'd they change the Lamia?

Note that lamias can be male too. I noticed a definite trend away from "female only" type monsters. Harpys, medusas, succubi and lamias are all mixed gender now. As far as I can tell, only the Hag is still a female-only monster, but there might be a couple fey. I think that's part of a general...

    Firefox 3 Annoyance

It is possible to customize how the awesomebar makes suggestions. That could make it more tollerable, depending on how you want to use it. http://lifehacker.com/396603/tweak-the-awesomebars-suggestion-algorithm

    Firefox 3 Annoyance

That doesn't seem to be the case for me. Both ctrl-click and middle click work normally. I had some unrelated wonkyness in my FF3 profile after upgrading from 2 (wasn't remembering that I was logged in to things), so I made a fresh profile and that took care of the issue. Might be worth a shot.

A tiny die roller designed to be unobtrusive UPDATE 6/23/08 v2.11

I like the small profile. Have you considered a version that has no buttons but only takes the die roll in text form? In other words, you just type in 4d6+3, hit enter and get the result. Clicking in the text box would have to automatically select the text to make it faster to type in.

    Need a new Laptop

I think today might be the last day you can do that, at least with Dell.

Please do NOT reply to spam messages

I might be wrong, but it looks like most spam appears in sub-forums where the name is "guessable" or common among multiple forum sites. Maybe you should rename "meta" to "meta-game"?

    Need a new Laptop

Personally, I do like Dell. I have a Latitude, their business focused line, but my dad and a couple friends have Vostros that they got really cheap and are working out well. The hardware has been good so far, and I hear their customer support is better than average (statistically, YMMV). I like...

Im looking for a simple yet specific program dealing with music.

I know with WinAMP and WMP you can save a playlist as a file, so then you can just put your gaming playlists into a folder and double-click them to start the songs. In iTunes, you can probably use the Search box to find a playlist quickly. What program are you currently using?

Im looking for a simple yet specific program dealing with music.

iTunes, Windows Media Player, WinAMP, Songbird... Basically every decent media player has the ability to make a playlist and shuffle it. You might need to look in the help documentation on exactly how to do that, but most of the time it's just a matter of adding all the songs to the current...

    Project management software

You could look at Mind Mapping software. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mind_mapping_software There are also a number of tools targeted at writers that might do what you want.
