Need ideas for an interesting Necromacncer type

I ran a fellow a few years back who'd had an interesting take on the whole "necromancer" thing. A patriot and nobleman from Karrnath (Eberron nation who, overwhelmed during a large war, resorted to raising dead to supplement their armies), Ulrich was originally a martial fellow with a fondness...

More than Claw-Claw-Bite (CURRENT: The Desiccator)

More than Claw-Claw-Bite (CURRENT: The Desiccator)

I've had some free time lately, and I've been looking through some of my lesser-used (or lesser-read) sourcebooks. This past weekend, it was Libris Mortis, which I'd barely browsed through after I picked it up. Life gets busy sometimes. Anyway, I really liked some of the stuff I saw in there...

Tome of Battle: Book of 9 Swords - Things to watch out for?

I actually almost agree with the last bit of your statement... except that I don't agree magic classes should win. More powerful, yes - but I also think they should be weaker in areas they haven't specialized in than non-magical characters are. That's not really Bo9S related, though, so I'm...

Tome of Battle: Book of 9 Swords - Things to watch out for?

Probably a bit of both. :) I tended to agree with most of your breakdowns of how each school could be fit into a "more standard" paradigm (not all, but most.) What I suspect I'll end up doing is changing the ones I feel I can, and leaving some of them (Shadow Hand comes to mind,) but have the...

Tome of Battle: Book of 9 Swords - Things to watch out for?

Gotcha. I use it a bit more generally - covers both mechanics and feel. :) Yeah, I expected that - which is why I haven't just striken out the blatantly mystical ones and said "here goes, go ahead and play with the reduced list." In many cases, I suspect I'll be able to make relatively small...

Tome of Battle: Book of 9 Swords - Things to watch out for?

Well, yeah. That's what I said at the bottom of my post. :p Still, that is I think part of the issue that springs up. In my current game, I've got one guy who really wants a swordsage, but because I don't have the time to devote to both prep and changing the style a bit, I put my foot down...

Tome of Battle: Book of 9 Swords - Things to watch out for?

I think part of the misconception, Nifft, lies in how you view the martial adepts, versus how Rystil (or, I think, myself) view them. While they're certainly effective martial combatants, when people talk about them destroying traditional fighter-types, they're not talking about the mechanical...

    Increasing teleport's carrying capacity.

Right, except that people aren't counted as weight for the purposes of teleportation spells, so that doesn't matter. The weight of a person only matters with those spells if they're an object - ie, dead.

    Dead in one blow

I don't know if I agree entirely, but I can certainly sympathize with the sentiment. I've been considering modifying crits to require an action point to confirm - which would mean PCs and BBEGs-only. Unfortunately, one of the guys in my game is a keen rapier wielding swashbuckler-style fellow...

Does Damage Reduction Actually NOT Negate Damage from Touch Attacks???

Other than "they update the SRD how often?" I mean, in all fairness, Nifft, it's not like it gets errata'd that often. (For what it's worth, I play it like EyeOfTheMountain.)

Something about the exclamation point made that seem very inspirational. "Admins," Prime says, "roll out!" ;) (Yeah, yeah. Keeping the thread clean, deleting the post. I got it. No problem. Just laugh first, 'k?)

    Potterdammerung: Prepared?

I voted on "waiting 'till later," but it's not entirely accurate. My girlfriend ordered her copy from Amazon and it should be here tomorrow, and knowing her, it'll be done by Saturday night/Sunday morning... when I get to swipe it. :) And I don't mind waiting a day, especially since we both...

IMPORTANT! Is your new Community Supporter Account not working?

Just renewed today, and I'm not having any luck. No real hurry - I've got a week before I need to go dig up threads on creepiness and horror. And by "need," I mean that in the sense of "c'mon, daddy needs a new pair of dice!" gamer-style addiction. ;)

    Wizards Win, Fighters Drool?

I've seen in several places lately (most recently in the Experiences with None-Core Characters thread) some comments about video game mechanics cropping up in D&D. In this case, the commentary was specifically about the PHB2 Knight's taunt style abilities that force people to target him, and...

    Passing notes at the table

Voted yes, but it's slightly tempered. I run an online game, currently (with the same group of folks that used to play in my local game, before I moved halfway 'cross the country,) using Fantasy Grounds. So there are no actual "notes," and more "private messages." But players can only send...

While it certainly steps outside the bounds of the core rules, Blue Devil Games' Poisoncraft is an excellent resource to consider if your player is planning to make poison a major aspect of his character.
