How long is the typical tabletop session?

My sessions are scheduled for 5 hours (7pm-midnight). We usually waste the first hour (I'm trying to solve that problem), and we usually run late until 12:30 at least.

Anyone using a tablet at the gaming table?

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I just bought a Motion Computing LE1600 (near new) off of Ebay. Even getting additional RAM it fell into my price range. I've heard good things about these and they are very light, I'll let everyone know how it changes my gaming experience!

Anyone using a tablet at the gaming table?

I was hoping someone could recommend a $1000-1500 tablet somewhere but I keep looking and not finding one, even used :p

Anyone using a tablet at the gaming table?

Sorry when I said gaming I meant 'tabletop gaming'. I have a dedicated PC for PC gaming and other home PC use, and I have a high powered laptop for work.

Anyone using a tablet at the gaming table?

My main problem with a tablet is that I have a lot of computers as it is, and it likely wouldn't do double duty outside of gaming and web surfing purposes, so I don't want to spend $2K for a laptop I use so infrequently. During a session I'll likely use for: 1) Searching PDFs/rulebooks 2)...

Which tablet are you using and do you recommend that model?

Knowledge:Local... What is meant by Local?

Another good reason for option 3 is that it provides a synergy bonus with Gather Info. Having to apply that conditionally would become a cumbersome game mechanic.

Anyone using a tablet at the gaming table?

I have long avoided using my laptop at the gaming table because of the distraction factor. But it occurs to me a tablet PC might be the ideal accessory. It'd be like having a book with the whole SRD, as well as all my notes and utilities closeat hand. Unfortunately tablets on a whole are...

Tougher Monsters - dealing with SR and Good saves

For 10th/11th level wizard there should be no way they are only getting a 20 DC on their 5th level spells. You get all those bonus feats for a reason. He should definitely have done spell focus/imp spell focus in a school. On top of that he should have an item that boosts his INT at least by...

I'm stocked for life! (But what if no one cares?)

I think it will depend a lot on whether 4th edition goes the way of previous editions of D&D (i.e. not throwing the baby out with the bathwater). I think an example of where a previously exisiting version was still viable was with Battletech, where the core game was thrown out of the window...

Whats going on in your game?

I'm running a homebrew world with lots of stuff stolen from everywhere. In my game, good ol Diamond Lake is a mining town for Ptolus. The party just worked their way through the better part of 'Three Faces of Evil', only with a substantially different end game. Deep below the town they...

WotC Replies: Statements by WotC employees regarding Dragon/Dungeon going online

It's not about two magazines. This is not just about the death of Dungeon and Dragon. The assumption is that a change much greater than that is on the horizon, and there isn't a lot of info on what that is, nor faith that it will be good for the core fanbase of D&D. There are a lot of...

Pathfinder 1E Paizo no longer publishing Dungeon and Dragon

Like many others I am really hurt by this decision. I looked forward to Dungeon every month, and read it slowly so that I wouldn't have too many days where it wasn't an option of something to read. The latest Savage Tide Path made for great reading, whether you used the adventures directly or...

    Basic GM mistakes

    58) Here's one that always gets me when I'm DM'ing. It's especially possible for this to happen when running a published adventure and you have an unorthodox party makeup. Think about what challenges you want major encounters to give the party, and plan accordingly. As nice as the EL and CR...

April Fools issues (Humor in your games)

I have never used any 'humor rules' but I do remember with great fondness an old issue of Dragon that featured such wonders as 'Noguard' the ultimate last adventure for superpowered characters, as well as the famous 'Wandering Damage Table'. Anyone remember this issue? I used to own it but it...

Do you live in a good gamer city?

Ever since I began gaming ago about 6 years ago, I have never had too much trouble finding a player or a group, here in New York City. But there are some drawbacks. The biggest one is finding space to play. Apartments are small here for most people and the few more public spaces charge money...

Who's the greatest specialist of them all?

Wow, no love for enchanters? Admittedly they have some weaknesses, the biggest being that their core spells are useless against some types of enemies, like constructs and undead. On the plus side though they possess some of the most devestating spells in the game. Feeblemind might be the most...

    Other PC death=Not fun

I found one of the worst parts of character death in D&D is the whole element of getting raised. What I mean is, being able to raise dead characters means that the drama of dying isn't quite so dramatic, especially at higher levels. There is no weeping or dramatic funereal orations. Instead...

An article on (computer) game reviews

As a hardcore gamer, I would agree with the second article (Videogame Journalism Sucks) a lot more than the first article. The first article does make some good points. Often you get the feeling that online reviewers do not finish the games the play. You also frequently see reviewers not...
