    Where be the single-classed goodness?

Are you including prestige classes? Personally, I would never multiclass an arcane spellcasting class unless it was a prestige class with an equivelent spell progression. Otherwise you just nerf yourself too much. On the other hand, I'm suprised anyone would consider a class like barbarian a...

Should Campaign Settings include a metaplot?

I vote no. Metaplots are just an excuse to push users of the setting to keep buying new material to keep up. I haven't followed any traditional D&D settings closely, but I do remember back in the day I was a big fan of Battletech. They had a great setting with 5 waring houses and technology...

    Dnd Index

Looks like the guy who originally posted it hasn't been on since November. If someone wants to gather the data I'll be happy to build a searchable database and host it up :D

Playing the crazed wizard of the party

That was my impression too. I wouldn't even join a gaming group at 4 levels behind the average party level, sorry. I echo what a few others have said. It's great if you and your group are having fun. Sounds like the new guy didn't. I know I definitely wouldn't. Probably takes a certain...

    How do you pronounce "Kyuss"?

All these years of being a fan of the band Kyuss, I always assumed the name must have been from mythology somewhere, but according to wikipedia, they actually named themselves after the D&D Kyuss. And they pronounce it the RIGHT way, (like pious, above)

    Am I a Mean DM?

While killing a player is not being a meany, I would have some questions about your game. I too would be a little dismayed at the '13 sessions, 2nd level' thing, even the biggest roleplayers in my group bitch about not getting to higher levels quicker. In addition, I know that as a player I...

Fantasy and Science Fiction ~ What separates them from 'normal' literature?

While I agree with most of Nisarg's points, I do think he's not giving some contemporary genre fiction enough credit. There are some excellent, literary writers working in the prime in the Fantasy and Sci-fi fields and to ignore them wouldn't be doing the genre question. Three that come to...

    Lizardmen and EL question

I have a player who may be playing a Lizardman character, and I want to make sure I have the EL stuff straight. According to the SRD and Monster manual: Lizardfolk characters possess the following racial traits. — +2 Strength, +2 Constitution, –2 Intelligence. —Medium size. —A lizardfolk’s...

    D&D 3.x Litany of 3.5 rules questions

Yeah I realized that afterwards. Reguardless, the scenario I described is still quite plausable. I have a 4th level PC in my game that has a +12 in Ride, so he could do it more often than not.

    D&D 3.x Litany of 3.5 rules questions

Dismounting as a free action is a DC 20 ride check, with no drawbacks if it fails. Thus a pretty good rider could take 10 and do this automatically. It's not so much gamebreaking but rather it exists in contradiction to the game model. If a horse takes a double move it is assumed that all 6...

    D&D 3.x Litany of 3.5 rules questions

My main concern here would be (and this is something that happend), is the horse makes a double move, then the passenger, who has a later initiative, gets off the horse and takes another double move, thus essentially being able to make two moves in one round, which is clearly not correct.

    D&D 3.x Litany of 3.5 rules questions

Here's a list of things that came up in my last session and I'm wondering what the official call is on them: 1) A player gets knocked unconcious while on a horse (that wasn't moving that turn). How do you determine if he falls off? Also, if the horse is an animal companion, would that make a...

What have you done on your dying turn?

I had a player with a 2nd level monk at 0 hit points ready an action to attack the raging 3rd level orc barbarian if he attacked him. The orc attacked, and the monk staggered the orc with his blow. I ruled that since the readied action went first, the orc could change his mind about attacking...

    Nyc Flgs?

Yeah, it'll be cold, bring some warm clothes. You might want to check out Neutral Ground http://www.neutralground.com/Stores/NYC/Home.asp It's more of a gaming center, than a store, but still interesting. There are also a large number of comic book stores, including Forbidden Planet and Jim...

Anything wrong with just playing D&D?

These food analogies are really, really bad, as they really are SO un-analogous to D&D that they are logically inappropriate. That being said, I think if you're in high school, or independently wealthy, or whatever, and are into gaming, then I would highly recommend trying other systems, since...

Randomling's Dungeoncraft Diary (my players out!!)

Even with a few islands revolting, it may make for less interesting gameplay to have the whole archipelago essentially under the rule of one benevolent monarch. What about if the Queen had just died, and the game actually started during the coronation celebration of her very young daughter...

    Character Death from DM perspective

I have to chime in on the level loss issue. I played in a campaign where the DM made an artifact available to the party at a low level that could raise dead once every few weeks (we had to go on a long quest for it), because he wanted to keep the party together throughout the campaign. My...

    NYC Gameday

Again, as someone who lives in NYC I'd be curious about this, IF I KNEW WHAT IT WAS. Would someone like to explain it?
