Is it O.K. for the DM to kill a character when the player isn't there?

In our group, if a player is absent, the rest of the group take shared custody of his character, and that character can die just like any other. However, we tend to play that character a bit more carefully and keep him more in the background than usual. While we don't consider it unfair per se...

D&D 4E Top Ten Signs D&D4e is Coming

For me, WotC announcing a book called Complete Scoundrel beats everything!

Help me pick a cohort for an 11th lvl warlock!

Maybe a combination of these two? A celestial succubus with a level of consort? :p

Help me pick a cohort for an 11th lvl warlock!

Get a cohort that can cast both Cure spells and Magic Missile; has a good selection of useful skills and decent combat abilities, and who can buff the entire party in one go. IOW, get a bard.

Who's happy about MMV being MMIV again?

I used to buy every monster book WotC released. I've got the MM1, MM2, MM3, FF, MoF, Draconomicon, Libris Mortis, Lords of Madness and Fiendish Codex. I even have the two Scarred Lands Creature Collections, even if I've never played in that setting. But I didn't buy MM4. I liked the Knowledge...

    Don't worry, they won't! :p

    Vikings D20

A lot has happened with Vikings D20 since I made that post you're quoting there. For one thing, the first Vikings book will have roughly twice as many pages as I said back then.

    Vikings D20

I know! :heh: I so wish I had more time on my hands, so I could finish this. And start on the next book... :uhoh:

    Vikings D20

No offence Rikandur, but I don't really want to look at anubody else's idea of what the Norse dwarves should be (not until the book is out, anyway). Through the entire project I've avoided reading other RPG books; instead I've been concentrating on reading the Norse sagas and taking my...

Metamorphosis: From Dretch to Demon Lord - Ascension Released!

Glad to hear it, BD! :D It'll be cool to read more about Yaghur Hod, which is of course a particular favorite of mine...

Generic term for a type of god or spirit

According to the old Scandinavian folklore, there are a huge number of different types of vettir. Some live down in the earth; others inside mountains. But there's also vette variants that live in water; one of which lives only in rivers, another only in lakes, and several that can only be found...

Generic term for a type of god or spirit

The Vikings refered to such creatures as vettir.(pl.) (sing: vette)

    Kitchen Sink Settings

It's close to how I've been doing things. I've rejected a few things, but most of it have been used or could be used one day. This does not include setting specific books, though. I've not use anything Eberron related, and only very little from the FR books.

WotC News - Is this for real???

Just saw this: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/news/20061103a "Complete Scoundrel" - are they messing with us, or are they going for the Lamest RPG Book Title Ever Award?

    Title for Female Knights

A historical example coming right up, although I'm not to sure how well it suits your setting: Female Viking warriors were called shieldmaidens / shieldmays. An exceptionally skilled shieldmay could even be given the honorific Valkyrie. FWIW.

Metamorphosis: From Dretch to Demon Lord - Ascension Released!

Great update as always, BD! I'm thrilled to see the story continue. :D And that Yaghur Hod's story continues at the same time made it extra exciting! To me, at least... ;)

    D&D Character Quiz

Lawful Neutral Elven Bard Not a character would have thought of playing, but maybe I should try it some time..? :uhoh:

Are you a DM/GM, player or both?

I've been playing with the same group since 3.0 came out, and I've probably been the DM for more than 90% of the time. I wish I could get to be a player more of the time, though, since I enjoy both experiences very much.

    Need Ridiculous Monster

I remember that one! :p It was written by Monte Cook, while he was still with WotC. It is actually the only ready-made module I've ever used. As a humorous side-adventure in a long campaing, it was excellent! Especially when the fighter slashed through the crust and was sprayed by hot tomato...
