In our group, if a player is absent, the rest of the group take shared custody of his character, and that character can die just like any other. However, we tend to play that character a bit more carefully and keep him more in the background than usual. While we don't consider it unfair per se...

Get a cohort that can cast both Cure spells and Magic Missile; has a good selection of useful skills and decent combat abilities, and who can buff the entire party in one go. IOW, get a bard. :cool:

I used to buy every monster book WotC released. I've got the MM1, MM2, MM3, FF, MoF, Draconomicon, Libris Mortis, Lords of Madness and Fiendish Codex. I even have the two Scarred Lands Creature Collections, even if I've never played in that setting. But I didn't buy MM4. I liked the Knowledge...

A lot has happened with Vikings D20 since I made that post you're quoting there. For one thing, the first Vikings book will have roughly twice as many pages as I said back then. :eek:

According to the old Scandinavian folklore, there are a huge number of different types of vettir. Some live down in the earth; others inside mountains. But there's also vette variants that live in water; one of which lives only in rivers, another only in lakes, and several that can only be found...

The Vikings refered to such creatures as vettir.(pl.) (sing: vette)

It's close to how I've been doing things. I've rejected a few things, but most of it have been used or could be used one day. This does not include setting specific books, though. I've not use anything Eberron related, and only very little from the FR books.

A historical example coming right up, although I'm not to sure how well it suits your setting: Female Viking warriors were called shieldmaidens / shieldmays. An exceptionally skilled shieldmay could even be given the honorific Valkyrie. FWIW.

I've been playing with the same group since 3.0 came out, and I've probably been the DM for more than 90% of the time. I wish I could get to be a player more of the time, though, since I enjoy both experiences very much.

I remember that one! :p It was written by Monte Cook, while he was still with WotC. It is actually the only ready-made module I've ever used. As a humorous side-adventure in a long campaing, it was excellent! Especially when the fighter slashed through the crust and was sprayed by hot tomato...
