Does your setting have Magic Shops

I figure that as long as valuables exists (such as magic items), someone will start buying and selling with them. So there are some magic shops in my homebrew, yes. Mostly though, arcane guilds/orders and temples are the places to go if you need a particular item.

    What book to get?

I'd strongly recommend LoM! Great book; almost as good as Draconomicon! :D I've never used aberrations much in my campaigns, but after reading LoM I got the inspiration for several long campaings revolving around them!

    Low Magic Settings?

Try Vikings D20! While it not published yet, it very soon will be.

    Help on a New Artifact

If it absorbs two Rings of Protection +1, does it function as a Ring of Protection +2? That could soon make the ring a game-breaker, you know... (Doesn't really sound like that's what you have in mind, but I just want to make sure.) Assuming we're on the same page about that, I think you might...

Cloaks, rings, robes, hats, bucklers, and codpieces.

The five players I DM all have their distinctive views on character dress codes: There's the guy who always plays either an elven wizard or a low-int paladin. Either way, his PCs are always dressed to impress: Silk clothes, plenty of jewelry etc. More than once I've seen him refuse to wear a...

    What crunch have you used?

Core books, obviously. 3.0 splat books (feats, PrCs and spells) Monster Manual II & III (critters) Epic Level Handbook (everything) Draconomicon (everything) Libris Mortis (a little of everything) Manual of the Planes (critters and spells) Planar Handbook (mainly the fluff, but a few...

WAAHOO! D&D Gone Wild. What Do You Do For Fill-In Games?

We've played Magic; the Gathering. We've had a spontaneously generated one-night D&D adventure, where all the PCs were goblins. We've designed truely weird; yet strangely fascinating, prestige classes... Lately though, we've been playtesting/brainstorming either Vikings D20 or the RPG system...

DMs: Fight to Win or Fight for Fun?

Your undead knew he was fighting a lost battle. He saw the chance to take at least one enemy with him, and he took it. Makes sense to me!

What oddities have made it into your game?

I'm gonna remember those quotes! Now, if only one of my players would cast Speak with Animals... I don't think the spell has ever been used in any of my campaigns; it seems my players don't like druids much.

Which race is the LEAST masculine?

I almost voted dwarf (you all realize those big beards are just clip-ons, right? :p ), but in the end I just couldn't get my self to not vote elf. On a side note, this thread has now made me want to try making a real macho-elf character. (Grey-elf barbarians are under-rated! :p )

    Vikings D20

Thanx! Constructive criticism is always welcome, of course. As Le said in his post, that version of the cover is just a prototype. We'll keep your advice in mind when working out the final version.

So, how do you keep'em from just 'porting away?

What is it that is so lousy about having to present high-level characters with challenges that are different from the challenges that you present to low-level characters? I've heard this very same complaint from so many DMs, and every time it sounds very much to me like their real problem is...

So, how do you keep'em from just 'porting away?

My advise would be that if the PCs can cast Teleport, start using a different sort of plot! What works for a low-level campaign, doesn't neccessarily work for a mid/high-level campaign. Once the party reaches level 10 (roughly), you need to change gear a little. A lot of what used to be...

    Vikings D20

Actually, I'm not sure. Le provided that picture, but I absolutely agree that it's really good! I particularly like the scenery in the background, it definitely says "Norway" to me. The ships and and the Vikings are good too. The artist hasn't gotten nearly as many things wrong as you usually...

    Vikings D20

Wow, time sure flies when you're having fun! :heh: As you say, it's August and the book is not yet out. I apologize deeply for the dealy, to all of you who is waiting so patiently. All sorts of things have been stealing my time, and the book has grown a good deal longer than I had originally...

    Would/Do You Wear A D&D T-shirt In Public?

If I had won, I'd wear it! I have a Magic the Gathering t-shirt I used to wear a lot, but it's all faded and worn-out now. I'm still holding on to it though, for old times' sake. :D

Would you give your 2nd level party 30 thousand gold?

I voted yes. I've done "worse" than that myself as a DM. I never worry about how much stash the PCs have. There are times when they have way too much for their level and there are times when they have too little. It's no big deal. If I feel they are overpowered for their level, I just up the...

What monster killed your first PC?

My first character, a half-elf sor/clr, managed to survive long enough to reach lvl 8 before he was slowly beaten to death by a drider clr. It was just those two, beating at each other with their maces. Both had high AC, so there was a lot of misses and the fight was long and dramatic. We both...

    Best Magic System

I know I'm shamelessly tooting my own horn here now, but I'm really very pleased with the spellpoint-based runic spellcasting system from Vikings D20! It seems ideal for low-magic d20 games, but simply increasing the amount of spellpoints/mana per day should make it useable for more...

Man, I miss the days of good, solid, utilitarian Prestige Classes

They never should have called them "prestige" classes in the first place, IMHO. "Specialized" classes or something like that would have been much better; then we wouldn't get all this outrage about there not being enough prestige in this or that prestige class. :p
