Happily, my group has never acted anything like what you desribe. Sure, they enjoy getting cool stuff, but they care a lot more about their characters' than about their loot. They'll give away their most powerful items to NPCs without hesitation, if it makes sense for the characterto do so.

Our longest-lasting battle took one up whole 8-hour session, then continued for another 6 hours the next session. :confused: That was in an epic game, though. I voted 45 - 60 min. for 6-9 level battles, since you asked about major battles. Of course, many battles last for a much shorter time.

Thanks for clearing things up, LB! :) Seems things are pretty much the way I thought they were. I wanted to use some of Theodore Kittelsen's works for my Vikings project. I'm a big fan of his work. No-one have better portrayed the creatures of Scandinavian folklore and mythology (IMHO)...

I ran my players through a kobold dungeon when they were lvl 18-19; not epic yet, but close. It was great fun, mainly because it took the playrs so completely by surprise. For one thing, I hardly ever use dungeon crawls. Secondly, they certainly didn't expect to be fighting kobolds at there...

I was hoping somebody here could enlightened me a little on the topic of public domain images. What does it take for a picture to gain that status, and how freely can one use these images? Can they be used only for non-profit purposes, or can paintings by the old masters be used as illustrations...

Interesting thread, except for the flaming. I'm in the final stages of writing on my first PDF book (see sig.), and I've been worrying if it has grown too long. The first Vikings D20 book, Midgard, is looking to be roughly 200 pages. Is it too much? What is the going price on a PDF that size...

Got to be Bluff, if I have to pick one. Sense Motive, Diplomacy and Tumble are great too. I like characters who can talk all four legs of an Arthurian mega-donkey (or whatever it was called... :p ). Tumble is a life-saver when things get physical, though.

8th level for me, and that was with my very first character. Pathetic, isn't it? :( As I've just explained over in the DM or Player thread, the problem is that the lazy DMs I've played with can't seem to get their campaigns to last more than 3 sessions. In other words, I'm the DM most of the time.
