    Lost a fun player

Sorry about your loss, ProtoClone. :( You're doing well to treasure the memories like you do, though.

    Against the Jotuns

It's not my description, its Snorres! ;) I just trimmed it down a little...

    Dumbest/funniest deaths

I was DMing a party of newbie players once. They were wading through an Everglades-like swamp (because they were too cheap to spend gp on a boat! ), and were attacked by an alligator. Thanks to an incredible series of unlucky rolls from the PCs, the rogue died and the ranger survived...

    Against the Jotuns

There is but one known route into Niflheim, and that is described in great detail by Snorre. It is the route that Hermod followed when he rode from Asgard to Helheim, to ask Hel to give back Balder. He starts by going in to a cave under the Gnipahellir (a protruding cliff high on a mountain in...

    Against the Jotuns

Svartalfar (lit. black elves) and drow were originally the same creatures; drow is the celtic name for svartalfar (aka dokkalfar; which means "dark elves"). They were much shorter than humans, though; they looked more like skinny dwarves with black skin and hair. Odin sacrificed his eye to...

    OotS #413 is up

"I don't want anyone trying to be a PC out there" is a great line! But the last panel was good too.

Zombie Plagues in your Campaign Setting

In my homebrew world, those zombies wouldn't get far unless they had some serious turn resistance. In a more low-magic setting a Dawn of the Dead-like campaign could be a lot of fun though! :D

    Vikings D20

There's enormous amounts of source to choose from, certainly. Which is part of the reason this has taken so much longer than I anticipated; there's no way I can use it all, so I have to pick and choose what to work in and what to leave out. After some serious trimming, the book is now only 2.5...

does CN get a bad rap?

I never use published adventures, so this kinda surprised me. Maybe the designers make the villains neutral to make battles last longer? Eliminating Smite Evil and other anti-evil spells and effects that could otherwise have brought the villain down a lot quicker...

    What is your icon?

Mine's a sakko die. A Viking d4, in other words. It's also the logo of my publishing company, Sakko Games. Which has published exactly zero books so far. :p

    Staple Fantasy Races

Humans, elves, dwarves, goblins and various giants (trolls and ogres in particular) - definitely! Orcs - probably. And also probably "the small humanoid", whether they're called hobbit, halfling, gnome or something else.

    Piratecat ruined my D&D game

That's got much more of a Viking feel to it, yes. So you see why I want to keep those rules I mentioned out of the book; they don't really fit, IMO. On the other hand, i can see how some DMs might want to include them to keep their campaigns a little less deadly. Which is why I think posting...

    Piratecat ruined my D&D game

Something just struck me! I have actually made a few rules for bringing back dead characters, without casting Raise Dead. intended for my Vikings D20 game (see sig.). In Vikings games, Raise Dead is a 9th level spell, so I thought it would be a good idea to have a couple of alternatives that...

    Piratecat ruined my D&D game

In my heart I agree with you, and at first I was very restrictive on all raise/ressurrection effects in my campaigns. In time though, I decided to ease up a little to maintain PC consistency. This worked so well (for our group, at least), that I eventually became quite the liberal and now I just...

    Piratecat ruined my D&D game

I've found that the simplest way to ensure PC consistency; while simultaneously maintaining a let-the-dice-fall-as they will DMing style, is the Raise Dead spell. If the PCs aren't high enough level to cast it themselves; I make sure they have higher-level allies who can, or place a scroll of...

Well, if everyone agrees with Fenris, then I'm pretty mcuh done. *phew!* :D You here that Le? ;)

    OotS 406

Yes, but whether or not Shojo could be considered a legitimate authority at the time is questionable. Miko certainly didn't think so. Myself, I think he was. Even if he wasn't though, Miko setting abandoning the laws and killing him like that is enough for her to loose her paladinhood IMHO.

    What have you played?

Since I mostly DM, I havn't played any of those classes. But I've run important NPCs with levels in some of them.

    Vikings D20

Thanks Fenris, I think I needed that. :heh: The book is largely completed, I'm done with all the mechanical stuff and what I think of as the "game stuff". All the material on classes, spells, feats, monsters, skill uses, equipment, etc. is finished. The chapters on religion and cosmology are...
