Preparing to start a M&M campaign...

Nitpick: it's hero points, not action points. "AP" is the abbreviation typically used for Alternate Powers, which you get from the Alternate Power power feat. Don't want anyone new to the game to get confused :)

Swordmage Warding vs. Armor of Faith

It would cost 3 feats to pick up Light Shield Proficiency, Heavy Shield Proficiency, and Shield Specialization. That gives +1 AC and +3 Reflex. With the number of powerful feats currently available, that's not a great return on investment unless you've taken many other defense-boosting feats...

    Expertise

There is a thread in the house rules forum with a lot of discussion of these issues: http://www.enworld.org/forum/4e-fan-creations-house-rules/253894-alternatives-feat-tax-solution-hit-f-r-w-defenses.html

House Rules: If I show you mine, will you show me yours?

OK, this is rather confusing. You said: To which I responded, referring to the fact (though I didn't spell this out explicitly) that there's no such condition as Paralyzed To which you said Unless you thought I was asking if you meant "Immobilized" where you said "Dazed." If that's the...

House Rules: If I show you mine, will you show me yours?

Sorry, I misread. I don't see anything that requires a Wizard to use his Orb power immediately when he hits an opponent with an attack, though. So unless you also require the wizard to use the orb immediately on a successful attack, or not at all, this implementation won't really work. Daze...

House Rules: If I show you mine, will you show me yours?

Do you mean Immobilized? I'd say that Stunned, Dominated, Unconscious (Sleep), and Petrified all qualify as removing all actions. Against monsters without a ranged attack, Immobilized and Restrained can be similar to stunning. This change seems strange in that an unsuspecting player can...

Warriors & Warlocks out on PDF!

I just did a post on my roll call thread about this. I ran a simulation for "how many attacks does it take to KO the defender" in the most basic combat scenario you could have in the game, and plotted how many attacks it took (since a character will be getting 1 attack a round, this is...

Preparing to start a M&M campaign...

M&M is a great game. There's lots of useful stuff at The Atomic Think Tank, the official forums. My Roll Call thread there has two detailed character creation examples, which should be helpful in learning the character creation system: Minotaur, a powerhouse, and the Martial Artist archetype...

House Rules: If I show you mine, will you show me yours?

I don't think Halflings are a good enough race to have 5 speed without becoming underpowered. Have you found them to be on the strong side, or is this just aesthetic? If it's for aesthetic reasons, I'd probably give them a benefit to make up for it (maybe a +2 or +4 racial bonus to...

Alternatives to the feat-tax solution to to-hit and F/R/W defenses

Monsters in the MM tend to be short on damage even compared to the recommended damage guidelines on page 184 in the DMG. I believe someone said that at levels 25+ it was on average 7 damage short of the DMG's recommendations for at-will damage. Edit- looking through some MM epic monsters, they...

How many hits should it take to drop a monster?

Assuming you're not changing the PCs, half hit points for monsters and not changing monster damage much at low levels (your first two proposals above) is going to make low levels much easier than they are now.

House Rules: If I show you mine, will you show me yours?

As mentioned, both of these benefits seem rather large. For the former, adding 10 seems more reasonable. For the latter, auto-success after you fail a save seems too strong. Spend an action point for an auto-success before you roll a save seems reasonable. So would spend an action point for...

House Rules: If I show you mine, will you show me yours?

Instead of giving Expertise feats for free you could simply give characters +1 to hit at levels 5/15/25 (and disallow the Expertise feats, of course). Then you wouldn't have to worry about affecting some characters (weapon + implement users) more than others, or adversely affecting improvised...

    Tempest Fighter or Melee Ranger?

You need 15 Con for Plate Proficiency. So you'd either want to drop Dex to 14 or Wis to 13 if you were doing the build this way. Dual Strike is an incredible at will, particularly if you take advantage of Adventurer's Vault's overpowered damage-boosting items. Funneling Fury (level 1) and...

Swordmage Warding vs. Armor of Faith

Sorry, I meant the Improved Armor of Faith feat that adds up to +3 AC at epic tier, not Armor of Faith itself. I agree Armor of Faith shouldn't be limited to Cloth Armor. I misread the original post.

    Tempest Fighter or Melee Ranger?

It's still too low on 22 point buy :) Start at 18, 14, 13, 10, 14, 8, then you can get, say, 19, 16, 10, 14, 8 rather than what you have listed. Edit- that was just one example- I'd recommend 20 Str and 15 Con instead of 19/16.
  17. E

    Tempest Fighter or Melee Ranger?

Too low! With 24 points, you can start with 18, 15, 13, 10, 14, 8. So you can be up to 20, 16, 14, 10, 14, 8 by now. You should get a Masterwork Plate Armor, Layered Plate, for an additional +1 AC bonus (pg 199, PH II)

    Tempest Fighter or Melee Ranger?

There's no reason you can't have a Battlerager or Tempest in Plate. You just won't get the feature's bonus damage when doing so. Agreed. There are few times when I could see a "DM striker" working well. I could see some justification for "DM leader" if you have a group without a leader...

D&D 4E Running player commentary on PCat's 4E Campaign - Heroic tier (finished)

There's a somewhat more constructive thread in House Rules where people discuss house rules to address the scaling issues without the need for (and with the presumed banning of) these feats...

Why do dragons do so little damage?

Indeed :) 2d8+6 averages 15, so the Dire Bear averages 30 damage if both claws hit.
