The Red Dragon's Interview is up!

I love the troll part. It reminds me of a number of posts that I've seen here.

    Has anybody else noticed...

I only DMed a bit of 3.5, and those were modules. I hated it. I never cared to read about some of that crap, so I didn't. Heck, I haven't even read the combat sections in the 4th edition books, but I've been having a blast DMing it. You're right. It simplified and awesomefied everything.

D&D 4E What levels have you played at in 4E?

I was in a game where the DM wanted to grind us through. 30 combats, ending with Orcus. We made it to level 7. It was a lot of fun, but things definitely didn't go the way that he expected them to. He originally thought that they would take 5 or 10 minutes per combat. I laughed at him. I started...

    Item magic creation rules?

I thought that you just used the rules in the book for the Enchant ritual? Or are you talking about the creation of magic items that aren't printed in books?

    Cheating cheaters

Cheating isn't a playstyle. If the ideas that some have mentioned were applied equally to everything... Hell on Earth? Can you sit at a smaller table? Can she roll towards the center? I don't trust people who don't let you see their dice. I hate DM screens. I don't use them. I don't fudge. If I...

    Dragon Crunch Index

Wow. I've looked at it all, but I didn't think that it was that much stuff. Crazy. Really, though, how much of that is preview stuff? If you just take into account the brand new stuff that won't be out in a book, what do you come up with? I'm sure a smaller list, but still full of awesome.

    Gaming Pride / Gaming Shame

I'm a young high school teacher. German and English. I usually start the year off with info about myself, including that I'm a gamer. I don't know if I've mentioned it to this year's first level class, but just about everything about me comes out eventually. Including that I like Enya. That...

whole-class retraining: bringing the conversion experience to multiclassing

Here's what I told them: In the beginning, you have a class. As time goes on, you start taking multiclass feats. If you want to shift ability scores as time goes on, that's fine. At level 10, you can shift over to the new class that you were going for and take multiclass feats of the older...

Paladin house rule - your thoughts?

What's his concept? Is it possible for him to be a Cleric who calls himself a Paladin? Or is this one of those, "My player is playing a Paladin who fights with knives because his concept is a paladin who fights with knives." things?

    Let's talk about minions...

I've used minions a few times now. Yes, my players feel heroic when they get to describe staring down other powerhouses while bashing the guys in their way to get to said powerhouse. They enjoy breathing gas and causing the faces of some foes to melt away. My players love minions.

    Bugbears as PCs balanced??

I disagree. Bugbears are noble warriors who are known for their ability to whittle. Gnomes, on the other hand... See what I did there? I changed the flavor for my game. Are Bugbears in the back of the MM? Yes. So are Warforged, Gnomes, and Shifters. Are those automatically evil? What about in...

    New Excerpt: Battle standards.

I only got to glance at them, but I could tell that I liked them. My players get to scope a dragon's horde tomorrow night. This, as well as stuff from some of the other recent excerpts, will definitely be showing up. I don't see cost as that much of an issue. More than just gold cost, there's...

    Let's talk about minions...

I'm fairly certain that Scribble just won this thread with the best explanation of hit points and general character/monster ability that I have ever seen. It is, for lack of a better word, perfect.

    Let's talk about minions...

Irda, I was being facetious. I asked if guards roll Perception before PCs ever enter into it. Your example uses the guards after the PCs are a part of it. In that case, it definitely makes sense to roll for the guards. They might become a part of the action. Rolling before PCs are ever on the...

    Let's talk about minions...

In regards to the Legion Devil: You probably wouldn't be using him. If you really wanted to, though, you'd have to look in the DMG and do a couple of quick alterations to his abilities. If it's not meant to be used as a normal creature, you have to make some changes.

    Let's talk about minions...

The answer to "What doesn't he understand?" In my view, bringing up questions like "What if two minions are fighting?" as more than a goofy question shows a lack of understanding. There have been a number of posts by other people in here with similar ideas to this. In my book, they don't get it...

    Let's talk about minions...

Rodrigo, I wasn't talking about people who disagree with minions. I said that I don't understand how some people don't understand minions. Wyrmshadows post is an example. While he might disagree, his post tells me that he doesn't understand minions.

    Let's talk about minions...

I love minions. You hit the nail on the head. They're normal monsters that just happen to be less effective against PCs. Why? Because it's a game. Why do so many people fall so quickly in action movies? Because it's a movie. Minions are great fillers. The philosophy behind 4e is rather...

    Bugbears as PCs balanced??

Make sure that he knows that, though. He has to know that that sort of prejudice will be there. If I asked a DM to play a race and he just said, "Sure. Not a problem." but then started hounding on me, I'd be pretty pissed. That would be ridiculous. If he alerted me to the fact that that race...

    Games that survived first contact...

I played in a Savage Worlds Deadlands game. I used a pre-made Gambler. I thoroughly enjoyed that game. The system was nifty, but my favorite part was the ability to basically play cards against the devil to temporarily gain more power. I used that ability constantly. Sometimes it worked out and...
