    Do powers reduce combat originality?

We've had a lot of moment and some fun descriptors. I have new players, so it will take a bit for them to get into the swing of things. You might want to consider giving them stunting bonuses. They can describe what they want to do, make some rolls, then do that. Do let the stunting get in the...

    Games that survived first contact...

There's a thread called "Games that didn't survive first contact...". There are, of course, a number of games mentioned that sound horrible in the context of the thread. I thought that I would start this as a way to "defend" some of these games, or just generally recommend a system that people...

    Farewell to thee D&D

You see D&D as a trollop. I see your relationship like this: you find a beautiful woman who was willing to be with you. She had a little bit of work done, looked even better, and you got scared and left her without really thinking about the work she had done. You then proceeded to trash talk her...

Warlock Feat:2nd Pact. Does it work?

There's a new Warlock article up that gives a bunch of information on Star Pact Warlocks. It also includes a feat for a second Pact.

    Mearls: Druid a Striker/Controller (maybe?)

STR and CON are obvious for the Barbarian, but what about the third ability? Would it be WIS, because they're nature-focused, or CHA, so that they can have powers that deal with intimidation, demoralization, and fear? INT is definitely not it, and I highly doubt that they'd make it DEX. Every...

    Mearls: Druid a Striker/Controller (maybe?)

I've never seen the Barbarian as a Defender. He gets more hit points, but that's to make up for the fact that he probably has a crappy AC. Any time your key ability "Flip out and kill everything you see", you're probably a striker.

    Cleric without a clergy

A different spin: Check out the Indie RPG "Dogs in the Vineyard". Basically, the players are God's Watchdogs. They go through the area fixing things and bringing people back to the path of righteousness. It's a ton of fun. The interesting thing, though, is that the religion that you spread and...

    Clarification: Encounter and Daily Powers

If you want "non-gamism" or whatever the hell that it would be called, you can say that there are certain things that use some innate magical power that everything has. As your character gains in power, he becomes more intune with power of the world. As such, items react to him differently. That...

    Only Five Races in PHB2?

Destrachan? Seriously, though, I like Deva. It seems to fit. They took the Eladrin and turned them into an Elven race. Why not take the Deva and turn it into an Angelic race?

Avatar: The Last Airbender - Bending styles as classes?

Has anyone looked at the Swordsage preview? It looks like that class is going to be full of useful things. You should even be able to extrapolate out even more abilities based on what's given. I'd also recommend looking at the Genasi races for each type of bender. Just reflavor them so that they...

    Indiana- South Bend area

I'm looking for a couple of players for a 4th edition game. We play at IUSB from about 6-10, sometimes later. Let me know if you're interested. The next game is this Friday, the 18th.

    Additional Potions

If you want to go this route, make them minor actions that need to be used immediately and cost a healing surge. Then I could see them as balanced.

4E game looking for extra players in South Bend/Mishawaka (IN)

Actually, I will go ahead and ask you if you're interested in an every other Friday night game for a couple of hours. This next Friday is going to be the second game, but it's a good time. Let me know if you're interested.

4E game looking for extra players in South Bend/Mishawaka (IN)

I realized that I'm in enough games as it is. Thank you, though.

4E game looking for extra players in South Bend/Mishawaka (IN)

How often? Is it every Saturday, or every other Saturday? Saturday days or nights? I might be interested.

What about 4th edition made you go AHHHH this is D&D to me.

I recently played in a New World of Darkness game that used the Underdark as a setting. It was ridiculously low magic and had a few races that were created using the NWoD rules. I called it D&D. 3.5 is D&D. It just happens to be a D&D that I no longer enjoy. 4th edition is D&D. It just happens...

    Board-made Artifacts

I decided to check out the Artifact section the other day. I found it to be pretty nifty. I like that there's a Heroic level Artifact. I would like to see more of them. Has anyone tried making Artifacts? If so, please post them in this thread. Any tier is fine. It can also be a great way to get...

    Critting with a Vorpal Weapon?

If it's on a Greataxe, this is what I see happening: 12+STR+6d12+3d12. Basically, you'll roll at least 9 dice. If you got that crit on a normal daily power, another 6d12 if you're a Fighter using "No Mercy". Not bad... It almost makes it seem like the abilitiy would be better on a Maul. THEN...

So what's the speed of character growth, real time

And that STILL feels like a long time to me. Then again, I've never really been in a long running campaign for more than a few months, even if it was really good. And once a week!? Not since college. I'm hoping to start an every other week this Friday. Following the formula just put down, that's...

    Race for a Factotum

While not a race, they have put stuff up for the Factotum on the Wizards website. There's a feat that gives an extra Inspiration point each time it's taken, and it increases by 1 each time. First time is 1 point, second time is 2, etc... Be a human. Burn every feat on that one. You'll seriously...
