    (Un)lucky rolls and accidental comedy

Wouldn't the character have to want to come back from the dead? "Would you like to live again?" "Well... I've died 5 times. I keep getting weaker. Nothing goes right for me. I'm currently surrounded by attractive females and can explore the elements at my leisure." "No, then. Gotcha."

    Detect Magic is Dead

The game isn't like it once was. A Fighter can gain a ritual to strip the magic from an item and put it onto another one. I have a desire to play a Fighter with the Wizard or Warlock multiclass feat who uses some of his extra items to improve his family (insert whatever weapon turns out to do...

    DDM Dragonborn can fly?

It might be like the Deathjump Spider. That gives you the ability to "fly" 6 squares that round and end on an enemy. The Dragonborn will probably "fly" a bit and then need to end somewhere. Super Jump with Featherfall. It's probably why Dragonborn feats have said "Dragonborn, Dragonborn breath...

    (Un)lucky rolls and accidental comedy

These are pretty good so far. I was in a Ptolus game last year. I was some sort of Lion race from Arcana Evolved (or one of those other types of books) Warblade. Tim was the same race, but a Crusader. We were built for pain. The DM was using fumble tables. On a 1, he rolled to see what happened...

How're we supposed to divvy the loot?

We usually just make sure that there's obviously something for everyone and go from there. That will probably need to be different for the new edition. I'll figure it out as time goes on. There's only really been one time where I voiced- in character- opposition to someone getting their share of...

    Excerpt: Economies [merged]

Maybe people who want their NPCs to work just like their PCs should... dare I say it? (Dare! Dare!) stick with 3.5. How do floating cities happen in D&D? I've never seen the spell. "Well. Someone made it at some point. Powerful artifact. Stuff." Ok. So the PCs can do the same? I like separating...

How're we supposed to divvy the loot?

For the record, I actually like gizmo33's idea. Not in exactly that way of course, but as a concept. I think that's actually what the Disenchant and Enchant Rituals are going to do. "Residuum" will be those "stuff points". And I'm fine with that.

    D&D 4E [Eberron] Dragonmarks in 4E

Aren't Dragonmarks supposed to be inherently weaker feats, though? They offer little mechanically, but they increase your social standing and give you certain options that you wouldn't otherwise have. Other than that, though, I hope that this is the direction that they take in 4E.

    (Un)lucky rolls and accidental comedy

It's been a while since I've read a good story on here that didn't involve creepy/scary players. I thought that I would start this to get some fun stories going. When have you had something humorous happen from a die roll that wasn't planned? Example- I was running an Eberron module with some...

    Excerpt: Economies [merged]

If I'm in a game where someone starts hoarding to sell and becomes a pain, I'm going to call him on it. I've gotten to the point where I see my future 10th level character trading magic items to cities for certain things (maybe even magic items), or saving the local missing kid and giving him a...

    Excerpt: Economies [merged]

A recent 3.5 game was RttToEE. I had some of the most fun actually playing out what we did with all of the money and crap we found. Silver tea sets and quality brandy got us in great with the local shopkeeper. I like stuff like that. I love magic items, so I'm looking forward to seeing how I'm...

D&D 4E 4E Definition of Hit Points & FIghting to Subdue

If we take HP to be purely abstract, it still works. 2 people are fighting for a long time. Neither has been hit, but they've each lost a lot of HP. At the very end, one of them gets lucky and knocks the other unconscious with a blow to the head. Basically, the guy had 10 HP and took 15 subdual...

Epic quests that don't involve saving the world?

Remember that it isn't JUST immortality in the sense of never dieing. It's also "Immortality" like Hercules and Beowulf to us. Their legend lives on to today. Look at the 3.5 Epic Destinies article. Some of those end with you becoming a Legend. Or your spirit giving power to the future. It isn't...

    IMPORTANT! Posting WotC articles wholesale...

Or it could be that people take a long time to change. In a few weeks, it won't be allowed at all. If they just said, "No more." people would continue to do it. By stopping it now, the posts will gradually slow until nobody is doing it.

    Keep on the Shadowfell Question

I just don't worry about XP. I just say, "Level." I'll probably use XP in 4E to judge encounters, but not necessarily to level the party.

    D&D 4E Point buy, 4e & you.

I prefer rolling. Recently, though, we've just been doing large numbers as a group or having the DM roll the stats that we all get. The most recent game is 18, 17, 15, 14, 13, 12. When I eventually DM 4E, I'll probably allow rolling. If I ever do point buy, it will be with the old chart (if...

    Daily Art Preview

He's talking about the actual art itself. It's obviously a painting of something, instead of being done so well that it actually looks like the thing. He's commenting on the art as the medium, not the manticore.

    Daily Art Preview

Actually, I like a lot of the other art. Today's Manticore, though, looks like crap. Could I do better? No. Should a professional artist do better? Absolutely.

    Feat progrression

This looks good. I will point out that it makes those multiclassing feats quite a bit better. Feats are supposed to provide a small bonus in 4E. A lot of people have been complaining that it's "wasting" a feat. In 3.5, that actually meant something. In 4E, though, feats are toned down, increased...

Dimishing Return within Roles and Multiclassing

I wanted to attempt to clarify something that I've seen. When it comes to Ari's quote, he basically says that the powers are equal for their level and according to who should have them, but that doesn't directly translate to being equal for another class. I think that a lot of people are skewing...
