    Few ideas for rules.

You want gritty and "realistic", but do your players? Ask them. Present these ideas to them. If they like them and you like them, feel free to use them. Personally, I would refuse. I might be willing to discuss a couple of points, but a DM who said, "This is what we're doing." would get a "Ne!"...

Convince me to let my players use these items.

I'm playing a Warforged Battlerage Vigor Fighter with a Bloodclaw Executioner's Axe. I'm good. Tracking the temporary hit points are pretty easy. Then again, I'm not an idiot. It's basic math. I'm also nowhere near indestructible. Against minions, sure, but we don't JUST fight minions. In terms...

Photos of the new Gnome (PHB2)

Actually, they look like tiny Elves with goofier ears. I stopped for a second when I saw that they speak Elven. I still hate small races, though. Then again, it would be funny to play one as a badass and tear through things.

    New Necromantic powers

There's an article today with quite a few Necromantic powers for some of the classes. I'm surprised that I haven't seen anything about it. I'm at work, so I don't have access to it at the moment, but I thought that this might be a good chance for some of the people who do have access to make...

    2 player advice

I'm sensing a pattern. I have also DMed for 2 guys. One played an Elf Dark Pact Warlock with a lot of Infernal stuff (he was infernal before the FRPG came out). He also had a Spellscar. The other guy was a Dragonborn Avenging Paladin of Bahamut. I gave him a bit of Barbarian. Survival was never...

    Murder in D&D...

There are limits on Raise Dead, plus some basic assumptions of the world throw off your idea. For PCs, you would be correct. Raise Dead- The ritual mentions that only someone with a destiny could still be raised. Most people don't have a destiny. Po' People- Most people are poor. Really poor...

Rant -- GM Control, Taking it Too Far?

I have two main groups. We understand the game. The DM will usually give a few little ideas on what we're doing, and he'll let us know what's not allowed. The default assumption in all of our games, though, is that everything in the books is allowed, and the players can change the ideas of the...

Is it legal? is it allowed?

If the ally allowed it, I would probably have it be an automatic hit and, quite possibly, crit. Then again, I'd probably also have it backfire because it's not the purpose of the power. Gods don't give a Paladin power to smite a foe just so that the Paladins can hit their allies.

Dragon 372 - Ampersand: Summoning, Arcane Power Preview, and Mordain the Fleshweaver

I used him in a game as a demigod. He was a Wizard who had become too powerful and had started to experiment on everything in a large area. I used the Forest of Flesh article. There were Doppelgangers in the area who were searching for artifacts which would bring back their deity, Mordain the...

    Non-Munchkin Epic

Interesting fact: This post was made over 3 and a half years ago. I thought that something was a little off when he didn't clarify 3.5 or 4e epic. On topic: I hate ineffective characters. I consider them a waste of time. I don't want to play one, and I HATE when other people make them. It's...

    D&D 4E 4e Constitution - what a waste of time !

Healing Surges are your true hit point value. There's a difference between a Fighter with a Con of 13 and a Fighter with a Con of 14. That difference is about 7 hit points. 1 for the Con, and 6 more for the Healing Surge value. When you're talking about an entire party with difference makeups...

D&D 3.x 3e style templates in 4e, how to do it?

Why not just take base races and reflavor them? The Flameborn sounds like a Firesoul Genasi to me. With the tiniest bit of tinkering, it will do what you want it to do. Give each Genasi type a slightly different bonus and you should be good.

    Minion House Rules

I honestly can't understand the problem with minions. The only reason that they go from perfect to dead is that the hero got in a lucky shot. He shoved a sword through the neck. He turned his magic missle into a dagger and hit the orc through the forehead for an instant kill. Then again, we...

Forked Thread: Preview: The Shaman, the first broken class.

Nearly everything is broken if you remove it from the confines of game that includes multiple people. If my group had a Shaman who said, "Hey guys. Don't worry about this. I'm going to hide over there and just let my spirit companion tear those goblins to pieces" my response, both in character...

    Worst 4th Ed Class

I don't get why people say that the Battlerage Vigor Fighter is broken and unfun, let alone a bookkeeping nightmare. I've found that it's incredibly easy to keep track of temporary hit points, and it has some fun abilities. As it is, I don't recognize any of the classes as below-par. There are a...

D&D 3.x 3e style templates in 4e, how to do it?

The new Bloodline feats are definitely the way to go. As it is, we've only seen the Dhampyr done this way, but it opens up a world of possibility. Can you give us some examples of the types of races you're talking about?

    Swordmage stacking fire damage.

It says extra damage, so I would think that they would stack. If it worked with other sorts of elemental damage, why not work with fire? If it had just said that you do fire damage, I would've needed to think about it more. As it is, though, it says EXTRA fire damage. It seems pretty clear to me.

Does Dragon Magic Sorcerer = Trap?

Am I the only one who thought that was absolutely hilarious? Honestly, I laugh every time I see that used on these boards.

Forked Thread: DMs - No one cares how long you worked (was: Rant -- GM Control...)

Rolflyn, you aren't one of my players, are you? I had a Dragonborn in my game named Fluffy. At one point, a friend played one, too. He was named Puffy. Fantasy names a ridiculous to begin with. How does Fluffy seem more ridiculous than Lord Finibrek?
