The New D&D Adventure Storyline Will Be Announced On June 2nd-3rd

I think that I see it more like Comics. At the moment they're focusing heavily on Metropolis, doing Superman stories and Supergirl stories and the like. Metropolis is a useful place, it's got name recognition and a nice pairing of generic vibe with highly specific flavour when you drill deep...

    D&D 5E (2014) Mike Mearls' AMA Summary

Thanks for collating this! It's a fun read. I definitely got the sense of a designer who was really happy with the game, and liked the way that it plays, but who admits to a desire to change some stuff around the margins. I don't think that we should see anything here as indicative of a future...

    D&D 5E (2014) Best of the 5e Forum

Oh hey, nice idea. I've long thought that we needed a central list of threads for all of the specific AP threads; that never happened, but this way users can easily navigate to the central thread for each one ("practical ideas at the table", usually) and hey presto. Also, thanks for linking my...

D&D 5E (2014) 538 covers Vin Diesel and Dungeons and Dragons

Extremely interesting read, thanks! It made me think about the often-noted way that D&D campaigns tend to be a series of random things that happens to the characters until it comes to a sudden end.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Class Design Criticism

I've been waiting, and I've still heard nothing to suggest an answer to my question, just lots of random wishlisting.

D&D 5E (2014) What do we want? Grognardhawk! When do we want it? Mearls!

I've done a bit of satire myself on these boards. If you truly think that I didn't understand this thread was satire, well, you clearly think that I didn't understand that this thread was satire. Oh well.

D&D 5E (2014) What do we want? Grognardhawk! When do we want it? Mearls!

Honest to god, the more I hear Greyhawk fans talk about why they like the setting, the less I want it to be updated...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Class Design Criticism

I'm not seeing the truth in the premise. Can you provide concrete examples of high level abilities that are fundamental and required for character concepts?

D&D 5E (2014) Anyone else think the Bard concept is just silly?

I love just how un-Greek Orpheus looks here. Dude's paler than a sheet!

    D&D 5E (2014) Which Greyhawk?

Er, other than virtually the entirety of the Sword Coast and the north, i.e. the bits they've focused on this edition?

D&D 5E (2014) How do players know they are in the "wrong" location in a sandbox campaign?

Absolutely agree - having run it, I would definitely break up the megadungeon myself. I'd probably just move different parts of it to separate locations in the Valley - that way encouraging more of a wandering sandbox feel. Even if you only reveal the next 'stage' of dungens when you want, the...

D&D 5E (2014) How do players know they are in the "wrong" location in a sandbox campaign?

I think that a lot of the advice here is generic. Bear in mind that, in this specific instance, there are stairways leading directly from level 4 dungeons to level 9 dungeons. There isn't much scope for NPCs giving warnings and the like.

D&D 5E (2014) How do players know they are in the "wrong" location in a sandbox campaign?

Hey! As Lanefan above notes, the first thing to observe is that Princes is not that sandboxy. It would be more accurately described as a megadungeon split into many parts; there are thirteen dungeons (Air, Earth, Water, Fire each x3, Fane) and a plot that moves the party into first interacting...

    D&D 5E (2014) Which Greyhawk?

Really, now, come on. I've been following the recent spate of Greyhawk chat with interest - not least because I regard Greyhawk as a dull setting only popular thanks to Gygax's influence, and I wanted to see whether anything would dissuade me of that notion. This article puts me off the setting...

D&D 5E (2014) Mike Mearls interview - states that they may be getting off of the 2 AP/year train.

He's suggesting a big book adventure, perhaos with a ten page pdf supplement to accompany it.

D&D 5E (2014) What is your favorite adventure in Tales from the Yawning Portal (besides Tomb of Horrors)?

I didn't vote; I've only read Sunless Citadel so far. However, my suspicion is that the Doomvault is the most impressive one - the biggest, the one with the most art - and so that helps. In addition, it is comprised of multiple areas, which seem easy to steal for one or two session mini-dungeons...

    D&D 5E (2014) I Ran the Yawning Portal's Tomb of Horrors

It certainly seems like a possibility. I think also that it struck them as the lowest-effort way to appease two separate camps: 1) Those who wanted old-school vibes 2) Those who wanted shorter adventures There is probably a fair amount of overlap between these two groups as well. I also...

D&D 5E (2014) Anyone else think the Bard concept is just silly?

Dear god man, do you have to post eighteen times in a row and say LOL every sentence? Also: you're wrong. The bard is awesome, and so is the barbarian, and you should aspire to play a BardBarian multiclass.
